When I started my nursing career, my experience with the older nurses was not pleasant. For that reason, I wanted to leave the profession because of the way I was treated. They were mean, not helpful, unapproachable and had unpleasant attitudes. I was afraid to approach any because of the reaction expected. My past experience as a young nurse has motivated me to pursue a career in Nursing Education because I want to make a difference. As an Educator, I want to be approachable, supportive, and knowledgeable to the nurses I mentor. After completing of my degree, my goal is to transition to a Leadership role at my place of employment where I can utilize my skills as an Nurse Educator to the Care Managers. I have never held a role
I was never a kid that knew who I would become when I grow up. My interests ranged from wanting to become an interior designer to having a strong desire of becoming a pilot. I was often surrounded by healthcare professionals but I never imagined myself striving to become one. Little did I know that I would end up at a stage in my life where I would be sure about pursuing a career in healthcare. Although I have decided on my career path, I have yet to discover a particular field within healthcare that grabs my interest. The RA Internship will help me learn more about medicine and help me find a right field of study through clinical research experience and monthly lectures offered to me as an intern. Though this opportunity I will be able to
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) helped me to develop leadership skills in my nursing practice by utilizing the integration of nursing science, theories, and concepts with knowledge from ethics, the biophysical, psychosocial, analytical, and organizational sciences as the basis for the highest level of nursing practice. At the start of the DNP program, I was a clinical bedside nurse with limited skills as a nurse educator and leadership, now I feel I have achieved mastery in developing leadership skills as well as increased confidence in the use of evidence-based practice and research. Examples of critical events that have stimulated my growth in the program include the DNP project plan and the workshop implementation.
After choosing my career—Neonatal nursing. The next decision is which college I want to attend. I have had a few colleges in mind such as: Southern miss, William Carey, and University of Louisiana in Lafayette. I think that career day will be will help me finally decide on which college I would like to attend.
In this article a young, certified nursing assistant failed to follow the guidelines in properly transporting the resident into her bed. Sadly, the resident ended up falling and receiving bruises, and black eyes due to the negligence of the nursing assistant. Rather than getting the resident help right away she asked a coworker to lie for her and say she had helped her, in order to keep her out of trouble. The co-worker didn’t follow through with the lie and the nursing assistant ended up losing her job and is facing charges of a class e felony, and a misdemeanor, also losing her certification. Griffith, G. (2015, June 3rd) Nursing home aide arrested, arraigned for allegedly neglecting elderly resident.
Having been a certified nursing assistant for just about six years I have had many experiences and come into contact with countless people who have touched my life and inspired me to become greater; to become a nurse. Co-workers, patients, patient family members and my own friends and family have always told me to pursue a career as a registered nurse. A very special co-worker of mine, Kathy a registered nurse, inspired me every day I came into work. She always had a smile on her face, she was always the first nurse to rush to help, she would listen to the patients and take the time to talk to them, and she treated every patient that came on our unit with care. Kathy would also take the time to answer questions that any of the CNAs had and
I interviewed Beverly Stark. She works for Health Partners Hospice and Palliative Care as a hospice registered nurse (RN). The setting of her work varies. It is wherever her patient lives, which can range from a hospital, long term care, or in the patient’s home. She emphasized the importance of her team. She works with nurses, social workers, home health aids, chaplains, doctors, and hospice volunteers on a daily basis. She is part of what they call a core group. Each core group is made up of two RNs, one social worker, and a home health aid (HHA). The core group meets once a week to talk and update each other on their caseload. Additionally, they meet with the chaplain and a doctor weekly (B. Stark, personal communication, Sept 9, 2016).
I'd like to share an example from my personal experience that illustrates nursing as an art. While working as a nursing assistant there was a patient who had just been newly admitted into the nursing home. This was his first time being a resident in a rehabilitation facility so he was very hesitant and scared. During his first day, he refused to let me take his vital signs. However, I noticed the uneasy look on his face and decided to talk to him further and discuss his fears. He explained to me that he'd gotten his blood drawn several times that day and didn't want to be stuck anymore. After getting an understanding of how he felt I was able to address his concerns and explain that there no needles involved in obtaining his vital signs.
On Tuesday 18th, 2017 I interviewed Elizabeth Surprenant the systems Administrator for B. F. Saul Company & Affiliates (Real State Company). Before I decided to interview her, I first targeted the type of occupation that I want to know more information. Economics my targeted major. Due to my interest in economics, I decided to interview Ms. Surprenant, who has a bachelor degree in Accounting and she doubled major in economics. There were 2 degrees of separation between this Ms. Surprenant and me. I contacted her via email and set up a meeting to discuss some details about her occupation.
Without mental health nurses, this world would be crazier! Nurses are what change the lives of many people, but mental health nurses are what change the lives of many people battling emotional disorders. I chose this career because working with people, in general, allows me to help them and make them feel better.
In the year of 2014, it was a hard time for my family and me. Throughout the whole year of 2014, my grandpa was in and out of the hospital weeks turning into months at a time. He was the healthiest man, but that year really took a toll on him, which resulted in him extended hospital stays. Throughout the whole year, the nurses became so close with the family seeing how they would conversate with our family so much. The nurses provided so much security and assurance within their scope of practice within my grandpa’s hospital stays. It was the nurses in the room late nights and early mornings keeping my grandma and family company, displaying their empathy and treating us like their very own family. We all shared laughs, prayers, hugs, and cries all while concluding their job duties. The words spoken by Maya Angelou, “I have learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but will never forget how you made them feel.” From every doctor, nurse to janitorial staff that had an encounter with my grandpa and my
Life is no different than the weather. Not only is it unpredictable, but it shows us a new perspective of the world every day. Since I started working in the Emergency Department at Pinnacle Health I have seen 10 cardiac arrests and 10 deaths; never once has a patient lived, until recently.
We haven't talked in a while so I thought I send you a quick e-mail. My life has been school, running, sleep, and music! School is going well like all my teachers (for the most part)! I haven't raced yet in cross country because I got sick a few week ago... I am just not getting over it, and I was supposed to have a meet on Saturday, but it was canceled due to horrible course conditions. I have been spending a lot of time producing music... Over this last summer, I got very serious about it. Realistically, I don't think it will be a career field for me, but you never know, and I really enjoy it. I've thought myself a lot, but I think I will be meeting with some actual audio engineers to learn even more. Right now music production
Although most people would continue post-secondary after high school, I plan on going to college, most likely Langara college, first after graduating. At first, I did want to go straight to UBC or SFU after high school, however, I started thinking of what I wanted to do. Then it occurred to me of how this is going to affect my entire life. From what I heard from others, people sometimes change their decisions based on what they want to do as a career. Not only does this take a lot of time on studying something else after changing their primary focus, but also costs a lot of money. Unfortunately, I know that I won’t have enough money to pay off the financial expenses just to study for the career I want for my future. I need to make sure that
I have always felt that life is a grand adventure. You never know what is waiting to be discovered just around the bend in the road. Teaching novice nursing students, like life, is a daring and exciting endeavor calling for purpose and passion. Nursing instructor and student are partnered together on a learning quest to transform the young and naïve student into the wise, competent, confident professional nurse.
Most people who enter the social work profession are motivated by the desire to help others as well as the desire to change their world. In my mind, people who choose the career of social work must cherish it as a great opportunity for them to generate change and influence a new path for someone who was sent down a negative part. If Betty wants attain her bachelor of social work as an area competency to fall back on in the world of work, then she needs to acquire the necessary characteristics. She must therefore understand the gravity of a career in social work and the part that individual plays in pulling communities together, helping individuals and families find solutions, advance changes in social policy, promotes social justice, and foster
