Minnesota Madness
Have you ever been to Minnesota? Well, if not I’ll tell you about my experience in the state of 10,000 lakes. First of all the reason me and my family went to minnesota, was for a fishing trip my dad got as a christmas present last christmas. We went with my dad's friend, and his friend’s family. We left two days after me and my brother got back from Iowa, during July. I didn’t know how the weather was going to be so I didn’t really know what to pack.
After I got through the struggle of packing a bunch of randomness it was time for the tedious car ride. I slept half the way there and looked out the window at all the new roads and landmarks. We drove for seven hours, but then decided to stop and get some rest in buffalo minnesota.
We both get ready for the long car ride ahead by going down to the main room for breakfast. After filling ourselves with a $190 dollar meal we get all our things ready and start up our hippie van. Austin was really set on going to the Cheyenne Depot Plaza, so that's was where we stopped for lunch. It was an interesting place, I was awestruck by some of the art and how well kept the place looked. Once again we started on our way out of the Dodge City. Once we were on the outside of the city, we took Happy Jack Road to see all the massive wind mills in all directions.
We never drove farther west than Iowa. Going to Wyoming was something my brothers and I were looking forward too. Talking about all the activities we will be doing and places we will be stopping at made us more excited. It got me wishing we were going that day, but I knew we had to wait a couple a weeks. Waiting was the worst part of the trip. I could not focus on anything besides getting ready for the trip. As those long weeks came by we finally were packed to go. It was 4 a.m. and my parents were packing the car and telling us to bring everything out. We decided to take the minivan, so there was plenty of space. My older brother always got the back seats to himself so he had his bags back there with him. My
When we were leaving to Maryland, I was sad to leave my dog but we had no choice. Our trip to Maryland was about 12 hours long but we took about 14 or 15 hours. We left at 3 in the afternoon, and we did get lost a few times but we had a GPs. We passed by Ohio and it was so long. We also passed by Columbus and it was beautiful. We passed by a lot of cities. When we were in West Virginia my dad almost ran over a drunk man and he even looked to see if there were any cars but he just walked! The ride was so long but my brother and I couldn't sleep, all 4 of us pulled an all nighter.
It was the furthest we had ever traveled to go somewhere. The first 7 hours felt like forever since it was all just highway and nothing to see but trees until we passed by Richmond Virginia which was a city we had never seen. It looked very historical just by passing through it on I-95. We later continued on and stumbled upon Washington D.C, Baltimore, and later on to Philadelphia. After about 13 hours we started getting very close to our destination. My family and I were very anxious to finally get to our hotel. It was about 11 pm when started seeing massive skyscrapers lit up by their inner lights. To my amazement, it was my first time seeing New York City.
Being raised in Northern Michigan there is many bodies of water all around but living a few hundred feet from this magnificent lake has taught me more than I ever thought I could learn from a simple body of
Well, technically, it’s 11,842 lakes, or even 15,291 if you’re counting lake basins. All these lakes result in almost two hundred thousand miles of shoreline (if you include rivers). This is more shoreline than all the shoreline of California, Hawaii, and Florida combined, according to a comprehensive study, by a hardworking and smart Minnesotan. All these lakes are great for swimming, boating, waterskiing (a Minnesotan invention), and even ice fishing in the winter. They provide a great location for cabins, or places to escape from the city on those few hot days. Even celebrities, like Julia and Emma Roberts have come to stay at these lakes occasionally. Minnesota’s insane number of lakes provide entertainment for all ages and
I was in awe at the sight of the beautiful lakes and the bright green trees. It took us about 5 hours to exit Minnesota and finally enter Wisconsin. See my family likes to stop at any little shop on the way when i’d rather just get the show on the road. The sights of huge hills filled with flowers and the sounds of the birds flying all around me. It took us about 45 minutes to get to the dells once we entered Wisconsin.
This personal essay is going to be on my crazy drive to Vermont. Well it all started off with my cousin Max waking me up at 7:00 am.
Minutes to get there, and the whole 30 minutes was boring. I was ready to sleep; I was also super hungry, I was so excited I was about to burst. I had a fear about a few rides, but i didn’t let it overcome me.
Welcome to Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes. Here, we are Minnesota nice. Minnesota is filled with a large diversity of people. It is home to the tall-tale Paul Bunyan and borders the great lake, Lake Superior. What is there to do here in Minnesota one may ask? Well, the list is endless it ranges from a relaxing day of fishing at up north right off of the Lake Superior, water tubing down the river with friends and enjoying the scenery, to watching live performances at the Orpheum Theatre.
A few days before the trip, my dad, my sister Nina, and I, had done some research and added up the cost of the trip and looked for hotels and restaurants to visit during the time we were there and on our road trip. After about an hour of research on Chicago, we had our plan of what to do for our time in Chicago. That night, It was difficult to fall asleep, although I wasn’t surprised I usually didn’t fall asleep right away before a vacation, I’m usually too excited.
I used to quote Henry David Thoreau when my parents scolded me for scribbling on tables, walls, even myself. “This world is but a canvas to our imagination,” I said, not understanding the meaning of the quote. In 2008, the scolding ceased when I won my first art prize: a Third Premium in the K-12 art competition at the Minnesota State Fair. Ignoring the food, rides, and ponies, I combed the galleries for my masterpiece. I found it in the corner: a drawing of a lopsided elephant and a ribbon. For the rest of the day, I sauntered through the displays, convincing myself that my work matched the quality of others’. After all, I was a winner. The Grand Prize display stopped me, but not for long. My winning-induced arrogance convinced me that earning
Later on that month, we all met at my grandparents house. We packed the van so full that we were not sure we would all fit in. Nonetheless, we all fit and started our trip to Gatlinburg. I was so excited, I was not sure that I could contain myself until we arrived.
First, let's focus on the psychotic disorder of schizophrenia. One of the major symptoms of schizophrenia is “negative symptoms”. Within that category for the last two weeks (and if truth be told a lot longer than that), is emotional flatness. I do not get overly excited nor do I get overly stressed about any situation that the response should be within the realm of anxious, fearful, sad, etc. For example, in the last two weeks I have had two times in which I was asked to speak in front of a group of people for school. The first time was a communication class where I was asked to give a 4-6 minute presentation to the class of 25 people. Of course, all people were nervous when going up to speak and they made the usual mistakes of using
I woke up in my bedroom with the sun right on my face. I looked at the clock, hearing sounds of the jazz on the streets. It was 5:00 in the morning. I WAS LATE!!! My flight is at 6:00. I started dressing. After forty minutes, I was on the airplane drinking coffee and trying to catch my breath after that rush. I slept for nine hours on the airplane.
