An Owner and their Horse There is nothing like getting to the barn and being greeted by an animal that loves you more than anything. The bond between my horse and me is something that can never be broken; we have a connection that no one else understands, only us. Horses are not just pets; they are a shoulder to cry on, a family member, and most importantly a best friend who is there for you no matter what. When I first got Skippy, it was a very exciting moment for me. He is tall, sorrel and has a very loving personality. But it was different for the both of us, we both had to get used to each other and our different personalities. But after weeks of spending time together, training and starting to understand each other the bond between
Some people think of them as animals. Some people think of them as objects. Some people think of them as friends. Then there are the few who think of them as family. Horses have always been like family to humans, except sometimes closer. There are many benefits to owning or being around horses. They come in many different colors. There is a multitude of breeds, also. Additionally, they have a long history with humans. Horses have unique behaviors. Showing horses has been the past-time or even career of many people. Furthermore, caring for horses can be a handful, but is definitely rewarding. Finally, riding horses is not just a hobby or a sport, but an action of your heart. Horses are wondrous creatures that have lived with man or
Horses have been around for more than 50 million years. Once horses and humans came together they have been clicked since in many ways (Walter). Humans had made horses broken to do about anything for about 6,000 years (Walter). Over the time of breeding and cross-breeding we have made powerful horses from large Percheron to the little miniature ponies (Walter). Some examples are the things that horses had changed human history from battlefield to farming to packing out in the West (Walter). People nowadays had really relied on a horse to let them, let things go that is on their minds and they are most spirited and kind-minded companions anyone can have (Walter).
Have you ever been in a situation where you didn’t think you could do it? Well I have many times and I’m going to write about a time during Rodeo when I didn’t think I was going to be able to do well in goat tying.
Horses have injured me, made me cry, made me swear, pissed me off until my breaking point, made me do stupid things, made me hate other people, made my heart break, put my heart back together, helped me when I was alone, been there when I did not need them, pushed me, made me work harder, faster and better than anyone else. They made me jealous, made me self-centered, made me happy, abused me, used me, tore me apart, healed me, helped me, loved me, protected me, made me laugh, helped me, put me down, made me a better person, made me want to help others. In every aspect of who I am, horses are there. They have made me the person I am today. If you like me, thank them, if you hate me well to
In November 2015, I finally walked up to Keeneland for the first time in my life to finally see a live horse race. But it wasn’t just any race – it was the 2015 Breeder’s Cup Championships and American Pharaoh would go on to win the Grand Slam. It was an awesome day, meeting people from all over the country who seemed just as passionate about a sport as I was. It was that experience that led me to move to Lexington, KY two months ago with a desire to work in the Thoroughbred industry.
On the horizon, the sun formed a P when its edge appeared to touch the top portion of the barn’s lightning rod. Beside the tack shed, there were tractor tracks, wagon tracks, footprints, paw prints, and at the barn’s right rear corner a rat left droppings in the snow.
Looking across the pastures and gently rolling hills of the farm, broken up into rectangles by barbed wire fences, I see dots of black where cows graze. Farther away in another pasture two spots of chestnut makeup horses, sleeping in the bright sun. Another horse, whose gleaming copper coat spotted with brown and white shines in the light, is slowly walking around his pasture looking for the perfect place to eat. I take a deep breath of rich air and smell the earthy scent of dirt, manure, and animals. Tall, green grass gently dances in the warm breeze. Birds flit across the sky, landing in the branches of large oak trees and a white cat creeps through the fescue, searching for her afternoon snack.
When I first got Ruby, she had never been touched and had run with a herd of broodmares. The first thing I had to do was halter break her so that I could get close enough to touch her. That was harder than I thought it would be. She was slow to trust me and had a strong sense
Horse is loss. Loss as in losing someone. For me, I lost my grandpa, papa, to cancer Three almost four years ago. He was a very hard working man. He owned his own electrical business, farmed land, and he also made time for his hobby of horses. He instilled my love for horses. I thought he was amazing, he traveled to North Dakota and Canada to show horses. He went so many times
Training horses for myself and others is not only a hobby for me, it is the main source of my collage fundraising. I have a desire to work with horses, exposing them to a whole array of experiences to make them broke enough to put kids, inexperienced riders, or top hands on. Living on a ranch gives me a unique chance to introduce a young horse to mountains, cows, tall brush, and branding pens. I also go to many 4-H riding practices and shows, where my horses are presented to large groups of unfamiliar equine’s as well as the arena setting. My mother owns a Ranching Heritage eligible horse that she would love to start showing, and being chosen for this program would be a fantastic opportunity to show my own horse with her for years to come.
If you’ve ever owned an animal, you know that being around them can be extremely therapeutic. After a stressful day at work or school, it is always nice to come home to your pet and feel comforted by them. Many dog owners even claim that their dogs can feel their pain. However, if you speak to anyone who has been spent their life around horses, they’ll tell you that the connection between horse and rider is unlike any other. Norwegian researcher Anita Maurstad explains in a recent article, that over time horse and rider can become so attuned to each other that they develop a state of co-being. Maurstad also found, through research, that horses appear to learn to relate to humans in ways that provide them with a good quality of life. A recent study from Washington State university has concluded that kids who work with horses have significantly lower stress levels. In addition to these, there have been numerous other studies that show that working with horses decreases blood pressure, reduced feelings of anger, tension, and anxiety. Riding horses also allows you to gain feelings of self esteem, empowerment, patience, and trust. Because of the overwhelming positive effects that horses seem to have, horses are no longer being used just for recreational or agricultural
Horses need friends, horses are designed to have other horses in there life. Horses need it for different types of help. Horses have human friends to if they don’t have another horse with them they will try to become friends with their owner, but they still won't stop hoping for a new friend there kind. Horses need a friend because of the love and if they don't get even a little of love they could die of
Bang my eyes opened as I leaped out of bed. I ran at full speed to my brother's room and woke Miguel up and screamed Happy Birthday to him. We went and changed and went on our iPads before our parents woke up. It was all a hurry as we looked like buzzing bees zooming through the house, at around 10 past 9 we ran out of the house full of eager and excitement. Sitting in the car, we drove along streets, highways and whinny roads but when I though we would ever make it to the horse riding we reached. I hopped out of the car ready to get on the Horse but realised the first group wasn't back yet. The three of us played basketball, got a helmet and got ready.
Horses have always had personal meaning to me. For me the horse symbolises strength, freedom and grace. The bond that is built between a horse and its rider is one of understanding and trust, the rider needs to trust the horse, but the horse also develops trust in the rider. This bond between animal and human is one that is shared and understood by all horse riders. While horses have no verbal communication, there is instead communication
Nothing makes me happier than saddling up a horse, getting on, and working my hardest. I’ve been horseback riding since i was about eight or nine years old, and it is my favorite, most enjoyable sport and hobby. Just by watching equestrians, many people think it is simple, and the horse does all the work while the rider does all the work, when in reality this is far from the truth. It is not a simple task to control an 800 pound animal, and just like humans, they have emotions and moods, so one must work with the horse through their slow days, their energetic days, and their days where they just do not want to listen at all. On top of getting the horse to go in the correct direction at the correct speed, the rider must pay attention to plenty
