Whether through formal preparation, such as your BSN or MSN degrees, or through your professional duties like continuing education requirements, our nursing career is an ongoing cycle of learning that is a part of the day-to-day profession. As the number one most trusted profession, it is our duty to continue to progress with the direction healthcare is advancing. I believe the responsibility of the nurse is going to grow in healthcare. While there are topics that I concur with, there are also points in this chapter that I see in an opposing view.
In comparison, I believe that the patient population will push for a change in healthcare. As stated on page 481, “Consumerism is likely to become a force as the public becomes more discontent with

Although they can function conducting basic care activities, it would be out of their scope of practice. Rather than the nurse supervising a multiskilled worker, I see technology advancing quicker. With the technology advancing, I see a declining need for the unlicensed personnel. We already have the technology that takes vital signs automatically and where you can preset parameters for the machine to alarm you when it becomes too high or low. But as of now, I see the need for the unlicensed personnel. When you have a patient ratio of 5:1 or 6:1, there is no way you will be able to handle 4 patients who need feeders, helping 2 patients to the bathroom every 30 minutes, or ambulating all 5 or 6 patients in a shift on top of medications and emergencies. There just isn’t enough time in the day. Bottom line is, there will be a need for supervising unlicensed personnel but not to the extent that there will be an increase in multiskilled workers and decrease in nursing staff. I see that the more hands we have attending to our patient needs, the better the patient will satisfied with their …show more content…
Again, we go back to consumerism. In order to satisfy our patients, we must address their health early and quickly. In scenario two, it talks about a drought of physicians and availability to those that are practicing. This is easily fixed by allowing advanced practice nurses to take a larger role in the community and clinics. In order to measure health and accurately measure how to prevent risk factors, we need data. Look at the strides that we have made with immunizations. We were able to collect the data and compose vaccinations that allow us to live healthier lives longer. I believe that better healthcare will be achieved if we educate early on risk factors and preventative measures. Through my generation, I have seen that as we educate the youth and middle-aged populations, there has been a rise in the average age of life expectancy. For example, as a kid, I was hammered about putting on sunscreen to prevent harm from sunrays but my parents describe that they were care free outside, not aware of the true potential of these
Practitioners will see the monetary incentive involved in the private system and thus we would see a decrease in the public system’s workforce. If this becomes the case, in order to get better health care access, individuals will have to pay more out of pocket to receive better health care. I felt
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) helped me to develop leadership skills in my nursing practice by utilizing the integration of nursing science, theories, and concepts with knowledge from ethics, the biophysical, psychosocial, analytical, and organizational sciences as the basis for the highest level of nursing practice. At the start of the DNP program, I was a clinical bedside nurse with limited skills as a nurse educator and leadership, now I feel I have achieved mastery in developing leadership skills as well as increased confidence in the use of evidence-based practice and research. Examples of critical events that have stimulated my growth in the program include the DNP project plan and the workshop implementation.
In today’s healthcare system, nursing is a challenging field as a result of rapid technological advances and changes in healthcare policies. As a dedicated nursing professional, with a great passion for learning, I strive to stay on top of these changes. I am determined to increase my knowledge to be an instrumental part of providing quality healthcare. The demands of nursing are high; however the rewards are even higher. Nursing requires both a supreme understanding of the science of health, and a caring bedside manner befitting only those who seek a position of such a personal involvement in the well-being of a patient. Academically, I will put forth all of
My personal philosophy of healthcare is something that I want to perfect, and change to make sure, I look to it at times when I might doubt myself or even question why I want to be a registered nurse in the first place. The American Nursing Association defines nursing as the “Abilities to protect, promote, and prevent injury and illness, alleviate suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of families, individuals, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2014). However, nursing is a lot more than these points that were stated above and in this paper I will be discussing my personal philosophy as a future registered nurse. A belief that I will incorporate, in my philosophy of healthcare are as follows: striving to be the
demand that society leads us all to believe in our healthcare potential for curing oppose to attending to the needs of the sick individual. (Riggs, A. 2016).
When working as a health unit coordinator some of my my duties is to transcribe doctor orders, process doctor orders, make appointments for clients, order supplies as needed. When I am working as a nursing assistant my job requires me to bathe and dress patients, take vital signs, serve meals, set up medical equipment, answer call lights as needed, observe changes in clients
In this article a young, certified nursing assistant failed to follow the guidelines in properly transporting the resident into her bed. Sadly, the resident ended up falling and receiving bruises, and black eyes due to the negligence of the nursing assistant. Rather than getting the resident help right away she asked a coworker to lie for her and say she had helped her, in order to keep her out of trouble. The co-worker didn’t follow through with the lie and the nursing assistant ended up losing her job and is facing charges of a class e felony, and a misdemeanor, also losing her certification. Griffith, G. (2015, June 3rd) Nursing home aide arrested, arraigned for allegedly neglecting elderly resident.
