It was a normal day for everyone. Sunny, sticky and a little cold, but a typical day in Tennessee. No one knew what was going to occur later in that day. Packing up, putting the suitcases in one by one, my family, my brother Declan and parents, were ready to take on yet another adventure. Declan, was playing with his blonde stringy hair, as usual, whining about the long trip ahead. My mom mentioned calmly, “It will only take about 7 hours not including our stops, we will be home in no time.” I buckled up my seat belt preparing myself for the long ride ahead. The dirty window slowly rolled down right past my eyes, making a squeaky noise, as I yelled goodbye to our hosts. As I stared out the back window and saw our hosts slowly start to fade as we drove away, then started reminiscing all the memories made. I plugged in my headphones and drowned myself in my music as I stared at the newly built houses, watching kids playing kickball outside. I looked up with a smile on my face as my dad slowly rolled down the windows as the sound of cowbells and banjos filled the air. To my surprise, I was surrounded by cowboy boots and hats, and the smell of barbeque in the air. My dad slowly drove through the heart of downtown Nashville before finding a spot to park. In amazement, we pulled up to a restaurant called …show more content…
Before my mom sent me and my dad off to find help, she was on the phone with the roadside assistance which seemed like forever. All of a sudden we then realized the gas station wasn’t that far down the road, at least that is what we thought. We started to walk to the gas station, our foots sinking in the mud, the cold mud rises to our ankles. We immediately turn around knowing that this wasn’t the right decision. The gas station was longer than we thought, it was not even visible. Trudging back to the car we come to find my mom on speakerphone with the phone ringing. It goes straight to
The greasy scent of cheap burgers and fries wafted into the car as we pulled into the parking lot of a Wendy’s, right in the heart of who-knows-where, East Tennessee. I couldn’t contain my excitement as I rushed my 12-year-old self out of the minivan and into the palace of grease. Clad in ratty sweatpants and a t-shirt with my hair pressed down from my prolonged use of headphones, it was evident that I spent long hours sitting in a car, asking “if we’re there yet” too many times to count. In this moment, however, carving up Snowshoe Mountain on my snowboard didn’t seem as exciting as the machine that stood across the room. Standing tall, shiny, and red, the Coca-Cola Freestyle soda fountains were in the early stages of being released, and
Well the week of our trip to Memphis Tennessee had finally arrived ! My colleagues Beverly,
Kansas City born and raised in rural Indiana, I did not live and grow up in the same house as most kids around here do. I’ve moved twice in my lifetime and couldn’t be more grateful that we did. My family has made southern Indiana our home now for the last 15 years. I’ve played multiple sports here and with each sport I made more and more friends. When I go back to the city I was born in, I think about how different my life would’ve been if my parents hadn’t decided to move. I would have never gotten the chance to wake up and be surrounded by corn fields every day. I would never have been able to ride fourwheelers in my backyard, mow grass on a riding-mower, or even have a garden. There is privacy here, whereas neighbors in the city can see
This year’s family vacation was one for the books. With my aunt living in Tennessee, we do not get together as often as we would like so my family decided to go to Nashville, Tennessee. When we started our trip, it was 6 a.m. and it was nothing short of fun and laughter along the way. Never having been to Tennessee before, I figured I’d enjoy the eight-hour ride of sight-seeing and laughter with my family. When we were a few miles into the trip, the mountains of Georgia were breathtaking. While I was enjoying the scenery, another thing that I found enjoyable about this trip was the conversation that I had with my family. We went on talking about life in general, all the struggles, and childhood memories that we had. We even talked about years
I thought today would be just another normal day in chilled Maryland, but oh could I have been more wrong. The day started out just like every other. My little eleven-year-old heart was full of jubilance. I was having an admirable day with all my friends, and I had no worries. None of my siblings knew that an event that night at dinner was about to change our lives for better or for worse. My family and I sat down at aged table and we could all feel the tension that surrounded the air. “We have something to tell you guys, and we don’t want you to get upset” declared my mother. This statement made me nervous. Anytime some says not to get upset, you know something has happened that is going to change your entire live. “We are moving
“Welcome to Baltimore” the signed said. We had finally got to where we would be staying at in a hotel. As soon as we get there my mom had to check the room out before we even walked in. Looking for any problems in the room so we wouldn't get charged. That put me in annoyed mood by how she just stopped my excitement. She had found something. A huge crack across the window that you could hear the wind go through and push easily. My first move was to get cleaned again due to the odor i felt from being in the car so long. The bathroom was nice with a walk in shower, granite counter tops, and long horizontal mirror across the wall. Once i out my outfit on i had to see my brothers first to make sure we weren't matching with anything. I had on a blue nike sweat suit with blue nike shoes and he had on all white adidas shoes, with adidas black jumpsuit. Since i was out of michigan i had to get the famous chick-fil-a. The best part was that it was right across the street from my hotel. All i could do was smile in satisfaction. We left the hotel and stopped at chick-fil-a. With the long line as usually we went in and sat down. I got the #1; chicken sandwich with fries and a lemonade.
