• Specific personal intellectual interests within their academic majors.
I chose to major in nuclear engineering here at the Naval Academy. I’m really excited to pursue a career in the field of nuclear engineering and hopefully make advances in the multifaceted field of nuclear engineering and power. Specifically, if given the opportunity, I would like to pursue questions concerning radiation shielding possibly for space applications or materials that could be used to better safeguard against nuclear fallout after an explosion for application in the construction of military vehicles to protect the occupants of the vehicle. I am confident that I will be able to narrow my research to a clearly defined research topic that has real-world application use as I continue studying nuclear engineering.
• Exceptional perseverance, tenacity or “grit” in pursuit of excellence.
*Not sure what to right here other than talking about trying to maintain good grades
• Broad interests and natural curiosity.
While my major at the Academy is nuclear engineering, I would like to broaden my education in such a way that would allow me to focus on more than nuclear engineering and research. I desire to be able to have the opportunity to induce change in nuclear policy. Nuclear policy goes beyond military capabilities and research funding. I believe that it is crucial for better implementation of systems of safety for the civilian sector producing nuclear power in order to
Thesis: The uses of nuclear energy range from being a clean, renewable energy source to cutting edge medical procedures.
I am very much interested in the field of engineering and hope to pursue a career in engineering sometime in the future. Although I haven’t decided which branch of engineering I want to pursue yet, my experiences as an engineering magnet student at Wheaton High school and the different engineering programs I am a part of have ignited within me a passion for engineering.
When I get enrolled to Ole Miss I’m to keep my grades so I can play and
Some of the goals this year is to get good grades on most of the subjects. What I will do to accomplish that is I will listen in class and study for more than one day. Something I’ve done right I want to continue doing is to read a lot of books and writing excellent essays. I also want to do better in Social Studies. I will do this by studying history facts every week.
Another important thing is organization so you don’t lose things and keep important things in the places that they belong. I’ve learned that the hard way! I have spent a lot of time doing homework assignments, then misplaced them and was unable to turn them in. I also didn’t get 100% on my science binder since I couldn’t find some of my assignments and notes. I had a good talk with Mrs. Merolo and Fray about being organized. Mrs. Merolo helped me by giving me a folder where I could put my homework “to do” on one side and things to “turn in” on the other side. Fray taught me how to organize my assignments, quizzes, tests, bell work and notes in my binder, which has helped me to find my things when I need to study for quizzes and tests. I think I will be able to get better grades after this.
Determination is the main behavior I need to adopt in order for me to achieve my goals. I will have to keep my head up even when I make a bad grade. Not only do I need to keep my head up, but also I need to finish things when I start them. Determination will help me get through these next four years without stressing as much. Adopting this behavior will help me succeed
The thought of incorporating personal interests in traditional academic studies is certain to conjure images of an exciting and creative learning environment. These images can leave individuals with a different perception of what true academic structure may be. For American author Gerald Graff, re-developing traditional academic courses to attract personal learning styles is the best way to gain the interest of students and increase their ability to retain knowledge. In contrast, traditional educators argue that learning is best accomplished through academic resources and successfully fulfilling core requirements. By ignoring the complex relationship between personal interest and academic knowledge, traditional educators negatively impact academia by rejecting the opportunity to develop a diverse and creative student population, isolating students that lack academic knowledge and dismissing effective techniques that have educational merit in augmenting critical thinking skills.
always maintain school as my top priority and I will always keep in mind that it's not about the
The essays are related because Graff proposes the argument of academic work can be channeled through personal interests. Peacocke 's essay provides an example of Graff 's argument because she provides a remarkable piece of literature talking about the pros and cons of her favorite show "Family Guy." I really enjoyed how Peacocke used examples from very comical moments in Family Guy like the Business instructional video in the 1950s that had some sexism on how to treat women in the workplace. She showed the negative impacts of the show like the protests of parents, but it was brought back two times after fans pressured Fox into reopening the show. Video games are an interest of mine, which can be intellectual because of how they are made,
Ever since my later adolescence years, I have always been intrigued by the diverse complexity of the human brain. Numerous days I have sat down obtrusively observing my surroundings just to satisfy my curiosity on how individuals think, reason and problem solve everyday life happenings. As such, when it was time to attend university, I decided to study psychology as a means of gaining knowledge and understanding about individuals’ cognitive processes and their behavior. During my undergraduate studies, for a particular reason, I was struck by Abnormal Psychology and spent hours thinking about the various disorders captured by the then Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM IV). I spent an awful lot of time trying to understand the differing disorders and how their impact on the behavior and thinking processes of individuals that are diagnosed with them.
Nuclear engineering, although highly controversial, is a very safe and reliable source of technology that will improve our lives. I am very enthusiastic to be starting college soon and taking the next step towards my chosen career. I have learned the fundamentals of math and science, and now I want to further my education. Within time I will be given the opportunity to apply
My favorite academic subject that has influenced me would be my choral class because in that class it helped me break out of my shell when I wasn’t able to sing or do anything in front a group of people or an audience before. Before I took my choral class I had always had nervous breakdowns I was never able to do anything in front of a class or audience. I never thought that I was able to do the things I do now, I'm not entirely confident but I'm getting there. If I never took that choral class throughout my high school experience, I would've been the girl who never talks to no one and isn't able to present in front of a group person and who isn’t able to make any friends because she isn't able to talk to anyone. As I grew up, my parents always told me to do the things I love so I did and I went for a choral and art class because without those classes I wouldn't be the person I am today.
To achieve good grades in high school a person must be disciplined in their study habits. Once a person reaches high school these habits must be ingrained into the personality of the young person so that they are second nature or it is to late.
Upon reviewing the “Best Strategies for success in school” I realize that I now apply many ideas I use to ignore to my school approach such as getting to know my instructors, breaking down projects into more manageable tasks to avoid procrastination, and staying healthy. All the strategies listed are important but the three key strategies that will remain with me the longest throughout my academic career will be to getting help with difficult class work early, keeping most
College is a competitive environment; in order to succeed in it a student needs certain skills. Those skills can only be learned. A college professor mentioned that there five basic rules that need to be followed in order to become a good student: study, do all the homework and the assigned reading, attend class, and, most importantly, develop self-discipline and time management 1. In the following lines, a detailed analysis of those different steps will be done. So, let’s get started.
