Leadership Application I feel my greatest personal strengths are my intelligence, my honesty, my willingness to serve and my ability to remain focused on the task at hand. As a leader I think these traits are all very helpful. Intelligence and focus keep a leader from getting distracted while also keeping him prepared to fix problems quickly and precisely. That then entails the ability to efficiently solve complex problems or potentially keep the problem from happening altogether. Also, being in a leadership role is about service and putting the needs of others above yours. The ability to remain honest even when it does not benefit you is a good trait for a leader since no one would want to have a leader who lies to them. This is how I plan …show more content…
Hames. Q: What characteristics do you look for in a leader? A: Someone that is well prepared; also someone who is a “work horse” and not a “show horse”. A leader takes the initiative to solve problems and is able perceive problems before others might. Q: What is your definition of leadership? A: Someone that is willing to put their reputation on the line and will work for the benefit of others rather than themselves. Unfortunately in our society we equate pay with leadership and that’s wrong. Because for instance CEO’s get exponential amounts of money but that doesn’t make them a good leader. Like in a combat area the leaders are the ones willing to sacrifice themselves. Like as a Christian with Jesus as the leader lowing himself to the level of a servant. Q: What advice would you give someone going into a leadership role? A: Work hard, be responsible and be prepared for the job. You are better off to view it as an opportunity to serve others rather than build up yourself. It will be much better if you do that. Q: What is a leader’s greatest strength? A: Mainly being a hard worker. Also, being willing to work above and beyond the call of duty whether they are paid or
Being a leader allows you to inspire those around you it allows you to not only grow as a person, but, also allows you to grow as a mentor that can help others become better versions of themselves. An important leadership trait I possess is my emphasis on quality; I’ve never been the type of person that has
People like doctors, therapists, teachers, managers, and boss’s are commonly associated with everyday leaders. But leadership can be shown in many other ways, whether it’s making decisions, helping out, or showing responsibility. It could be as simple as doing the right thing, knowing that people will look up to you and will follow your example. Being a leader doesn’t mean you're more important or better than anyone else, but more that you can be a good influencer
The truth of being a leader is to sacrifice your interests for the benefit of others. A verse I dedicate to myself daily is: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” -Luke 6:31. As a person I strive to be the three rs. Resourceful, reliable, and respected!
There are many admirable traits of leadership, but the three I discussed above are the characteristics by which I desire to live. I want to build strong and genuine relationships, be forward thinking and a role model that others want to follow. I do not believe that a person must be a born leader; rather, I have the view that we can all acquire qualities that will help us grow and develop into leaders. It is human to make mistakes, but if we learn from them, we will be better people, who can make a difference in this world. In the words of Mahatma
However in order to become a greater leader I am willing to accept this learning challenge and list “the great ‘I am’” five times. I am a trustworthy person, I am an excellent listener, I am extremely respectful of other people, I am very encouraging of other people’s ideas and I am a strong believer of do what makes you happy. “From self-knowledge, Lombardi believed, we develop character and integrity” (Kerr, J. 2013), where from “character and integrity comes leadership” (Kerr, J. 2013). So if I continue to appreciate my own personal values then this should start to guide me in the right direction of being a great leader.
In becoming a great leader, a person might have to make hard decisions and take major risks. Taking risks is very important in a leadership role, he might have to take these risks to protect his followers. These risks could put his people in danger. He who is a good leader, will be able to determine what is worth the risk and what is not. If the leader cannot determine if something is worth the risk or danger, he is not worthy of being a leader. Being a leader in itself is a risk many cannot
Being a leader is a hard role to play because leaders have great responsibilities. They have to make choices that could change people’s lives. Being a great leader means that they have to be honest, delegate, have a positive attitude, be creative, be committed, confidence, and have great communication skills.
Most definitions of leadership say general things like “Someone who leads” (Dictionary.com) or “The office or position of a leader” (Merriam-Webster). These simple definitions, because leadership is an abstract term, are expected. The quality of leadership, though, is much more complex than what the definitions make it out to be. A leader more than just someone who stands at the front of the crowd, a real
I want to have the ability to develop others and paint the path for them to become better within themselves and as leaders. Finally, I want to be the type of leader who can put my own views and
What is your definition of leadership? How have you demonstrated leadership? Leadership is the ability to take initiative to implement a vision and being able motivate your team to work towards the same mission, while fully understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each individual and effectively encouraging each person to contribute individually their bests towards the mission of the team.
And to be a good leader I think earning people's respect is important. Fallowing through with commitments I think is a very important trait for a leader. And when helping out with the senior center, being at events to help benefit the senior center was
As Morgan puts it, “leaders are people who make things happen.” Indeed, being a leader means finding ways to accomplish difficult tasks and overcome challenges for teams of people. Importantly, leaders are more independent in their activities and more likely to do what they are truly passionate about. A lack of leadership qualities may result in disengaged, not interesting work. The development of such qualities, in turn, helps one pursue aspirations and put his or her heart into what he or she does. Leaders are people who turn ideas into reality, and this is why I am eager to develop my leadership skills. If I manage to become a good leader, I will be able to address issues effectively in the future and make a difference in my
I feel being a good leader requires having good character. I value being a person whom someone can trust and rely upon. In order to achieve this, I make sure to contribute to projects, uphold my responsibilities, and most importantly, be aware of others by being respectful, kind, and sympathetic. I am a meticulous and organized planner; I enjoy organizing events, creating schedules and deadlines as well as formatting information for easier understanding for my teammates and
Defining leadership is a challenging assignment due to the many elements that leadership encompasses. Leadership is inspiring others to be better. It is recognizing the strengths and weaknesses in not only one’s self but that of others. Understanding that leadership is not perfect and is always evolving.
Learning how to become a leader was grueling. It didn’t happen overnight like I had hoped. There were many steps I had to take like learning how to open myself up to people. I was always a simple person who never shared how they felt with people. I needed to learn how to open up to people more, so I started being honest when someone would ask how I was doing. I also started telling people about the good and bad things that happened to me like the good grade I got on a hard test, or how I slipped and fell in front of an enormous crowd of people. Sharing little things
