Throughout my childhood and teenage years, I have searched and searched for a talent that would give me a unique identity to make me stand out from my peers. When I was five years old, I was given the chance to be in a musical in our city's community theatre, PMT. This musical was "The Wizard of Oz", and I played the role of a munchkin in the Lollipop Guild. This initially sparked a great interest in theatre, and I fell in love with acting. I had an amazing mentor for my youth acting career, the late Jack Ewing. He played Harold Hill in PMT's production of "The Music Man", while I had the opportunity to play the role of Winthrop, the young boy that helps Harold Hill become a better person. (Jack later died a year before I had the chance to play the role of Harold Hill in my high school's production of "The Music Man Jr.") When I was about nine, PMT dissolved as an organization and therefore there was no community theatre around me for years, which put a setback in my interest and talent for theatre. …show more content…
Because of MTW being a distance away from my hometown, I was unable to try out for any other productions. Still searching for something to set me apart, in fifth grade I decided to join the band at my school and join the junior football team in Pratt. In band, I quickly found interest in percussion and started to become very passionate about playing percussion in the band. I continue to perform even to this day, and have taken many snare and timpani solos to our instrumental contests. I had received many Superior ratings on my solos in middle school and then it continued into high school; I was able to receive a Superior rating on my snare drum solo at the regional contest and had the opportunity to perform my solo at the state level, receiving an Excellent rating there. While in high school, I also found a liking for the quads/tenor
Before I even entered high school, I obtained a love of theater and the performing arts. I have been singing and acting since I was nine, as well as on and off dancing since three. Taking classes at a local theater really introduced me to this interest of mine. When I entered high school, an injury kept me from doing shows. But now I graduate with nine high school shows under my belt, as well as being in multiple community theater productions. Being a part of these shows made me feel a strong sense of belonging, and whether I was an ensemble or lead
Most of you probably don’t know this, but I have a very large love of theatre. It seems like a stretch seeing as I’m most likely shaking while reading this right now; however theatre has been a part of my life for a large portion of it, eight years to be exact. The idea of taking on the persona of someone else gives me a rush of excitement only few things can. I have done multiple shows in that time: A Christmas carol, Hairspray, The Wizard of Oz, Greater Tuna, The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and To Kill a Mockingbird. Most of these shows took place on the same stage in the Hillcrest High School Theater. This stage has special meaning to me as it is where I met a large number of my friends, it is where I met my girlfriend,
HI! Im Tony, and I love music. Ever since I was little I have been exposed to all different types and styles of music and I have always had a true passion for it. Ive played many instruments like Piano but the one that really stuck with me was percussion, specifically Snare Drum. So, since 6th grade, Percussion has been my instrument of choice and ive had the privelage of learning and performing at many levels in my drumming career! I was Drum Captain at my local high school, Lewisville High School, and even after highschool I continued to persue drumming. Therefore I have had the privalege of being able to perform with many percussion ensembles including The "Cutting Edge" Drumline which is The Drumline for the BIGGEST Haunted House in the World. The one and only Dallas Cowboys Drumline, the official drum group for the NFL's Dallas Cowboys (That was a fun gig) and Finally, "Vigilantes indoor Percussion" a Winter Drumline group
When I started high school, I was a shy and withdrawn person. I kept my distance from others. This was mostly due to the fact that I didn’t know anyone, and I was always told that high school was this big scary place. I didn’t really embrace school, because I didn't feel connected to the other students. Then I met someone who would become a very close friend of mine. This person always pushed me to meet new people. She suggested for me to join technical theater, or tech for short.
In high school, I competed in Marching band and Indoor Percussion for four years and was also in the Wind Ensemble playing percussion. I play several instruments, but my favorite is the marimba, which I have played for the past two years and have been taught one of the marimba players in the Blue Devils. I am hoping to join Marching band and Wind ensemble at the University of Oregon playing percussion.
It was about two hours until the doors opened and I was sitting in staring at my television, appearing to be in a trance. On the screen a mob of what looked like 30 or so zombies were chasing me through a maze of pilars and various piles of rubbish as I swiftly navigated the ceiling of an upside down temple in Tokyo. I was supposed to be headed to the ATM to withdraw gas money and a bit of spending money-in case I wanted to get a t-shirt or something but my Playstation's grip on me was as strong as ever. Fortunately, it wasnt long before my undead counterparts overwhelmed me and ended the game. I hopped up, grabbed my vynle copy of Return of 4eva and everything I would need for my journey, and darted out the door. I was embarking on my journey to the Granada Theatre where, after a lot of waiting, I would not only watch Big K.R.I.T. perform, but also I would also be able to meet him afterwards.
