This is It! Looking back to when we first began the semester in week one, I can remember not really expecting to gain much out of this class. I remember thinking that this was just another liberal education requirement that I had to fulfil to graduate. After having gone through OLDP 1301W, I can attest to the fact that it was certainly not just another liberal education requirement. The class really pushed me outside of my comfort zone. The first memorable moment that I would tell someone several years from now was our first major assignment, the Personal Leadership Journey. Although this assignment took a while to prepare, what I really learned from this assignment was the value being vulnerable can add to a group of people. In my Personal Leadership Journey, I talked about things that I haven’t even shared with my best friends; quite frankly, things I’m scared to share with other people. This was meaningful because I found out that there is another person in our community that shared a similar experience. From a personal standpoint, this gave me comfort that I’m not the only one going through an experience like this, and that other people face my …show more content…
After learning that leaving my comfort zone helped me to learn more about myself, more about others, and challenge my preexisting beliefs. Going forward, I plan to use this to learn more about things I don’t understand very well. One example of this is I don’t fully understand how options and derivatives work in finance. However, I am very interested in commercial lending. Recently, I’ve learned you can use options pricing models to price loans. Because of this, I am going to go outside of my comfort zone and learn how these two relate to grow as a commercial

This paper will incorporate four of the self-assessment I completed (Leadership, 2004). They are as follows; social motives in the work setting, my leadership styles, emotional intelligence, and team excellence. I will also identify and discuss my leadership characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses. We must first understand what leadership means. To lead, nonetheless, is to excite, to impact, and to inspire. The results of the self-assessments are not consistent. According to the Authentic Leadership Self-Assessment, I rated low on self-awareness. This is due to my inability to recognize my strengths and weaknesses. I did, however, rate high on internalized moral perspective, balanced processing, and relational transparency. Next, the LMX 7 Questionnaire, I rated high. This questionnaire was given to my supervisor and one of my followers. The results of my Path-Goal Leadership Questionnaire, I rated average in all leadership styles. I rated highest in the directive style. The Skills Inventory Assessment resulted in a high score in technical and human skills, and moderate in conceptual skills. Having a moderate score in conceptual skills results in my inability to see the goals of the organization. I should familiarize myself with the organizations aims and objectives and align my goals with theirs. Furthermore, the Leadership Trait Questionnaire scores averaged between a 3 and 4, the highest scores being in dependability and friendly.

During the past ten weeks, I have strengthened my concept of what constitutes effective leadership. Importantly, it is a leadership style that maximises the contributions of followers to achieve the desired outcomes for the organisation they represent. As Nanjundeswaraswamy & Swamy (2014, p.57) explains, effective leaders need to balance the drive to achieve a task with managing relationships. Therefore, it is essential for good leadership to not only focus on the task but develop, motivate and empower team members to strive for the achievement of task goals.
