Personal Narrative: Big Gompers Park

On Thursday 12/01/16 at 2236 hours I was dispatched to Terminal Park Elementary School located at 1101 D ST SE because four juveniles had knocked over a donation bin and were throwing rocks at the school (reference AP160088033). Dispatch advised it was possibly related to two other malicious mischief calls that had just previously occurred in the nearby area.

On 1/16/17 at 0225 hours my partner, Officer Thebeau #8402, and I were working patrol assigned to unit 3A11. We responded to a radio call of “shots fired” in the area of 814 N. Garfield Ave. The comments of the call stated, a 19 year old female was shot in the hand.

It was the day my family and I were going to Six Flags Over TEXAS.I love that place I go there all the time on my birthday. I love going on all the rides except the huge rides that can give you a heart attack like the Superman ride that can go about 80 miles an hour , the scary rides like the Joker that twists and turns and goes upside down , and the twisty rides like Catwoman whip P.S. don't go on it after you just ate.I only go on the rides that I know I won't fall off and break any of my bones.I know I’m a very safe person.

It was less than a second maybe half a second but it changed everything. I heard the ball hit against my bad with tons of power. Suddenly all I heard was the crowd cheering behind me and my team running up to me. I was dumbfounded did I really just hit a grand slam to win the World Series in the fourteenth inning? Tears rolled down my face as we all knew we just won the World Series for our team that hadn't won since 1908.

Freshly cut grass with a large diamond of dirt and the bottom surrounded by many bleachers. Fans packed outside waiting for the gates to be opened. And then there is a click, stadium workers open the gates and fans rush in with their hats, jerseys, posters, and more. The seats soon fill and the empty stadium turns into a packed one. The same happens everyday during baseball season at AT&T Park the home of the San Francisco Giants. For most this wasn’t their first time going to a baseball game but for me it was.

On October 28th, 2017 my mother said “here” and gave me $30. “What’s this for?” I asked. “$10 is for lunch and the other $20 is for you to go to Six Flags with your friends (Keion Flenoid, Kamaurion Stokes, and Kelly Dang.) after your chess tournament.” The next morning, my mother took me to my chess tournament where me and my team (Gateway Middle Chess club) placed fourth in the tournament.

One summer, my friends thought it would be a great idea to go to Six Flags. Me, I thought it was a dreadful idea. I don’t like rollercoasters at all, so I found no point in wanting to go. But, they insisted I go with the group for fun. So, here I was, scared of rollercoasters and on my way to Six Flags. Go figure.

The best sporting event that I have ever attended was a Chicago Cubs game that I went to with my family.

Ever since I was old enough to walk, I loved to play baseball. Baseball was the first true love of my life. I had always imagined myself playing in the big leagues along with Derek Jeter and all of the other big named players. I had the same fantasy along with every other ten year old boy that loved to play the sport of baseball. The only problem with my fantasy was a deal that I made to myself. I told myself," Dalton, if you don't hit an over-the-fence homerun, then you will not play in the big leagues."

As the crowd boos, you hear the New York Yankee commentator say “coming up to bat after a long year of suspension it’s the third basemen for the New York Yankees, Alex Rodriguez”. I grew up in awe watching great Yankee third basemen Alex Rodriguez. I remember playing baseball and trying to do everything he did, like how he chewed his gum, and how he wore his baseball socks. I would also imitate his batting stance as played. But all of a sudden the player I once looked up to tested positive for steroids.

For those who can’t recognize the disadvantages blacks have, any movement that call for equal rights and black mobility may be seen as an extreme action trying to cause conflict. For leaders who advocated for change like Malcolm X or Jesse Jackson were labeled in negative terms, but they were trying to obtain the same rights that whites have. In the case of Malcolm X, he said “We assert the right of self-defence by whatever means necessary, and reserve the right of maximum retaliation against our racist oppressors, no matter what the odds against us are” (Malcolm X, 747). What Malcolm X is advocating for reminds me of Sylvester Carrier actions in the movie Rosewood. Sylvester was viewed as an out of control black man with a gun during the shootout at his house. A Beautiful Day at Six Flags Either you run the day or the day runs you-Jim Rohn. This whole day to learn. It was a Beautiful August day my family decides to go to six flags. We went to go see if my friend, Weston, and Ellie's friend, Hope could come too. Weston was eleven, I was twelve, my sister was mine, and Hope was nine too. Turns out they were able to come and their mom came with us too. We drove for one hour and thirty minutes to get to six flags. We had to walk a long way to even get into line. When we finally got in line, In took us two minutes to get in because we had a stroller and went into that line which is always faster than if you do not have a stroller. As soon as we got into the park, We all bolted straight for Raging Bull. When we got there, we had to wait in line for about twenty minutes. When we finally got up to the ride, we got on with the girls. The parents went off talking and told us to check in when we were done with the ride. We all went on the ride the first time, we had a challenge for us and the girls. It was to not hang on to any part of the roller coaster for the whole time. and enjoyed it so much we managed to sneak on the ride again. We all filled in the empty seats. We did this another six more times. In total for that moment, we went on that ride seven times. We gathered everyone up and started to walk down from the ride. We were all talking about how crazy that was that we were able to get on that ride seven times. When we were at the

The sun was glistening through the tall, swaying pines. To the right of the trail, a gentle river flowed softly down towards the mouth of the lake. Walking across the rickety wooden bridge, I inhaled a deep breath of refreshingly crisp mountain air. The sun beat down on me as I made my way across the bridge and back onto the well-used hiking trail. The ambient sounds of chirping birds, babbling water, and the croaks of several frogs filled my ears as I made my way around the bend. As I entered the mouth of the forest, I could see my father standing in the middle of the path, glancing upwards, taking in the beauty that had began to engulf us. “We better get going.” he said, looking back at me. “There’s still many miles to go.” I smiled and turned, taking in one last view of the beautiful creekside. Then, with determination, we set out to finish the challenging trek we had started.

The park is place we like to go when we want to relax. The park is an obvious place of escaping the constraints of the life around us. People are walking around the trail, children playing on the playground, and the place generally seems to be at a more relaxed place in the park. My visit to the park was one that I thought would reveal a certain level of peace. It did.
