After coming home from school, my neighbor and I watched TV on the couch together and I began to feel thirsty. Luckily, my neighbor was so invested with the TV show that I was able to walk over to my freezer and place an EyesKube into my drink. My cup was colored and not transparent so my neighbor never even noticed.
My mom came home from work and got dinner ready for us. However, before she came home I put a cooler of EyesKubes in a closet near my bathroom. I insisted that I needed to watch my hands before dinner. She asked me why I needed to bring my drink with me to the bathroom and I told her that I was extremely thirsty. She was suspicious, but was not able to hear or see me place the EyesKube in my drink.
My mom fell asleep an hour

I realized that I never refilled my cooler before I went to bed or when I woke up so I thought I would be doomed. However, before we starting eating my mother needed to restroom. She was unable to hear me open the freezer this time as I placed an EyesKube once again in my drink.
I went to my cousins house for a birthday party so before I left my house, I found a thermostat mug to be able to put my ice into when I went to my cousins. Since I was driving alone I was also able to bring my cooler with me and keep it in the car. My family looked at me weirdly when I brought a thermostat mug into the house, but I tried to put attention on something else. When I was thirsty, I ran out to the car unnoticed and put EyesKubes in my mug. When family members asked what I was drinking, I said it was coffee.
My friend asked me to hang out once I got home from my cousin’s house. My mother left the house to run errands so I refilled the cooler and put it back in car before heading to my friends house. As soon as I walked into his house, my friend asked why I brought my mug with me. He thought it was unusual because I never bring it anywhere. I told him it was coffee as well, but he didn't believe me. I told him I forgot my keys in the car so that I could put my EyesKubes in my drink. When I walked back inside he took my mug and saw water inside with my EyesKubes. I knew that I was
I haven’t been alive for too long and I’ve lived a pretty normal life though I do know of one specific event that changed me forever. On January 12 2010 I came home from school like every other kid in Haiti. It was a completely normal day. My mom was cooking in the kitchen, my aunt was holding my little sister while watching TV, my dad wasn’t home yet and I was by myself in the living room playing games on my dad’s computer. Then out of nowhere I hear a deep low loud rumbling noise. Right when I start to wonder what the noise was, the shaking starts. Being a normal eleven year old kid I just sat there in shock and fear and just watched as my whole world came crashing down around me. Paintings, vases silverware, my moms china set, they were
After eating me and my cousins were playing hide-and-seek. We had played three rounds and then took a break. After we played again. My cousin was it,she started counting,we went to go hide on the other side of the house. She took so long we went to go see what she was doing.
For me, that would be a very unfortunate situation. I absolutely love milk, and I drink more than I should. My go to drink is chocolate milk or hot chocolate. I have hot chocolate at least twice a week, and have plain ol’ chocolate milk at least three, if not more. It doesn’t help that I have a collection of Disney mugs that I love to use, and what perfect drink to put in them besides hot chocolate. Milk is of very high need in my life, and my world would be stygian without it. Don’t get me wrong though, I enjoy root beer too. However, I drink root beer abstemiously. I think the only time I ever drink it is when I’m looking for something fizzy to drink, and it’s the only pop in our house. There are also occasions when my mom brings home little
On the way home I thought about asking Soda about my essay. I knew Soda would tell me that “it was perfect and that I was so smart”, Darry would say “it needs more information”. When I walked into the house Soda had a weed and a letter in his hand, I thought to myself “It’s very strange for Soda to smoke.” He only smokes when he needs to calm his nerves. When i looked at his face closer he looked happy but mad. I asked “What’s wrong.” He didn’t reply, so I sat down next to him and the letter was from Sandy! The letter said “ Hello Soda i’ve missed you.” “There is something very important that i should have told you a long time ago.” “ I lied when I found out that I was pregnant I was so happy but, I thought that it would hold you back from being you.” That’s when I decided to move to Florida. “ I made you believe that the baby was someone else’s when it’s actually yours.” Right now your baby girl is five months old.” “ Soda i’m really sorry for any pain I caused but, if you want to see her I will give you the money for you and your brothers to come see her.” “ From Sandy.” Soda quickly crumbled up the paper and ran out the door. Shortly after that Darry was home from school.
I grew up at a Deaf residential school. For most of the time I slept there at the dorm. We –they had a night supervisor who also slept on site. Aww, she was such a very sweet old women. She retired at her old job and got a new job here at the Deaf residential school where I was staying. It was four of us girls she would watch. Nine-nine-thirty the lights were out. But at midnight, me and my three roommates decided we’d meet at- meet up. So I waited till midnight. I kept looking at my clock- is it time, is it time? And then the clock struck midnight. Me and my friends we met up. One of the girl had a boyfriend who came back from Canada. He had bought a whole sack of c-f- firecrackers when he was there. They’re not allowed here in the states but he bought them anyway.
