Canada is a country that is known for opportunities and acceptance. Being Canadian mean many things and it makes me proud of what our nation have become. Canada is very accepting of sexes, races and religion. We respect others, as we appreciate the different cultures and even celebrating them, we also acknowledge the LBGTQ community. This is important to me, considering that Canada is a place where people can feel safe in their own skin and that everyone is being respectful to one another. Canada is a safe place to be living for the reason that we are known for peacekeepers, for instance Canada is allowing Syrian Refugees to become a Canadian resident because of the ongoing hardships. We promote peace and unity, more than we do violence. Another
What does it mean to be Canadian? Many people, from our politicians to our greatest literary masters have pondered this question. The answer will likely vary from person to person, however in my opinion, being a Canadian means having the freedom to be who you are without fear. We are not a country torn by war, we have freedom of religion and a diversity rate that equals no other with one out of every five Canadians being foreign born. In the past, being Canadian merely referred to living in Canada or having been born in Canada. Over time this definition has changed. We are a highly inclusive, peaceful nation and therefore have little to no strife with other countries. Being a Canadian also means being open minded and respectful. I am proud
I am proud to be Canadian. I really am. No one can take that away from me. Canada is a unique country that provides many things to its citizens. There is a sense of unity, a sense of security, and most of us have a distinct sense of national identity. We have fresh air and clean land, and we are a free country, where we can speak our minds without fear. Many Provincial and National parks have been put in place to help preserve all of the natural land Canada has, and our country hasn’t been completely urbanized so we are a very clean country, with many freshwater lakes and Oceans on both borders. Canada has a very diverse amount of animals, and plants. Such as the caribou and moose, as well as deer and geese. Canadians have access to free, high
Canada is a nation built on immigration, and as the world becomes an ever increasingly hostile place more and more have chosen to try and make Canada their home. This melting pot of different cultures has created an overall atmosphere of acceptance, and is teaching younger generations a sense of community, empathy, and togetherness. Sharing our space and learning to grow with different ethnicities has perpetuated our status as a friendly, caring, and loyal nation, that many are willing to risk everything for in exchange for becoming a part of it.
The great war was a big influential period for canada, a lot of things happened that affected canada in a positive way, without these monumental experiences it is very possible that canada would be different today in many ways. World war one will forever be a defining moment in canada's history but not just for canadians but for everyone who was affected directly by the war. Following our very important involvement in the war , canada economy improved, canadian women were granted more right and canada was seen and feared as a strong independent country.
To me, being a Canadian means that you will stand by your country, and hold it strong well you are at war. It means that you will not give up your home and native land. We might have been a British colony for centuries, but we embrace that. We love our heritage and I would not even try to change who I am. For Canada is my life. Canada is not just a country, it is a home, a refugee, and an enemy. In this essay I will show to you the way that Canada is a home, a refugee and an enemy.
Today, Canada is the second best country in the world according to the Washington Post. But what’s so appealing about Canada? Canada has their own government, they promote gender equality and have equal right towards every race. But Canada was not always the great country that it is today. Canadians worked hard to accomplish independence and recognition. Historical events that helped shape the way Canada it is today are, the battle of Vimy Ridge, the Balfour Report and Statute of Westminster, the Persons Case, the formation of NATO, and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom. These are the events that helped Canada grow as a nation to become a peaceful, independent, and a just country.
Canada is a nation made up of many people and events that help illustrate an image of what people think of us. Canada is a country with over 130 years of history so it can be difficult to choose which specific moments define it and a variety of different themes to choose from. I know that The Battle of Passchendaele was a very important occasion that helped establish Canadian Military Achievement. Women’s Rights have been fought for many years and are still being fought for in Canada I think Flappers helped boost this issue. English-French relations have been very tense in the past, the FLQ Crisis played a major role in this theme. With the Syrian Crisis happening many Syrians need to leave their country in order to be safe, Canada is one of the countries which are letting in refugees with 25,000 entering through 2015-16 this helps establish Canada’s Role on the International stage. I believe that these events are the most important ones that have occurred and I will be discussing them in further detail in this report.
Every community in Canada, whether it is large or small, is a gold mine of diversity, tradition, culture and much history. It’s the familiarity, knowledge of their heritage, and sense of belonging at school, work, home, or their place of worship, that strengthens their identity or who they are as Canadians. If someone identified as Canadian, it means they are a part of Canada’s society. To be Canadian means freedom. Canadians have the freedom to think for themselves, speak what they believe, and live their life with no limits. Because of this freedom, they have certain character traits and qualities. Simply, Canadians contain a certain Canadian attitude, the recognition of Canadian multiculturalism and prominently, Canadian pride.
Overall the most integral part of Canadian identity is that we are guardians of human rights and promoters of world peace. William Lyon Mackenzie King has contributed to this identity through his efforts in World War 2. He was able to recognize there was a violation of human rights oversea, and took the necessary action to end these violations as shown through his leadership on D-day. A Prime Minister who also exemplified this was Lester B. Pearson. We owe Lester B. Pearson a great debt for cementing the pride filled place peacekeeping holds in any proud Canadian’s hearts through his actions. Our peaceful nation has become associated internationally with safety for those in place where place is sparse. Another major contribution to this identity
Being Canadian means belonging to a Canadian society, where regardless of location, each community is rich with diversity, culture and tradition. When asked what being a Canadian means, a common answer many people choose without hesitation is multiculturalism and with reason. Canada is known globally for its acceptance of worldwide immigrants, its discrimination-free environment and high tolerance of cultures. This type of environment promotes a healthy and violent-free environment where everyone is family, but most importantly, it decreases hatred towards other cultures. Looking back at Canada’s history, it can be easily noted that it was founded upon settling immigrants looking to start a new life. Nowadays, it is not much different as many people around the world flee their
Canada means to me that we as people have freedom. We have peace in this world thanks to Canada and Canada’s armed forces. Being Canadian means a lot to people in Canada because they live and grow up in Canada. Thanks to Canada’s good soil for farmers to farm their crops so that the people whom live in the city can eat bread’s and meat’s and their vegetables, thanks to Canada’s farmers they also can drink milk and cook with milk too. Thanks to Canada’s trees people can build houses and shelters so that they can live in.
Canada has been known by many as country of diverse culture, people move from all over the world to live here. There is certain traditions/objects that are thought of as being Canadian, although that would just be a matter of opinion for the most part. While all
The common question of “What does it mean to be Canadian” is something that this country's greatest leaders, thinkers and writers have wrestled with since our inception. To me being a Canadian means being free. Having the ability to express my opinion and the how i feel without being judged and to stand up for what i believe in and be treated equally. The pleasure of visiting and socializing with your neighbours no matter their race or their beliefs, and to sleep in peace at night knowing that your home will be there in the morning. Being Canadian to me means to be in a community that we are all so diverse but yet connected and able to socialize without fear. Being a citizen one of the most sane, civilized and respected nations in this world
There are a lots of people who have different cultures and background, but this is what makes Canada culturally unique. “we are an example of how people of different nationalities can live together in a harmonious fashion and work together to maintain a country that is a model for global peace” (Nick L). As we know Canada is a country which is wishing peace, and Canada is taking step by step that archiving this goal. Nick has mentioned that we are an example that different cultures’ people can live together and maintain peace. This is one thing that only Canada has in the world.
I am very proud to be a Canadian citizen. I believe that every Canadian should take their role as a citizen very seriously. As a Canadian citizen, you represent your country and that is a tremendous responsibility. Some important information about being a Canadian which I feel every citizen should know includes, Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms, how Canada’s system of government works and the mistakes Canada has made in how they have treated different groups of people in the past.