I was recently fortunate enough to speak with Carri Montgomery, who lists her title as the Director of the Women’s and Newborn Center for Platte Valley SCL Health. Platte valley use to be community owed and they recently joined Sister’s of Charity which includes; Good Samaritan, Lutheran, and Saint Joseph Hospital. The purpose of this interview was to interview someone where I could see myself working in what they are doing later in my career. With this interview I hoped to learn what it took for Ms. Montgomery to be in the position she is today. Also, get advice from her to see what where the things she recommended I could do when I graduate from Metropolitan State University (MSU) in 2019. It was beneficial to interview her
I interviewed Beverly Stark. She works for Health Partners Hospice and Palliative Care as a hospice registered nurse (RN). The setting of her work varies. It is wherever her patient lives, which can range from a hospital, long term care, or in the patient’s home. She emphasized the importance of her team. She works with nurses, social workers, home health aids, chaplains, doctors, and hospice volunteers on a daily basis. She is part of what they call a core group. Each core group is made up of two RNs, one social worker, and a home health aid (HHA). The core group meets once a week to talk and update each other on their caseload. Additionally, they meet with the chaplain and a doctor weekly (B. Stark, personal communication, Sept 9, 2016).
The future of healthcare if left as is, the system will falter and eventually, a new reform will be realized as necessitous (Garman, Butler , & Brinkmeyer, 2006). When the system proposed fail to meet
For my Project Life presentation, I chose to do mine on a registered nurse. The reason I chose to do mine on a registered nurse is because I love to help people. When I help people, it gives me a great feeling. A registered nurse is a nurse who has graduated from a college's nursing program or from a school of nursing and has passed a national licensing exam. In order to be a registered nurse you must have either your associates or bachelors degree. You can get a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), if you want to advance in the profession. You can also get a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), it may lead to advances such as: Clinical Nurse Specialist, Anesthetist Nurse, Mid-wife Nurse, or a Nurse Practitioner.
Initially I was very apprehensive in sharing the truth behind what ultimately made me decide to return to school to become a nurse. This would entail reliving both joyful and painful memories of my life which I believe to have mapped out the path that I was meant to follow. I was a young, stay at home mom for many years. being the full time primary care giver to my three children was the most rewarding experience of my life. reflecting back I have found remarkable similarities in the traits and skills of mothers and nurses. many of these characteristics are utilized by nurses with each and every patient they encounter . These include but are not limited to compassion , empathy, prioritization, dedication, understanding nonverbal communication.
Ask someone, and chances are, they’ll argue that health comes first. Doctors say it, parents repeat it, media promotes it, but in actuality, not many of those who suggest making health a priority can truly say that they’ve never jeopardized their health, whether that be through something as small as skimping on sleep or as big as stressing themselves out, for their job. While some might not consider it one, maintaining a certain BMI is another health benefit that goes neglected, especially in modeling, a career that carries the stigma of only consisting of starving girls who need to “eat a burger”. Luckily, I never had to worry about my weight mainly because I danced 22 hours a week, something I could maintain in middle school only because I was homeschooled. Once I started high school, however, I found it hard to stick to this rigorous schedule, so it wasn’t long
After reading chapter I thought it would beneficial to interview a senior leader within my organization to better understand the economic challenges that our organization is facing. The first thing she commented on was the effects of healthcare reform on hospitals and healthcare providers. She told me that the "triple aim" of healthcare reform is to improve patient care, lower costs, and improve the health of the population. She discussed that reimbursement for hospital visits and tests are all being reduced at a time when quality is expected to improve. This has caused hospitals to drastically look at the way they are doing business and find better more
Responsibility, the term responsibility is defined as being accountable for a particular situation. The day I entered into the nursing program at Hinds Allied Health I knew it would come with a new and profound responsibility. I acknowledged the new changes, which came with some adjustment, and accepted them. The atmosphere and curriculum was very different from my original upbringing in other schools. Despite the change and fear I took on the responsibility of being a nursing student. Being in nursing school is a learning experience. I am growing and learning new information each semester. I try my best to do what is expected of me in this program but sometimes I fall short. However, this is no excuse for my previous behavior. I did