My whole family goes on our annually family camping trip to Island Park. When we got to the camping spot my mom talked to my grandma about how I was losing weight, drinking a great amount of water, and was continuously tired. My mom and grandma watched me for a couple days. I was not feeling well so my mom took me to my aunt Rita’s camper. When I got there she gave me a frozen yogurt, and a dry peanut butter jelly
When I was 13 years old, my parents started to think about moving to United States because my dad was already working here for a company. We started all the immigration related process which took a while to end. When I was 14, one day I came back from school and my parents told me we were moving to US in 2-3 months. When I heard it first, I was happy, but later I started thinking about how I will be leaving everything behind. My family, friends and neighbors whom I have been with since I was little, I will be leaving all of them in a few months. As the date approached closer, we started to pack more and more things. There was
It was just a normal, hot summer, that day. After debating what activity my family and i should do we chose something simple. Shaved Ice. Where we live there wasn’t much. There were a few stores, a small crummy park, and a small portion of so called restaurants. However there was one great thing about this community...Hobo Joe’s. Hobo Joe’s is a small shaved ice truck. It was ran by a family that had been selling shaved ice for quite some time. Their shaved ice was the best because one, it was super cheap, and two, they always added a large amount of flavoring.
Several drinks later the frustrations that had been coursing throughout my veins had ceased and were replaced with a sense of tranquility. The dispute between Audrina and me had been forcefully driven to the back of my conscience mind. I could vaguely hear the low hums from the granite countertop, but I was trying with every ounce of strength to remove the agitation from my ears. Audrina was fuming at the ears; she was in no mood to talk kindly to or about me at this point. I had never fully grasped her concept or hatred towards my drinking; I just knew she incandescently angered by it. Any chance she got the chance she would ramble with no end about the ‘negative repercussions’ that I would have to face. She would always go on about how my addiction had no benefactors for my body or my mind. She would always have this small crease that
On September 5th 2016 I got backed into by a car. It was labor day and my best friend Reiley, her brother Wes and I were going to the beach to use sparkles to celebrate labor day and after I was to sleepover their house and go to freshman orientation. This day happened to be Reiley’s dad’s birthday and earlier that morning her great aunt passed away so it was already an eventful day. We drove to the beach and jammed hardcore to irreplaceable by Beyonce. Once we got to the beach we all got out of the car Reiley was driving, Wes was in the back seat and I was in the front seat I playfully hit Wes and then we started walking to the beach Reiley had run ahead because a minivan was backing up leaving Wes and I behind. Nothing was unordinary until
One day in March, my friend, sister, and I were walking home from Plain City Elementary. We decided to stop at Maverik on the way home. We crossed the parking lot, inhaling the pungent smell of gasoline. We were all parched, so we headed for the drink section. After looking there for a while, we meandered our way over to the gum and candy aisle. This is where the story gets weird.
As you know I’m on a quest to review every brewery in Florida. Unfortunately, a large portion of the Sunshine State isn’t exactly conducive for a day trip to check out breweries. For example Tallahassee has five breweries, but is a five hour and forty-five minute drive for me. So when one of my favorite Florida breweries invited me up for the 5th Annual Florida Tap Invitational held in our state capitol of Tallahassee I was ecstatic. The Proof Brewing Company started the craft beer craze in Tallahassee when they opened their doors in 2012. A year later the husband and wife team of Byron and Angela Burroughs came up with the brilliant idea to have a festival based solely around Florida breweries. Now that’s a great idea, but to push the
On a fall night around 3:00A.M. my friend and I were just getting on campus from a night out. We got back to my room and realized that it was really hot because the heat was on, so we decided to put on our bathing suits and go outside. After venturing outside into the cold my friend had the “great” idea to go for a swim in the fountain. Of course I was the first to jump into the icy water and I dragged my friend in shortly after. It was so cold, we instantly jumped out but then all of a
When I was three years old, I got my first pair of glasses. Convinced that I could see, I reluctantly went to the optometrist with my mom, and did my best to be as uncooperative as possible. This continued until the optometrist brought out a shiny blue ring and said that I could have it if I did well on all of my tests. I was determined to get the ring. At the optometrist, they provide pictures for young children to identify, in place of letters. My mother tells me that I said that an airplane was a birthday cake. Needless to say, I needed glasses, badly. Later that week, I went home with a brand new pair of pink circular glasses. When I got home I was shocked to learn that there were lines in the grass. Now it is fourteen years later, and
Freezing sweet corn is one of my memorable childhood traditions. After the corn grew ripe, our family would plan the sweet corn date making sure everyone could make it. When the day finally came to do the sweet corn, Dad would yell up the stairs for all of us kids to come down. I woke up, and as I dressed I could see outside was still enclosed in a sleepy darkness. My dad drove his old red work truck that smelled of motor oil and old dust. It was a regular cab so the four of us kids fit along the one side of the bench seat; our shoulders were too wide to fit side by side so we had to overlap. Since I was the littlest, about 7 years old, and the only girl I was overlapped on both sides, but I wasn’t awake enough to complain.
