I have accomplished lots of things in my lifetime. I have accomplished getting a job and getting my license to go to that job. I have accomplished working two jobs one is being a machinist and a referee.
When I started Chaffey College I did not had a college major in mind. My educational plan was set up to take general education for the first two semesters. It took me a month to realize I wanted to be a Dental Assistant. There was a waiting list for the program, but, fortunately I could obtain all the documents need it to be qualified. Now, my education plan is set up to graduate from Chaffey College by 2018. I will end up with an Associate Degree as a Register Dental Assistant. My education plan was set up to graduate in less than 3 years with the best experience and knowledge I could get. Being in college had made me increase my education goal, not only will I get a career in the Dental field but I will continue to become a mathematics teacher
Before I became interested in Spelman college, I knew the type of education that I wanted to receive. I wanted an education that would cater to my many endeavors. I wanted to learn wholly, passionately and creatively. During NSO, when Dr. Burnett spoke, I realized receiving a liberal arts education is more than learning it is an act of resilience, and an act of courage.
Growing up my father taught me many life lessons; one that I will never forget was when he told me: “A man living in a house without light will never know where he is going or what he wants to do.” At the time I did not understand what that meant until one day he explained in to me. Without proper goals a person is just lost in darkness and unable to find their way in life. By working towards my goals, I feel that I am constantly growing as an individual and learning how to approach all sorts of situations that life throws at me. Recently, being a part of the EOF Nursing School Program at Rutgers University, I feel that I have just set the foundation to achieving my goals which include graduating with my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing alongside one day opening a home for the less fortunate in Guyana.
Although most people would continue post-secondary after high school, I plan on going to college, most likely Langara college, first after graduating. At first, I did want to go straight to UBC or SFU after high school, however, I started thinking of what I wanted to do. Then it occurred to me of how this is going to affect my entire life. From what I heard from others, people sometimes change their decisions based on what they want to do as a career. Not only does this take a lot of time on studying something else after changing their primary focus, but also costs a lot of money. Unfortunately, I know that I won’t have enough money to pay off the financial expenses just to study for the career I want for my future. I need to make sure that
In 2005 I decided to call it quits. I retired from the military to only find myself back in the same shop I was leading rebuilding TF39 engines as a contractor. I did this for two years until I decided to pick up the family and move to Oklahoma City to work on the B-1 F101-GE engine at Tinker AFB. Soon after, the contract died and I had to find a new job. I got picked up as a civil service employee in the same shop. I then got promoted into the F117 Heavy Maintenance Center rebuilding engines for the C17. This was a new workload and we had to set up the shop. I’m not kidding about this, we had to order, build the tooling and set up the lean cells before we even started production.

Once I hit fourth grade, school from then on all the way to my very last day of senior year in high school was a very difficult journey. Not only was I difficult for me but also I had made life for my parents very difficult. In school I was always more concerned with girls and my year round swim team. I was one of those student who would never do their homework, however I would get A’s on the majority of my quizzes and test. Once I graduated high school I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I felt like a free man. I felt like I was going to finally be in full control of my path. Once I graduated high school, I felt confident and empowered to decide what next step I wanted to take in my education. My parent were just relieved that I had graduate and were thankful that I was even entertaining the idea of going to college. I kissed a full ride swimming scholarship out the window because I couldn’t commit myself to my grades. Even though I was a nationally ranked swimmer, I essential had no future in swimming without getting into an elite college known for swimming. These ramifications taught me to take the next step more seriously, which ultimately are the main reason why I try my best to get good grades in college. If someone would have told me that I would make the Dean’s list in college when I was in high school, I would of laughed at them. The choices I made in the past and feeling the ultimate freedom has influenced me to take a different direction in my education.
• Enrolling into college was a huge decision in my life, because of the fact I was a first generation student. As the first to attend college in my family, I was sending a message that I am competent enough to accomplish my goals. The goal that I had my heart set on was to become a nurse. I have already taken a step by enrolling into Mount Carmel College of Nursing. Mount Carmel College of Nursing is a program that allows you to earn your bachelors in nursing. I transferred to Mount Carmel from Columbus State Community College. While in Columbus State, I remember vividly thinking about how the career I choose will impact me lifelong. So it seemed reasonable to be a nurse, and help those in need. In helping my patients, I am also helping my community. Becoming a nurse will help me take care of patients during important moments in their life, and to make sure they receive quality care.
The career path as a Registered Nurse is far more interesting to me than a career path as a Dental Assistant. The job description and salary of
Within every job, club, or activity I participate in, improvement is at the basis. In key club, the forum for public service allows me to give back to my community. At the local event center, I am able to make every wedding or meeting the best as an employee. In robotics, I volunteer at the local kid zone, food pantry, and helped the local boy scouts earn a robotics badge. As a contestant in the NASA Space Settlement Design Competition, I have acquired unique skills. In a stressful environment, working with people with all different backgrounds, ideas, and tempers proved challenging, but it opened my eyes to how to interact with these people in a positive way. These skills can be applied in any type of environment. They can grow with each
On a gloomy, emotionally drained, rainy November evening I was stuck in the back of Shari's restaurant scrubbing dirty dishes. Twelve at night and school the next morning, piles of homework stacked higher than the dishes, I can even remember counting down the seconds until I could get out of that place. I then came to the realization that scrubbing dishes until the late night hours not only sacrificed my social life but also affected my education, things needed to change. It was time for a new job, I knew that with the skills and knowledge I acquired at my past jobs, my opportunities were endless for the future jobs waiting for me. The opportunity was eagerly knocking at the front door like my baby nephew does when he wants to come play in
Growing up, I always said that I was going to go to college. I made good grades in high school. I was in all the extra clubs and activities. I was in band and even the mascot. I never thought for one second that I would not go to college after I graduated from high school. Well, things changed for me my senior year. I fell in love, or so I thought. I got married the day after I graduated high school and then had my son nine months later. So, now with my son being a senior in high school and my daughter being a sophomore in high school, I decided that I needed to do something better with my life, not only for myself, but for my wonderful children as well.
In the beginning of my college academic career I thought I had it figured out. Like most naive young adults, I soon came to the realize that I didn’t. My first year of college I decided to go away to upstate New York and study at a vocational school to be veterinary technician. I had always loved animals, and I thought that this was the career for me. I slowly came to realize that it wasn't. For some reason the career was not fulfilling, and I quickly lost interest. I struggled a lot balancing a rigorous course load my first year of college, and on top of that I was far away from any support from my family. After my first year had ended, I felt lost and had no idea what to do next. I knew that I wanted to study something in the health or sciences,