I started working at the theatre company when I was 8 years old as an Assistant Stage Manager and continued to work there until I left high school. I worked mostly with the logistics side of getting a live performance up and running as well as dealing with props and set pieces. I also worked as an intern and helped organize all of the archival footage for the theatre. I also spent time writing press releases and working on building the
Here’s a little about myself hopefully it can spark inspiration for an ideal costume. My physical features include longer brown wavy hair with brown eyes and that’s about all I’m going to say. Personality wise, I am outgoing and love talking to different people. I am involved in a campus organization called the Cougar Counseling Team. I love volunteering anywhere available such as orphanages, animal shelters, etc. My favorite sport to play is volleyball; I play at every opportunity given. I come from a small town and am a Christian, however, I am a liberal. I am very open minded and accepting in all aspects. The things that are most important to me are my family and friends. I adore my pets including my cat: Cinderfella,
I am very confident that I will earn at least an A or B on this paper. I have two final papers and a final performance in theater. I am the director for the theater play my group is doing and we will be graded as a group performance and not individually. My grades in that class depends on how we work together as a group. I have been outlining the way I want to direct our scene and it looks like I will do fine. I am confident to get at least a B on that final performance. On top of the performance, we have to write a in class paper that we describe how we will be involved in theater after the class. It think that will be easy because I have to state my opinion and I can’t be wrong on my opinion. On the scale of 1-10, I am 9 confident. For the
I volunteer for a theater class to help them move their props around. A problem came up when they had some people who had to quit being part of the play, and they needed people to fill their roles. I offered my help, but I had no idea how acting worked and the thought of a stage made me scared. The first thing I thought of doing was to go out and make some friends in this area. When I was able to know some of the people by name the play became fun, rather than
Many kids grow up with the wish of becoming a famous star. Whether it is a movie star, being on Disney channel, becoming a pop star and selling out stadiums, or for spending their life on the Broadway stage. While it is a known fact that while many want to live in this prestigious world, only a small percentage of the people actually can make a living in this business. Many actors live paycheck to paycheck, and even if they become big in the business they may not know where their next job will be. But most do the business for their love of the art, not for the money of fame. Theater becomes a therapy for me as well as other people, whether it is performing in a show or it is seeing your favorite show live on stage.
My life connected in many ways, there was a lot of hints at what career I would be doing in the future, all the way up to the end of my shows. Everything started when I was 15 and continued throughout my life, even when I was told that I wouldn’t make it anywhere. When I was 15 years old, I had gone to New York to study acting at John Murray Anderson/Robert Milton School of Theater and Dance. While I was there I had been told that I had no talent, which was ironic because of how I ended up living my life later on, with multiple shows, radio shows, and appearing in many movies. After I gave up on my acting career, I modeled. My small modeling hobby gave me more recognition. While modeling, I appeared in several movies from 1933-1940. I didn’t
The first time I ever performed in front of a live audience was in the living room of my childhood home. Before I could even read I was performing the classics. With bold expression, I played the starring role in the Phantom of the Opera. Along with my two siblings, I performed in our version of Star Wars, Psycho, and Pirates of the Carribbean. From the beginning, I revelled in the thrill of the performing arts.
In order to make a career out of theater, I would have to work incredibly hard. Even then I might not make it, so some ambition was lost. But when I saw Dear Evan Hansen, the broadway show, it inspired me to actually chase my passions. It moved me so much I saw it again and I got to meet my idol. These moments have led me to chase what I love doing and reach for more opportunities. I finally know what I want to do for the rest of my life, and seeing that cast tell such a heart wrenching story inspired it. Without this moment I wouldn’t be working so hard to make my passion a
Throughout my entire childhood and even part of my adulthood, I have been a performer. I sung in choirs, performed in theater ensembles, and even sung solos. Because I have had so much experience on the stage, most people wouldn’t suspect that I am terrible at speaking in front of people to the point of nearly throwing up. I’ve never had that problem with singing or with speaking other people’s words like I do in theater, but I always have this problem when it comes to voicing my own ideas in front of an audience. Deep down, I know I’m not an unintelligent person, but I fear that if I say the wrong thing, other people will think I’m not smart enough to listen to. Calming my nerves for this speech was especially difficult this time around because
