Carl had an average life. He had a decent paying job and a decent house but by far the best thing he had was his beautiful wife Christine . Christine loved jewelry. Carl was going to give Christine a gold and diamond encrusted jewelry box for all her jewelry. he has been saving up for years now and now is the perfect time. “Christine i'm going to work again i'm taking the night shift” Carl said. “Why can’t you stay home you've been taking the night shift for a week now, you're not even supposed to be at the night shift. Is something wrong” Christine said. “ No not at all! i just got to make more money that's all” Carls said. …show more content…
Carl waved back and went to work. On his way home he sees smoke coming from an unknown region “Where's that smoke coming from?” Carl gets to the house only to see its on fire! Fire trucks, police cars everywhere. “We are lucky we got here early we stopped the fire before it destroyed your house” a firefighter said. When the water from the hose made the burning wood sizzle like bacon on a hot pan. Only a portion of the house was burned but unfortunately all the money was going to the house to fix it with only a 50$ bill from his night shift. Christine was ok but in shock. “Are you ok!” Carl said. “Yeah i'm fine but the house is not” Christine said. Carl did not know what to do he was stressed. All the money that was going into Christine’s gift is
This interest in firefighting helped Grace out on one eventful Saturday. This day started out as any other day for the people at the 1st Street Machine Shop. Around 9:30 A.M. one of the machines exploded, due to a wiring issue. The employees did their best to evacuate the building, but when they took a head count, one person was missing. John Smith was working in the back office and could not make it to an exit.
In a small town called Windrexville there was recently a fire at an old church on Jay mountain. A small class was going there for a picnic with their gardian Mr. Jerry Wood until a fire started and children were trapped inside. Thankfully, a red car arrived and three young boys rushed out of the car to save the kids while the church was crumbling down.
One man saw the fire and tried to get someone to use the fire box to get the fire department to send a fire truck. Sadly he had no such luck in notifying them. Fire boxes were boxes located on the street corner for people to use to alert the closest fire department, because telephones were not commonly available at that time. The other man just insisted that a fire truck had probably already been called and was on its way. The fire was so destructive because there were many mistakes and dangerous
It was a regular day at the G.A.P factory. Rachel and Rachel raced up the stairs crying, when she got up to the tenth floor, she saw that the fire was following her the whole time. She saw a can of liquid by the door. So she picked it up and flung it at the fire. The fire blew into flames, then she realized that it was motor oil used to fuel the sewing machine. The fire blew into the tenth floor quick. Rachela opened the door leading to all the women gazing her. She screamed at the top of her lungs “He Is coming”.
Fisher wakes up to the smell of smoke. After searching with no conclusion to what is the cause of the smoke, she calls the Lake Windsor Fire Department to see what the cause is of this smoke. The firefighter that shows up ~20 minutes later explains to her that it is a muck fire and that she is going to have to learn to deal with it. She is appalled by this and asks if there is anything they can do. They say no.
On October 15, 1910 the factory has a mandatory fire inspection and they pass. A month later, a fire in Newark kills twenty-five workers. This stimulates fire prevention efforts in buildings but again, this warning is ignored. January 15, 1911 is the last time prior to the fire that garbage is taken from the factory. On March 16, another report warning of improper safety standards in New York buildings is published. However, like previous warnings, it is again ignored. Nine days later, at 4:45 PM, just before workers would be released, a fire breaks out on the eighth floor. This fire will take the lives of a 146 unfortunate victims. Most of these victims are those of young woman. Six minutes later, the New York Fire Department (NYFD) arrives on site. By this time, the fire is spreading up to the ninth and tenth floors, which also belong to the Triangle Shirtwaist Company. Those on the eighth floor quickly head down and those on the tenth floor flee to the roof. However, most workers who were on the ninth floor are stranded, unable to move up or down. By 4:47 PM, the last of the bodies from the ninth floor land on the sidewalk, falling from the ninth floor ledge. It is not until 5:05 PM, that the fire is finally taken under control and ten minutes later is described as “all over.” (Stein. Triangle Fire) NYFD fighters head to all the top floors of the building finding many severely burned bodies. Mobs of
Maycomb County has been living a few dynamic days, as it not only snowed yesterday, but also today at approximately 2 in the morning a tremendous fire burnt the house of Maudie Atkinson to the ground. Even though the cause of the fire has not been confirmed yet, it is highly believed that it was due to the flue in her kitchen. Since it had not snowed since 1885, the people in town were not prepared. The fire truck was killed by the extreme weather and it took plenty of time for it to arrive to the scene, but fortunately it arrived in time to prevent the fire from spreading to other houses in the neighborhood. The commotion among everyone was clearly perceived.
