My parents had a dream to assist college, but unfortunately they were not able to accomplish their dream. Therefore, they sacrifice to allow my siblings and I to achieve a goal they were unable to. My mother does not work due to her lupus condition. My father is a maintenance worker for Sealy Co. Inc. They are also helping my older brother financially to pay his education expenses. My younger sister is a junior in high school and a cashier at a fast-food restaurant. I am a work-study student, working 10 hours a week at the Career Center as a Career Service Assistant. I am also applying for other scholarships and Federal Student Aid.
My parents are very strict towards the education of my siblings and I. They taught my siblings and I, that we
I have come from a struggling background. My parents never attended college and my mother has been the sole provider for my family for many years. I have watched her struggle trying to provide for us and I determined long ago that I would strive to do more for my future family than what she was able to give us. My dreams required that I attend college. It is because of the financial hardship my family faces every day that the financial burden that comes from attending college rests solely on my shoulders. Although I am employed, I do not make enough money to pay for the cost of living and my school expenses. My goal is to become an attorney and I do everything in my power to attain that goal. I excel in all of my classes and have become a leader on my campus and in my community. I rely on scholarships like the Silas Purnell Scholarship to recognize these attributes in me and with the help of this award I will be able to take my last step in my path of earning my baccalaureate degree and making my goals my
I was volunteering at the Career Closet that day, when a woman came in with 24 trash bags overfull with clothing, shoes, and prescription medication. As I was unloading the bags from her minivan and bringing them down to the back room of the Closet, she followed me around, telling me the story of her friend’s death. She had had a series of heart attacks and strokes, and lay dying in bed for over a year before her heart finally gave out. Her husband refused to move any of her belongings, but when he got a new girlfriend, she wanted space in their wardrobe, so she finally packed up all of the clothes and handed them off to the woman to whom I was now patiently listening ramble on and on, so she could find a place to donate them.
The salary that my parents got, can only afford their basic living expenses and also contribute some of the rest to my and my sister’s college tuition, which is obviously not enough. To help paying my college tuition, I work on the weekends (three days a week) at a grocery store with a minimum wage paying. I am so thankful to my parents for letting me go to college and pursue my life goals despite our financial conditions. Although many times I have been thinking to drop out of school, but there is no way that I could do that because of all the sacrifices that my parents had. My family has made many sacrifices for me to give me an opportunity to be able to enter college.
During my six months as a Clerical Assistant II, I have upheld the professional standards, confidence and faith that our citizenry has placed in this unit to uncover any and all records relating to their issues and questions to full exhaustion of department resources.
Currently, I am working as a graduate assistant to Dr Melody Eaton, associate director of the graduate program. Dr Eaton is an inspiring woman and provided me many interesting projects to complete. In addition to graduate assistantship, I am doing my practicum at the family practice and pediatric office. This semester I had an opportunity to work with MD and nurse practitioner (NP). This was the first time I had MD as my preceptor. This was definitely an eye opener to me because I noticed a difference in the approach of MDs and NPs. For instance, MD preceptor focused more on diagnosis and treatment while NP on connecting with their patient. Also, I noticed NPs were better able to convince the patient and MDs had deeper understanding of pathophysiology
In this article a young, certified nursing assistant failed to follow the guidelines in properly transporting the resident into her bed. Sadly, the resident ended up falling and receiving bruises, and black eyes due to the negligence of the nursing assistant. Rather than getting the resident help right away she asked a coworker to lie for her and say she had helped her, in order to keep her out of trouble. The co-worker didn’t follow through with the lie and the nursing assistant ended up losing her job and is facing charges of a class e felony, and a misdemeanor, also losing her certification. Griffith, G. (2015, June 3rd) Nursing home aide arrested, arraigned for allegedly neglecting elderly resident.
