I grew up in a small town named Carson. There are only about five hundred people in Carson. I went to Riverside Community Schools. We were made up of students from three towns, there are about six hundred students throughout grade first through twelfth grade. I knew all the students that I graduated with, I grew up with them.
I decided to become a teacher after I was no longer able to become a nurse. I had already started college to be a nurse when I found out this was no longer an option for me. After I found this out I was disappointed, I had thought I was going to be a nurse my whole life. I had to sit down and think hard about my next career option. I wanted to help children, I knew that for sure. Therefore, I thought about teaching, I
Going into college, I would like to peruse many of my goals. I would like to start out getting my general studies in and then build up to become a Registered Nurse. After I accomplish becoming a Registered Nurse I would like to work on becoming a Nurse Practitioner. One reason I am striving to complete these goals is to be able to have a good future and hopefully a good job will come out of this. Neither of my parents went to college and I want to be able to accomplish that for myself.
When I started Chaffey College I did not had a college major in mind. My educational plan was set up to take general education for the first two semesters. It took me a month to realize I wanted to be a Dental Assistant. There was a waiting list for the program, but, fortunately I could obtain all the documents need it to be qualified. Now, my education plan is set up to graduate from Chaffey College by 2018. I will end up with an Associate Degree as a Register Dental Assistant. My education plan was set up to graduate in less than 3 years with the best experience and knowledge I could get. Being in college had made me increase my education goal, not only will I get a career in the Dental field but I will continue to become a mathematics teacher
On September 14th, Temple University welcomed a very incredible lady, Wanda Benventti. Benvenutti is a photojournalist, writer, and photo editor. However, most importantly she is a woman that truly loves and is passionate about her Puerto Rican culture. I had the opportunity to watch her present her project, that she has been working on for 18 years. My goal as a journalist, is to become a photojournalist. Therefore, meeting Benvenutt gave me a sense of hope, that one day I will become a successful photojournalist. Watching her pictures flow by on the screen, gave me a sense of inspiration.
My College and Career goals include graduating college and getting a job. I wish to attend the University of Alabama. I plan to major in occupational therapy or speech therapy. After I graduate with my bachelor's degree I wish to get my master's degree. After I finish my schooling I want to receive a job that allows me to provide for my family. I wish to receive this job in my degree's field. After receiving this job I wish to improve to reach a leadership role.
Before I became interested in Spelman college, I knew the type of education that I wanted to receive. I wanted an education that would cater to my many endeavors. I wanted to learn wholly, passionately and creatively. During NSO, when Dr. Burnett spoke, I realized receiving a liberal arts education is more than learning it is an act of resilience, and an act of courage.
As a junior in Early College I would more or less consider this my second year, as I have been taking college classes for three years now. However, I can still identify an issue I am facing with my courses. As I am trying to graduate a five year program in only four years, I have taken on a lot of responsibility as a 16 year old. I am currently taking 6 courses this semester, and I will have to take five courses every other semester to graduate on time. As I thought this would be a busy course load for me, I ended up quitting my job because they could not comply with the hours I requested due to school. I completely regret this, as I now have to work at a job that I am not making much money at and I have even had to take on some side jobs just to be able to pay my insurance on time. Sometimes, people make decisions that they think will better them and make life easier, but they make these decisions without careful consideration and at least trying the circumstance before changing everything.
Saginaw, Michigan, has a population of a little over 50,000 people. When I was between the ages of 6 and 13, my hometown was considered to be the most dangerous city (with 50,000 and up population) per capita in the United States according to the FBI. In 2013 it feel to the third most dangerous. Everybody in the city knows these statistics by heart. Dangerous cities are brewed from a combination of many things including lack of jobs, opportunities, and options. In Saginaw, like many other low-income, predominantly black cities, the education system works wonders in assisting in lead their products to prisons. Growing up in the part of city that has the most violence, I’ve seen cousins join gangs, die from being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and students with little options go down a path that leads to less options. Since growing up in these conditions
Since I was little I always knew going to college was the plan for me, but in all honesty I never thought of attending University of Saint Francis until about a year or 2 ago. When I did hear about Saint Francis from a student that attends there I knew that it was everything I wanted in a college. It is close enough to home and it has amazing programs for my career choice.
