School is out! I ran and zipped through the back door into my safe haven. I leaned against the deciduous tree and watched as the graceful, draped foliage of this ornamental tree flowed in the cool brisk air. I sat there for a bit taking in the scent of freshly mowed grass and wet dirt, then I jumped up with excitement. A sudden, small burst of movement caught my eye. I followed the movement and walked steadily, cautiously, and carefully so as to not startle the creature, much like a tiger stalking its prey. The creature moved its head slightly and flickered its tongue, tasting the air. I moved close, and imitating my idols, I quickly placed my thumb gently but firmly on the head of the snake and my index finger under its head and picked it …show more content…
I thought of all the hours I had spent watching documentaries on Animal Planet and Discovery, instead of wasting my time watching Disney Channel or Nickelodeon like most kids. I thought of the days I had spent at home instead of going out with my friends or family because I had found a book about my favorite animal, at the time, and couldn't stop reading it until I finished. I remembered Steve Irwin, and pictured him walking up to me and shaking my hand as he told me that he was proud of me. It all paid off and I was overwhelmed with joy at having caught my first …show more content…
My grandmother’s voice was bouncing off the yellow walls of her house and into everyone’s ears. She was having another one of her “clean attacks”, my cousins and I were reluctantly cleaning a perfectly clean house. The floors were so clean that you could lick them, and the windows were so clear that they seemed to simply disappear. After almost a whole year of waiting, my cousins were finally coming to visit. Everyone was getting ready for a huge event, my oldest cousin, was finally getting married. As we all fought for the showers and mirror space, my grandmother was running around the house like a madman yelling at us to re-clean the house. When my cousins finally arrived we all greeted each other and left for the
The author uses imagery to characterize the snake and emphasize the importance of its life. When the narrator first approaches the snake, he observes how the snake “held his ground in calm watchfulness; he was not even rattling yet, much less was he coiled; he was waiting for me to show my intentions.” This description uses specific details of the snake’s actions to illustrate how the snake reacts nonviolently. In fact, the snake waits to see what the narrator does instead of attacking outright,
My plan for my future self is to be successful in any type of way possible and just make a good creative career the best way I can. Ever since I was a kid, I was in love with animals and hoped to make the animal environment a positive thing in the world and possibly become a Veterinarian. As I grew older, I started to think about how much time and effort I would have to put into what I wanted to become, but my mind was focusing on mainly helping people as I do today. I’ve never really been a straight “A” student and it is probably time to start focusing on how reality is and get my head in the game we call life!
Once again, I aimed at the snake’s body; this time, a little further back from the first hole, because his head had disappeared behind a stack of cinder blocks lined along the ground floor of the barns edge, as its body continued to crawl away, moving further away from me and the nest. I was scared to shoot again, for fear I would miss the snake and hit the cement block instead. Yet, I was more afraid of what my dad might say, if I let this snake get away. So, I took a deep breath and one

We rang the doorbell at my grandpa’s house and my uncle answers the door, “Hi Kata!!!!” he says. “Hi Mayonnaise”,I say. I call him that because of how white his skin is. As we were walking into the house I noticed a light switch behind the kitchen wall that I had never noticed before . “Mayonnaise, what is this” I asked. Before he could say another word, I flipped the switch and spanish music started blasting throughout the house. It was a pretty small average house, but it had a giant garden instead of a backyard with a variety of different fruits and vegetables. I was shocked, I jumped,I definitely was not expecting that to happen in any possible way. I flipped the switch and the music turned off. I asked my grandfather, “What is that!? “You like Spanish music?” After that whole thing, I played monopoly with my brother and my uncle as my dad quickly fell asleep on the couch. Once we had gotten a bit further into the game, my Uncle dared my brother to put a clothespin on my dad’s nose. As usually my dad snored like it was nobody’s business, and the bad part was that it didn’t stop until he woke the next morning. So, of course my brother took the challenge and grabbed a clothespin from the line and put in on my father’s nose. My father stopped breathing for a second, then quickly woke up looking like a dork with a clothespin on his nose.
It was early in the morning, and I had just woken up because I hear voices and objects being moved around in my grandma’s kitchen. I got up from the bed and made my way down the hallway straight to the kitchen. Once I entered the kitchen I saw all of my aunts with my grandma kneading the corn flour. I just stood there by the wooden door and watched as my aunts would laugh and talk to each other while the kneaded the corn flour. It was a beautiful sight to see because of the sunlight that was coming in from the window was hitting their faces and making it look like they were glowing. I started to look around the medium size room and saw the big dining table in the middle of the kitchen leaving little space to walk around properly.
