Throughout my life, there have been many people to come into my life and do such good things for me. The one person who really sticks out to me by willingly doing great things in my life John Carter, also known as, Coach Carter. He is a very selfless person ad always makes sure that he educationally pours into someone every day. Coach Carter started an organization called, “The Turner 12”. That organization is a college bound/ prep and leadership organization that takes twelve students and exposes each student to the wonders of going to college and having a career in something you love. I joined this organization in the seventh grade and I have been a part of it ever since. He has shown me over the years that showing a love for education
Leaping up out of his soft, comfy bed, Biff Carter couldn’t have been more prepared for that night. Throwing on his football jersey, pushing his long blonde hair back, and brushing his perfect white teeth, Biff raced downstairs and grabbed an apple and a banana for breakfast - an ideal breakfast for a huge game day. Once at school, Biff could hardly sit still, constantly violently shaking his leg and consistently tapping his pencil. Tonight was the big football championship - the first time in twenty years that the team has been to the championships. Once in third period, administration made the announcement on the intercom to dismiss the football team to the buses. Finally the football team made it to Miami, visiting the tremendous football
One big fight. Coach says he won’t coach a thug team that fights and can’t handle themselves. His name is Coach Buddy Stephens. The last Chance university kids go there maybe because of academics or maybe fell off the grid and want to come back for another chance. Everyone goes Division 1 and who ever doesn’t make it will be disappointed. Mrs. Brittney Wagner the academic advisor comes in and helps the players graduate and have the grades to not drop out of college or classes they can’t afford to drop out of so they can play football. Now comes John Franklin III He is a transfer from Florida St. He ran track there and played football. But he dropped out of school because of academics and he didn’t want to be there anymore so he came to Emcc
It was any other Ole Miss basketball game. I had gotten my box of popcorn and a huge, cold, fizzy coca-cola. I was in the same seat I always was, between my sister and my dad, and I had the same humongous guy sitting right in front of me. Even though I was only 7 and wasn’t actually sure what was going on, I still wanted to see what was happening! Of course, I wasn’t going to ask this person to move, I had no idea who he was but, that didn’t last much longer.
Its Harrison Mckinlay Again and as the indoor track season has come to a close and outdoor track is beginning to start up i figured i would give you and update As of one week ago I did decide to attend Bryant university.
Back in the eighth grade, this man was just a coach to me. Over the following four years, Coach Melin became a significant person in my life. Bruce Melin, a seventy-year-old man, stood about five foot ten. He had an ever-lasting contagious smile. Also, he wore glasses and you could always find him wearing some type of sabre track apparel. This devoted man spent numerous hours down at the track devoting his time to young athletes like myself. He had quotes and jokes of the day that gave the sprinters some motivation before practice. Coach Melin has left a lasting impact on me.
Hi I’m former president Carter. My birthday is October 1st 1924. I was born in the beautiful plains of Georgia. As of Today I’m 92 years old. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother. There names are Gloria, Ruth, and Billy Carter. Let me start with my childhood, as a kid I sold peanuts. As I sold them I made friends. Not all of them were kids some were adults but I was ok with that.
Theoretical Perspectives in “Coach Carter” Issues in the home, the school, and the area have set a critical allotment of American adolescents at danger. Young people considered at hazard are the individuals who participate in risky behavior, for example, drug abuse, liquor use, and developed sexuality. A technical term “At-risk youths” (Siegel & Welsh, 2011, p. 3) is defined as that undeveloped people who are exceedingly exposed to the unenthusiastic results of school failure, substance abuse, and premature sexuality. This term is not directly related to the movie, Coach Carter (2005), but the audiences recognize those contents about juvenile delinquent activities in the movie and are naturally able to achieve the knowledge about the seriousness
The person that had the biggest impact on turning me into who i am today was my middle school coach.
“Come on guys,” I yelled. I heard the screech of the referee’s whistle. Rushing to the bench, I heard the referee call out “Timeout, Heat.” Everything was on the line and our team’s championship hopes, being foremost on our team’s minds, was all coach could scream about. “I’m not going to tell you how to play basketball,” he yelled out. “That’s your job. I’m just going to say that right now, to us, this is a championship game. If we win this, we move on to the championship. If not, at least let us fall valiantly.” That got the whole team riled up as we rushed back onto the court. The crowd, encouraging as always, yelled out their approval on the fact that we were giving it our all. With just sixteen seconds left in the game and our team down by four, something special had to happen or we were done for the season.
I fell in love with basketball 7 years ago. What began as a few trial trainings gradually grew into a deep passion for the sport. I realized that I had the flair for it as doing moves like layups came to me very naturally. All I had to do was to observe my coach do an example once, practice the move a few times, and I got it.
Coach Carter also displays transformational leadership. Transformational leadership is the ability of a leader to get people to do more than they originally expected to do in support of large scale innovation and change; the leader inspire and excite followers to high level of performance (Nelson & Quick, 2013). According to Marquis & Huston (1992), there are five key qualities of a transformational leader. One of the qualities is having the passion and ability to inspire. Transformational leaders show passion in their work and have the capacity to pass this passion on to others. Coach Carter is successful in achieving this through setting clear expectations and demonstrates passion when doing this. At their first team meeting, Carter hands each student a contract, setting out his expectations of the contracts. If they do not sign and follow it, they do not play. Coach Carter aims to pass on his passion to the players enabling them to succeed in playing sports and succeed in their education. Another quality transformational leaders possess is the ability to pass their values on to others. According to Marquis & Huston (1992), people admire leaders that support their own values and beliefs by enabling others to understand how their own values make them who they are. Coach Carter encourages a team ethic throughout. Carter ensures his team takes this on board by stopping everyone from playing – academic achiever or not. He’s teaching that successful teams succeed because of
It all started when i was in fourth grade. It all changed what inspired me came by whole big dream that i wanted to be successful at. I was at school just a normal day, and it was times to go to PE, and my coach got out a circular ball that i had never seen in my life. It was kinda colorful, it had some weird word written on it, but i couldn't see from where i was standing. My coach handed us each one of these balls, and coach called them volleyballs. My coach told us what to do and what not to do, so i was at this net, and just gave the ball a high five because that's what he said to do. Coach came over to me, and kinda directed me through and told me it was called a serve. That day i went home thinking about it, and i decided i want to do
Basketball was a new experience to me a few years ago, but i never realized I was going to love it. When I was younger, I’ve always wanted to play the sport of basketball, and I got my opportunity to play when I was in fifth grade at Monte Vista Elementary.
The summer of 2013, I met the man that would one day change the exterior of the hard-core existence I once lived in. A man that new little to nothing about me assured me that life would get better through conditioning. Walking around with the world on your shoulders is a tough aspect to live with. I often asked myself why this was my life. Why could it not be much easier like my neighborhood friends or schoolmates? Summer of 2013, a man changed me.
His teaching styles were very unintentional but you could tell what he was doing. Since he had experienced a similar situation when he was once on a team, he had wanted to give his team a different form of coaching that they wouldn’t have had expected at Richmond High School. Coach Carter did a very exquisite job at portraying these learning styles, knowing that there could have been consequences to a certain amount. It was gratifying to see that Coach Carter would do anything for his team, win or lose, he wanted them to come out successful and at least learn something even if it was a