Fire trucks immediately arrived on the scene. This was not much help because the town fire truck could not function correctly that night. The truck had stopped working that night due to the cold. A group of men had to push the truck to Maudie’s house to try to extinguish the flames.
There was a fire in Miss Maudie’s House and Mr. Avery gets stuck in the building. The fire started by Mr. Avery’s unattended stove overheated. A flammable object caught fire and set it ablaze. Most of the town comes to help Miss Maudie put out the fire.
The whole fire department arrived fifteen minutes later and after the fire was completely out the firemen told Anthony and Jay to go check on the girls. Kassady had two major burns on her leg and arm and Samantha had one major burn on her leg where her leg fell into the fire. The two girls hugged each other and then the boys hugged them. Anthony bought Samantha a giant teddy bear with get well soon written on it. When they got home, they had a meeting.
The fire spread from the O’Learys’ barn to the yards nearby. Soon it was spreading throughout the neighborhood. William Lee, a neighbor a block away, saw the fire and ran to Bruno Goll’s drugstore to turn in the fire alarm. Bruno Goll refused to turn in the alarm because he said the fire truck had already gone past. So instead of arguing, Lee went home to his family. At the courthouse the lookout on duty saw smoke, but thought nothing of it, thinking it was just Saturday's fire and there was no reason to be alarmed. Then he looked up and noticed it was a different fire and had his assistant strike the Box 342 for the fire department. Soon fire trucks were at the scene and attempted to put out the fire. The fire department’s Chief Marshal, Robert A. Williams got the engines to circle the fire to contain it. They got as close to the fire as they could until their arm hair was being burned and their
When the chief saw that his men were being pushed back he sent a young firefighter rushing to Goll’s Drugstore to send in an alarm for reinforcements. When the firefighter got there Goll was gone so he broke the glass that guarded the alarm box and pushed the button down. Unfortunately, he forgot to push it down a second time telling the office that it was a message for reinforcements. Instead the alarm office at the courthouse thought it was another person turning in the exact same fire. So they never sent in extra trucks. It wasn’t until the watchman from different station saw that the fire and the extra trucks were sent. By then it was too late the flames were now too big for any of the trucks to handle. The fire soon grew bigger and bigger. Then it started to move to the west side of Chicago. At first people thought it would be no big deal. But soon they saw it advance to their homes with big orange and crimson flames. Hundreds of people rushed to flee
I bid him goodnight, left for home and went to bed. My pager went off at one-thirty in the morning for a reported structure fire, called in by a passing motorist. The address given was that of the elderly couple’s home. My husband, who is also a firefighter was up, dressed and gone before I could get a babysitter for our two sons. I prayer that the motorist had just seen the flickering of the television set and mistaken it for a fire” (Yoder 102).
People often think of language as a connector, something that brings people together by helping them share experiences, feelings, ideas, etc. We, however, are interested in how language sets people apart. Start with the peculiarities of your own personal language—the voice you use when speaking most intimately to yourself, the vocabulary that spills out when you're startled, or special phrases and gestures that no one else seems to use or even understand—and tell us how your language makes you unique. You may want to think about subtle riffs or idiosyncrasies based on cadence, rhythm, rhyme, or (mis)pronunciation.
On June 10th 2016 I woke up and went out to start my day. Since it was summer I usually spend my days swimming or at home playing in the yard. That day I decided it was a perfect day with excellent weather to spend my day at the Plymouth pool. It was a great day to lay out in the sun and get a sun kissed glow, but most of all to hangout with my friends. I would usually spend my whole day from noon to 6:00pm at the pool, but this time by surprise my mom picked me up early and told me my brother and his girlfriend Renee wanted to take me out to Chicago with them. I was told I was going to go to a carnival or out to eat in Chicago, but my mom knew all along where I was going. She told me to find a shirt with dark blue on it but I never knew