When we first moved to Bozeman for graduate school, my wife and I were the only people within the state of Montana that we knew. We were enamored with the scenery and opportunity provided to us through MSU but felt isolated and a bit overwhelmed in our new setting. As time progressed we were able make friends within the community and become more comfortable with our surroundings. Soon after, Bozeman became home. As a community assistant it would be our priority to integrate new tenants into our community and establish a sense of home with them as quickly as possible. It would be our goal to make them feel welcome by showing them around town, sharing our favorite restaurants and hiking spots, and even letting them in on some secret fishing spot
When I think of hardworking and dedication the first people that come to mind are my parents. Both of my parents have come from backgrounds where at times things were difficult. They instilled the values of hard work and passion into me from a young age and have ultimately left me inspired. Neither of my parents could attend a post-secondary institution. In fact, if I am accepted into university then I will be the first child in both past and current generations of my family to obtain a university degree. As hardworking as my parents are, to fully financially support two children who plan on going to university just is not possible while paying for other expenses in life too. Considering my father works in the oil field, as one can imagine, there is never a guaranteed amount of annual income that our family can expect. In 2015 alone we experienced a significant decrease in annual income due to the state of economy and the price of oil. A big reason as to why I am applying for the Centennial Scholarship is because I believe my parents deserve to save for their retirement versus paying for the next eight years of my education. My parents have never said
I have been working for the Alameda county social services since 01/1994 as an eligibility technician (ET) I, II and III and I was promoted to the employment counselor (EC) in 09/1998. As the employment counselor, I have got a lot of experience by working in different units such as Orientation, Assessment, Case management and Community Base Organization programs (CBO). With my responsibilities to assist individuals to become self-sufficient, I have been using The California Welfare Information system (Cal WIN) to issue support services for their activities such as attending schools, looking for jobs and going to work. At the current time, working in the case management unit, each month I have been using the system to issue electronic benefit
I have been an Administrative Assistant for over 30 years, since I graduated with an Associates in Secretarial Science – this was a blessings to be hired in my field of study. However, when I relocated to Florida it took me an entire year to be hired as an Administrative Assistant and though it took such a long time, it was worth the wait. I went straight to being the assistant to the second in charge of the company. However, after two satisfying years of service there, I was let go, and though I did not understand the reason, I did not question God. You see, I knew that if God allowed this to happen, then I though He must have something better in mind for me. Fortunately for me, during the year I was waiting to be employed, I took a course and was successful in receiving a license to be a Certified Nurse Assistant. That
On top of this, my parents always specifically looked up to me for being a leader in the house. The reason for this is, my parents knew very little English, and needed assistance with almost everything they would do. Also, I am the first child; the child that has to fall and learn from the mistakes without any older siblings advice or wisdom. Because of this, I make sure that once I learn the most efficient and effective ways of doing tasks, I then pass it down to my younger siblings. I make sure that they learn from my mistakes and accomplishments, while doing my best to lead them in the right direction to attain
It was a Wednesday night and my mother had left for her job at Manor Care again. The house felt hollow, mimicking my state of mind. I was lonely and could not find anything to occupy my time. I did not have any siblings and I was left all by myself in our home. Before she left, my mother said to me, “Najee, this is only temporary until I become a Registered Nurse.” Although I was happy that my mother wanted to pursue her career dreams, for me, the nights by myself filled me with an unparalleled void. I had this lingering feeling that I was locked in a bubble, insulating me from the outside world. A once happy boy had turned into a sad child; I had lost my joie de vivre. I no longer had any positive emotions towards anyone or anything. As a result, my grades began to slip and my once stellar academic record turned into something that I knew was not reflective of the type of student I was.
When it comes to making a budget plan, investments, paying bills, and saving money, I prefer to manage my own money instead of seeking someone for assistance. While it is true a financial advisor is skilled at providing advice for their clients, they can sometimes deceive you. I am not saying that all financial advisors are like that, but this may happen to some people. They might take your belongings behind your back. Though I am not an expert in financial activities, I am willing to learn how step by step.
I have been trained to become a chemist since the first year of my high school. This is a challenging career, requiring analytical thinking, attention to details, and adaptability. It is also a well-paying and promising career. However, chemistry is not what I have always dreamt of doing the rest of my life. As someone who is concerned about the development of sub-Saharan Africa, I came to a conclusion that what this region needs is not only scientists but also people who know and understand leadership and international affairs. In this paper, I compare my strengths and abilities to the qualities that one should have in order to excel as a chemist and a diplomat.
Becoming a financial advisor has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I have taken the first step toward fulfilling this dream of mine. In May of 2018, I will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Florida. While I am still learning everything I need to know about the field, I am seeking an internship at Verizon Wireless in the Leadership Development program. Doing so will allow me to further develop my social skills in an office setting while acquiring the proper training for a career in the future.