I have faced many challenges in my pursuit of my post-secondary education, the main obstacle being financial support. I come from a family of four, technically three after my parents divorced. my mother is a single-mom supporting two daughters who both go to post-secondary school. My mother has supported me my whole life paying for swimming lessons, soccer training, clothes, and other expenses. Therefore, I have worked my hardest this year to pay for my tuition, rent, and other expenses by myself. I want to take off some stress and pressure that my mother feels to try and support my sister and i, all while paying for other bills. In other words, I want my mother to not have to worry about paying fro my tuition or rent, until I absolutely need
College is a difficult time for students because of the amount of work that needs to be managed. Being a nursing major can be slightly more stressful than other majors because of the challenging information that needs to be taught. Freshmen year was very difficult to stay on top of all the assignments that were due; however, making a plan for success can help this crisis. To be successful in nursing school, I plan to have a long-term goal to have a 3.5 gpa every year. As the success video explained, setting a goal can be a helpful structure for students to follow. Although this dedication seemed hard at first, I broke down my inadequate studying habits and I transformed them into great accomplishments. My inoperative studying habits include procrastination and time management. I used my strengths for organization and studying every day to overcome my flaws. END THIS SOMEHOW
These words muttered by my Dad throughout my life have echoed through my mind ever since I can remember. Growing up, I always found myself wish I could have things. You know, like every kid. Instead of being told “No you can’t have that.” or “It’s too expensive.” I was met with my Dad chuckling and looking down to me uttering this sentence.
As a infant at only three months old i was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease. Being hospitalized is one of my earliest memories, sickle cell crises was the cause for me to be admitted in and out of hospitals. i would return to school and hurry to catch up on work, however not because i wanted to learn or succeed in my class, i just didn't want to feel different anymore. I was different in every other aspect from my peers, i needed on part of me to be normal, so i mean it my mission to return to school after every hospitalizations and work my hardest. Most people would think i worked so hard because i had a thirst for education, but all the hunger i had was hunger to fit in. i didn't find my love for a higher education until my freshman year
Growing up, I was just like the average child, one week I would say I wanted to be a doctor and the next I would say I wanted to be lawyer and then two days later, I would say I wanted to be an astronaut. All of this changed when I was in the sixth grade. I watched the movie "Harriet The Spy" for the first time and I was so intrigued. I remember saying,"This girl is pretending and she looks like she's having so much fun." From then on, I wanted to be an actress, but I didn't tell anyone. I thought people would make fun of me or say I wasn't good enough. This was a constant trepidation, so when people asked me what I wanted to be when I "grow up", I would say,"I don't know", and quickly change the subject. This went on for years, I would lie and say I didn't know what I wanted to be, when that was the farthest from the truth. I knew I wanted to be an actress. I stopped watching tv for entertainment and started watching so I could observe the actors. I would watch their movements and facial expressions, and I would even write down what they were saying and redo the scene how I thought it should be done.
My educational goals are to take everything that I`ve learned from college and high school and but it into my career in the future . Which what i want to do is major in culinary arts (Pastery Cheif) and open my own bakery its been a dream of mine since I was a little kid and my grandmother was the one who inspired me to own my own bakery. When I little my grandmother and me used to bake stuff all the time for like a church gathering, a funrasier, or just for a family get together and it was always so fun. We would laugh and smile there some of my favorite past memories and they encouraged me to do my dream.
I have always been fascinated with the military and its history since a very young age. I considered the military as a career briefly growing up, but I became very serious about the possibility in my senior year of high school. I began doing extensive research of each branch, along with the jobs offered within each branch. The Navy instantly grabbed my attention with the wide range of opportunities within the technical and engineering fields. From there, I did more research on the opportunity to become and officer. Leadership is an important quality in my life. I was involved in leadership groups throughout high school, and I am currently seeking ways to be a leader in the university I attend. I have always loved taking on the responsibility,