In every frustrating situation, whether big or small, there is always hope. One can always find beauty in what others find worthless. By God’s grace, I have been blessed with this gift. I am able to appreciate what others find unappealing, and love those whom others deem undesirable. My positivity and optimism have the potential to brighten the world and bring light to others’ days. Through my career as a veterinarian, I will be able to directly touch my community and their animals, and will be able to love and show mercy to all of my clients and everyone I meet.
The sharp scent of chlorine fills my nostrils as I crane over the microadjuster, determining whether my Platinum/Iridium wire tip is done reacting. Waving away the fumes, I observe the bubbles fizzling out, turn the voltage off, and twist the tip out of the machine. At 163 nanometers wide, it’s the sharpest tip I’ve etched this summer.
As I go through my clinical experiences at my clinical sites, I believe that I have the skills and personal qualities that will allow me to succeed in both the radiology program and in a career as a radiology technologist. Every day that I go to a clinical site I learn something different, new, and exciting. I like to observe what different techniques help different people and what helps and makes them easier for me to understand.
Since I can remember I have had a fascination in the biological field. From a young age, I have wanted pursue a career in the medical field because I have always have felt the need to try help everyone in my community. I have taken multiple science classes in the past, been part of multiple medical clubs, some part of the school, and another outside of school. The course that I took, and enjoyed the most out of all the courses that I have taken was during my junior year of my high school. That course was Anatomy, the study of the human body. The reason why I enjoyed taking this course was because it was the first time that I was exposed to the biological field. During this course, I was given the opportunity to dissect a cat. This was the greatest
Scared, nervous, anxious my emotions were all over the place. I didn’t know the interview was going to be a group interview? “Great!” I said to myself, now I have to deal with making myself stand out more. I thought to myself I need this internship so I can be able to look at different careers in the medical field. I need to calm myself down now the interview is about to start. Each time it came to my turn I felt so nervous that I couldn’t get the right words out of my mouth. Nine questions went by and the interview was finally done. I shake hands with both interviewers as I step out the door I felt intimidated by the other applicants. I don’t even know if I aced the interview or completely bombed it.
Other responsibilities included scheduling, verifying insurance, cash management, collecting copayments, registering patients, and scanning clinic records. New Patient Services Representatives (PSR) were trained, medical records were reorganized, and streamline processes improved patient flow. Work also entailed creating a wait list protocol and working with Rehab therapists to coordinate and handle scheduling issues, that may arise.
Astronauts, police officers, and professional athletes are just a few of my dream jobs from when I was a little squirt. Well, reality finally hit me and I realized that I’m about seven inches too tall to cram into a rocket and head of to the moon. Lets just face it, I sure as heck am not running around in a outfit with a badge protecting people. Professional athlete, well I just won’t start with that. Once reality actually hit I came up with an idea of having an interest in a future career as a fishery biologist. Ever since I caught my first fish years ago, I have just been full of questions about fish and how fish work. To this day I am amazed on how these wonderful creatures function their daily lives. Fish are able to take your hook
Upon arriving to our apartment, my sister, brother, and I shared three hours of endless stories my mom had missed. Soon after, my parents decided it was time for bed. Having lost in a round of rock, paper, and scissors, I was forced to sleep on the floor with my parents while my sister and brother took over the bunk beds. Within a couple of hours into falling asleep, I woke up around 3’o clock from the floor vibrating with the bass notes from the bar downstairs. Scattered memories of my grandma suddenly rushed into my head: all the times I vented to her about how much I didn't want to go to piano lessons; the times I cried to her, limping back home with a bloody scraped knee; and the times we laughed together as my baby brother tried to talk to SpongeBob and Patrick through the TV. The last memory was the final straw, and I was ready to explode with the welled up tears from trying to seem like I had it all together. Still trying to hide my true emotions, I banged my head against the wooden leg of the bunk bed in an attempt to cover the true source of the teardrops. After hearing the loud thump, my parents immediately woke up asking me, “What’s wrong, what happened,” and going along with being the boastful kid I was, I responded, “I hit my head on the bed.” My mom replied, “Everything will be okay.” But everything was not okay because my grandma should have been next to me but instead, she was half way across the world.
Both my parents burst through the doors, looking slightly concerned. “Mehak, why are you screaming?” My mom questioned. My eyes started to get watery, thinking of all the terrible possibilities, and I got a feeling in my gut that something was wrong. “Grandpa... H-he...w-were t-talking a-and h-he started c-coughing a-and the l-line w-went d-dead.” I stuttered, not knowing what to think. My dad flew out of the room, probably to contact my grandma about what was going on.
