Beyond your academic abilities, describe ONE attribute you bring to the nursing profession. Nursing is a profession that requires intellectual, emotional and physical strength. Nurses are revered for their compassion and grace during difficult situations that involve life and death. An attribute I bring to the nursing profession beyond my academic abilities is eagerness. I am eager to learn, eager to adapt, eager to grow, and eager to serve. I welcome and embrace challenge and change as both are occurrences in the healthcare field. Currently, I work as a CNA at the Good Samaritan Society Loveland Village. Through my experiences as a healthcare worker, I find that being eager to venture out of my comfort zone and take all the necessary steps
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) helped me to develop leadership skills in my nursing practice by utilizing the integration of nursing science, theories, and concepts with knowledge from ethics, the biophysical, psychosocial, analytical, and organizational sciences as the basis for the highest level of nursing practice. At the start of the DNP program, I was a clinical bedside nurse with limited skills as a nurse educator and leadership, now I feel I have achieved mastery in developing leadership skills as well as increased confidence in the use of evidence-based practice and research. Examples of critical events that have stimulated my growth in the program include the DNP project plan and the workshop implementation.
Going into college, I would like to peruse many of my goals. I would like to start out getting my general studies in and then build up to become a Registered Nurse. After I accomplish becoming a Registered Nurse I would like to work on becoming a Nurse Practitioner. One reason I am striving to complete these goals is to be able to have a good future and hopefully a good job will come out of this. Neither of my parents went to college and I want to be able to accomplish that for myself.
The profession of nursing is often looked at as taking care of sick people or treating physical well-being. Many do not realize that nursing encompasses so much more than that. It is very important to me to have a positive attitude that transfers to my coworkers and patients. I want to be committed to helping those in need and desire to be able to be a confident health educator. I think it is very important to use the knowledge I have in my area of expertise to instruct others where it is needed. I would like to be able to say I gave the highest quality of care that I could at the end of each day. I realize that not everything will always be perfect or smooth, and there is only so much I can do. However, many of the rough patches can be eased with hard work and a good outlook. I want to be able to form great relationships with my colleagues as well as the client and facilitate everyone working together. Nursing is a respectable profession and I hope to contribute my own compassion to the entire community.
When in the early stages of planning my life, I knew exactly what it was I inspired to do. I wanted to save lives. I did not know how I was going to complete that task at hand, but I knew that I was going to be saving someone’s life. So, starting nursing school was one of the jubilant moments of my life. I am ecstatic to be on my journey on becoming a well-rounded and educated nurse. Nursing is a profession that requires a great deal of care and knowledge of the human body and as a nurse I plan to be cultivated and discerning.
I'd like to share an example from my personal experience that illustrates nursing as an art. While working as a nursing assistant there was a patient who had just been newly admitted into the nursing home. This was his first time being a resident in a rehabilitation facility so he was very hesitant and scared. During his first day, he refused to let me take his vital signs. However, I noticed the uneasy look on his face and decided to talk to him further and discuss his fears. He explained to me that he'd gotten his blood drawn several times that day and didn't want to be stuck anymore. After getting an understanding of how he felt I was able to address his concerns and explain that there no needles involved in obtaining his vital signs.
Being a nurse is a very influential and rewarding profession. Nurses care for people through illness, pain, loss, and grieving. They not only care for people through the tough times, but they are also there through happiness and healing. Although the nursing profession is related to helping people, I believe that in order to become a well-rounded nurse, a person must have more than desire to succeed. It is essential for a nurse to be open, strong, determined, thoughtful and caring. These qualities will reflect on what kind of nurse you are because even though having knowledge is very important to this profession, it is also important to have compassion and exceptional bedside
The best feeling in the world to me is not going to sleep in my cozy bed after a long and exhausting day at school or work, it is not wiping off a full face of makeup or even cuddling up in a warm blanket after the cold, chilly winter nights. Sure those things are great but the feeling I get when I show any act of kindness is what I define as the best feeling in the world. Having the chance to impact the world, myself, and even my family, is what I have strived for my whole life. The chance to save lives, be there and care for people through illnesses, injury, pain or loss. Pursing a career in nursing is my ultimate goal. It is a profession that allows me to see people at their worst, all the while, helping them become their best.
My role as a nurse's aid at The Meadows of Kalida has been a meaningful job for the last three years. Working as a STNA has provided me the opportunity to work positively and compassionately with the residents, and develop my skills in the healthcare field. This is a fulfilling job because I enjoy helping residents the same way I will when I become a physical therapist. The individuals I assist, as well as fellow employees have shown me the meaning of life and selflessness. My work as a restorative aide has also given me first hand experience in the therapy department. I work with patients and support them as they complete physical exercises specified by the nurse. Since I am working towards becoming a therapist, this opportunity has provided
The attribute that I bring to the nursing profession is resilience. I have overcome domestic violence and brutality to chase down my goals.
Typically, early morning phone calls on your birthday bring well wishes and kind words from friends and family, but that has not always been the case for my wife. Just before seven o’clock A.M. on her twenty-fourth birthday our telephone rang. It was not an old friend singing happy birthday, or our friends that we had plans with later that evening. The voice on the other end of the line was her father delivering news that would change Lisa’s life forever. Her mother was being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. She had collapsed in the kitchen while cooking their breakfast. Judy remained unresponsive for one week and the decision was made to remove life support. She passed within hours of this decision, but the impact those few days had
This week, I witnessed a baby being born. One day later, I held a man’s hand as he took his last breath. Throughout these celebrations and tribulations, the admiration for the career of nursing flourishes within me. Strong, compassionate, determined, and empathetic are often adjectives used to express the qualities of a good nurse. Unlike many professions, nurses are unlikely to gain these traits just through textbooks and classwork alone. Our clinical experience evolves our thinking and skills into that of a true nurse. We are the forefront of patient care. Upon admittance, it is our duty to transform a patient's most vulnerable experience into one of comfort and care. Nursing is a career that is multifaceted. Changing lives and growing as
The nursing profession is dynamic and filled with opportunity. People have different reasons and motivations for seeking the nursing career out but the main reasons are the need to help others, to advocate for those who need a strong voice, and to care for the sick, aging and dying.
I worked as an observer for 4 weeks in the departments of Internal Medicine and Cardiology. This was the first time that I worked in US healthcare setting. It was an exhilarating experience as I got a sense of what I was striving for. Fresh out of medical school, interviewing patients, following up on their labs and coming up with a differential diagnosis was very exciting as I was experiencing the practical aspect of medicine for the first time. I also attended outpatient clinic, observed Angioplasty, Pacemaker Insertion, Echocardiography, Nuclear and Exercise Stress Testing. This observership strengthened my resolve of aiming for US Residency Training.
Nursing is not simply defined as ones ability to care for another, it is taking the balance of caring, knowledge and continued learning to create a lifeline for another. Im very proud to speak about my interest in such a demanding role but most importantly I'm excited about the journey this interest will take me on throughout my life.
Nursing is a profession that provides care, comfort and total support for the population that we care for. Nursing gives me the opportunity to be someone’s advocate, someone’s caregiver and some that patient could trust and rely their health on. I chose career in order to be involved with my community by being a supporting shoulder to someone in time of need. Nursing is always changing and thereby more opportunities to shape and
