I joined a team during my freshman year that marches, or more appropriately, stomps to its own beat: varsity Step Team. The team performs at halftime during varsity basketball games using sounds created from clapping and stopping. Having been enrolled in dance classes since preschool, Step Team was a way for me to expand upon dance principles, while also stepping out of my comfort zone.
I became Captain of the Step Team during my junior year: an opportunity to develop leadership and encourage teamwork. As Captain, it is my responsibility to provide artistic and creative direction when designing the routines and formations, coordinate practices, manage team communication, and recruit members. While music is not traditionally incorporated into
I believe that everyone lives life in a different ways. There isn’t a certain way to follow in life. You have to make life fun and live it to the fullest. Whether it be by yourself or with somebody you love. To me I don’t think anyone should be individual their whole life. Everyone should have somebody male/ female that they can be happy with. Life is full of surprises and it throws new things at us every day.
Starting high school can be a little scary, especially when you have no guidance from siblings, like me, being the first one from my family to have an education. But that did not stop me from succeeding, I?ve always been confident and determined. I?m an enthusiastic when it comes to trying new things. Who would have thought I was going to be a good athlete plus a book geek, when in my past years I was just a regular kid. I was pretty excited about joining a club that had a connection with high school, that way I didn?t have to start from zero, I always want to be a step ahead. Fortunately, in summer, a high school coach was recruiting freshmen for running either cross country or track, they both involve running, so I considered it like the same sport with different timing. And this is when it all started. Running
When I first saw we had to read a book for this class, I was not that happy about it. However, this book was so fascinating to read, and I learned more than I thought I would. The beginning of the book freaked me out because Kolbert mentions that we’re in the middle of a mass extinction. I couldn’t wrap my mind around the thought of the human race becoming extinct. Every time I think about that, I always remember that documentary/movie called Life without People we watched in eighth grade. For her to talk about how the human race isn’t as superior as we think is eye opening. Also, it was surprising to learn that Kolbert was a journalist, and that she wasn’t some scientist. It showed me that you don’t have to limit yourself to just one thing. She took her field of journalism and paired it with a journey to find out what is happening to the Earth.
“30 minutes on the clock!” everyone around us had mostly nothing done. All I knew was we were in good shape for this competition. Everyone around the North Shore team had almost nothing done. North shore team number 2 went to the board to present their MSOE hydraulic crane. They ended up scoring a massive amount of points. Everyone was cheering them on. “Next up, North shore middle school team 1.”
I stepped on to the field, On a hot summer day. It was seven in the morning, I was tired, but ready to play. We all proceeded to the locker room, with no warning.
To start off, in high school, I was the captain of Football, Basketball, and Track. As captain I am held to a higher standard because the other athletes are looking up to me. That being said, if some one was messing around or not doing something right, it was my position to help coach them to do the right thing, work extra hard on the next play, or whatever it may be.
compared to my simple abilities that I was sure today would not be the best
Happy Tuesday! I just wanted to send over a note of thanks for taking the time to speak to me yesterday on the phone. After our conversation, and my Skype call with Kirby I truly believe with my experience in handling food & beverage, lifestyle, talent and entertainment clients coupled with my strong media relationships across those fields I would be an asset to the Joneswork team.
Very excited to be back on the team. I hope you are also enjoying the spring holidays. Classes are getting knocked out easily. I do have a question, I forget what time my day started. I usually showed up when Graham arrived.
“Please, don’t go.” My best friend since middle school was asking me to do the one thing I couldn’t. “If you leave now, you won’t be captain of the tennis and debate teams. Come on man, we’ve been dreaming about this for years,” he pleaded. “Sorry, I can’t miss this. Besides, we’ll always keep in touch,” I replied while trying not let my voice catch.
Cheerleading I had served as one of the first and youngest cheerleading captain representing my high school in our joint Cheerleading team with our sister school. My background in music composition and dance as well as my dedication led me to earn my title as rookie of the year as well as prompted my promotion to co-captain and later captain. As a leader, with the help of my coach,I have brought together my high school with our sister school, increased student participation and have developed my skills as a leader by stepping out of my comfort zone and learning from my mistakes. From my experience as a cheerleader not only have I learned how to lift up a team spirit, but I redefined the typical definition of what it means to be a cheerleader
Is my judge ready? Is my opponent ready? Resolved: Most meaningful extracurricular activity: Debate, no contest. During my first years in High School, I was afraid of public speaking because I did not anyone to notice my English accent. However, when I joined my school Debate team, somehow I forgot about my accent to start focusing on a passion that I did not know I had. I love to be the voice of my school, I love to wear professional clothes, I love to win debates, but what I love the most is not to allow my fears preventing me from doing what I love to do.This year, as the Co - captain debate, I challenged my teammates to know that the only “opponent” we have is our own fears. I love to debate because as I learned to defend my arguments and
It all started when i was in fourth grade. It all changed what inspired me came by whole big dream that i wanted to be successful at. I was at school just a normal day, and it was times to go to PE, and my coach got out a circular ball that i had never seen in my life. It was kinda colorful, it had some weird word written on it, but i couldn't see from where i was standing. My coach handed us each one of these balls, and coach called them volleyballs. My coach told us what to do and what not to do, so i was at this net, and just gave the ball a high five because that's what he said to do. Coach came over to me, and kinda directed me through and told me it was called a serve. That day i went home thinking about it, and i decided i want to do
Since my freshman year, volleyball has become not only a sport but a passion. My immediate love for this sport resulted in a transition from an amateur beginner to team captain of the JV team and ultimately to team captain of the Varsity team. As captain, I lead the girls and regularly assist the coach by directing practices and drills that will perfect skills and promote outstanding performance. At a recent regional holiday invitational tournament, our team received an award for our exceptional performance. I consistently remind teammates that volleyball is a mental game as much as it is a physical game, helping each player to develop the mental stamina that is necessary for victory. Demonstrating outstanding plays on the court, I always attempt
As captain, I work alongside the coach to help run the practices and teach routines to the rest of the squad. Over the summer, I also organized two fundraising activities including a Sweet Frog Day and a tag day at our local Giant Eagle to help fray the cost of our anual spring band trip. In addition, I also plan to have a majorette clinic this fall for elementary students who have an interest in twirling. I believe I am a good leader because I am honest, dependable, approachable, motivated and always willing to provide extra assistance and