My life’s journey since graduating from Maryville High School in 1965 took me from my home town for several years, but I returned here in the summer of 2013. It is great to be back in Maryville! In addition to Maryville and Knoxville, I lived in West Tennessee (Bradford and Milan) and Fort Lauderdale.
n mid May of 2010 me and my mother lived in Nashville, Tennessee and in those couple of days, May 1 and 2, 2010 were the scariest days I have ever experienced. So scary because om those few days I spent a large amount of it either alone or displaced and middle Tennessee received nearly 14 inches of rain. A record that made the previous of only 6.68 inches that was set back September of 1979 look like one great day. Also before before May of 2010 Nashville 's record rainfall in a month was 11.04 inches, set back in 1983. It is amazing that a month's record was broke in two days. Exactly why us locals call it the "1000 year flood". The Cumberland river , the main river that runs through downtown Nashville crested at 62.58 ft. Parts of I-40, I-24, and I-65 were flooded. Ten people died in my city alone. Twenty- two in Tennessee altogether.
After that it was smooth sailing. We finished out the last part of our trip driving through a beautiful little college town. The picturesque setting of “Young Harris” is what I love about traveling the backroads. It takes longer but you gain a glimpse of small town living. And then we pulled into
560 miles, four states, and half a day of travel to see two of my close friends and a Kanye West concert. The travel to Nashville started an early morning at Pittsburgh International Airport with my brother. After awaking to find myself in Chicago my mind started racing with the possibilities of what awaited me in Nashville. I knew the city would be packed with many others going to see the Kanye West concert in the Bridgestone Arena. As time passed I knew it was time to board our next flight to Nashville. I heard the stories about what Nashville was like but i was still excited to witness what it was truly all about. As the plane landed in Nashville i quickly pulled out my phone to send pictures to my friends and family.
A Congressperson’s life is not as glamorous as some may think. Although the daily duties that I perform vary in difficulty, detail, and even location, the schedule is actually quite monotonous. Whether I am in carrying out those duties in Washington D.C. or in my home office, each work day starts with a staff meeting. Because of my hectic schedule, it is imperative that I surround myself with trustworthy and diligent staff who help to ensure that I am not overbooked and who will act as professional liaisons, accurately conveying the needs and concerns of my constituents. From there, my day continues with various meetings and appointments.
District 2 was my location for my ride along. It's the biggest district that the county has, it covers from interstate 10 to northern then 75th avenue and everything west from that, It covers about 6000 square ft it the areas included in it are Laveen, Rainbow Valley, Tonopah, Phoenix, Avondale, Glendale, and Buckeye and it has 3 contracted cities which are Gila Bend, Litchfield and Goodyear. I was assigned with deputy Horning during swing shift.
The day before my church's trip to Tennessee I was really nervous and excited. My sister went on it once and told me how much she loved it. So of course I was happy about getting to go, because last year I was too young. My sister and I stayed up all night till two in the morning talking about what we were going to do there. The day we left I met a girl named Andie. She and I talked about different things like anime and Homestuck. I have no idea when I finally feel asleep.
Me and mom went home ate dinner and went to bed. When I went to bed that night I had no idea i would be woken up at 5am by the screaming voice of my mother but on January 26 at 5am I became scared, I heard the screams but I couldn’t make out what was being said. It sounded like someone was being stabbed and at first I thought it was just a dream. I grabbed my phone to check the time, I didn’t want to come out of my room until i knew what was wrong so I just waited and in less than 5min my mom busted into my room screaming and crying, at this point I still didn’t know what she was saying but I knew no one else was in the house so I felt a little better. I remember following her around the house trying to figure out what she was saying. She sat in the living room chair to put her shoes on and she could barely do that. While she was still trying to put her shoes on I stood next to her trying to calm her enough for me to understand what she was saying and when she yelled out “My mom” I didn't know what to do, I fell to the floor and sat against the chair. When mom got her shoes on she searched for her phone realizing she needed to call my dad at
I suddenly heard my phone start ringing and when I looked down I knew it wasn’t going to be a good call. The call was from my Aunt Michelle, this woman HATES talking on the phone. She would rather text you or not talk to you than to talk on the phone with someone. When I answered the phone she immediately sounded very concerned. The first thing she said was “Please sit down I have something to tell you.” She then proceeded to tell me that my mom had been in a very serious wreck in her truck on the way to Blackshear, Georgia and that she was being life flighted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Georgia and that it was not looking good. She wasn’t responsive and was losing a lot of blood.
