It was a warm April day with clouds hanging and storms on the horizon. School had just gotten out, and everybody was rushing home so they could start their weekend plans. For most people that included prom, but me and my friends had different plans, which included going out to eat on Friday night. On the way to the restaurant, me and Sara were talking about how my excitement was building in anticipation of receiving my drivers license and talking about our difficult homework. We walked in about five minutes late to see Logan, our host, and the table with all of our friends waiting for us. The bright colors of Tequila’s were dimmed down because of the lights being low. Paintings of the Mexican landscape were scattered about the large, but cozy
My relationship with drugs first began during my senior year of high school. While most of my peers attended their first parties years earlier, my first was not until I was already 17 years old. I still remember feeling so cool for attending my first party and having my first sip of alcohol. The feeling of being drunk was unlike anything I had ever felt before. I felt liberated, like I could break out of my quiet shell and be that fun, goofy person that everyone wanted to hang out with. Prior to this night I had never used any type of substance, legal or illegal. Since then I have continued using alcohol while also trying various different types of drugs including caffeine, marijuana, tobacco, and adderall.
Tequila was actually first known as Mezcal wine but in order to distinguish between the different Mezcal wines in south mexico, it was named “tequila” because this particular wine came from Tequila, Jalisco. This regional Mezcal wine known as “tequila” was made from the Blue Agave Plant surrounding the city of Tequila. These plants could also be found northwest of the Guadalajara and in the highlands of Los Altos. Shortly after tequila became its official name, Mexico began mass producing and exporting bottles of tequila to the United States via El Paso, Texas and New Mexico. Then in 1911, due to the Mexican Revolution and an increased sense of patriotism, tequila became the most popular drink in Mexico. Doctors even began prescribing Tequila,
April 20th started out like any other school day which I particularly dreaded. The worst days of your life, well, you don’t realize them at first. Even when the sun is shining or it’s raining. You can never see the miracles or horror that may unfold. I hadn’t realized how badly I would dread this day.
Last night, a good friend went to the local beverage/supermarket mega store to buy for a holiday party he and his wife are hosting this weekend. Ten minutes in, he was on the phone calling me to help talk him “off the ledge”, while he was in the Tequila row, of all places! Here’s a snapshot of our call, which started with a blaze of rapid-fire questions…
Yes! You read that correctly. Drinking Tequila can be good too. It can help you lose weight. This is according to the 2014 study of the American Chemical Society (ACS), It was found on the study that the sugar found in the plant that makes tequila could have lower blood glucose levels for people who have type two diabetes, and it is also tested to help people lose weight.
The United States has always seen political disputes between both ends of the liberal/conservative spectrum. However, this polarization has increased significantly within the past few decades. As the graphs show, there has been a noteworthy rise among “consistently liberals” and “consistently conservatives” since 1994. In addition, the placement of “median” Republicans or Democrats on the spectrum have distanced themselves farther apart (Pew Research Center). This is the ultimate gap visible within the entire entity of polarizing politics. Republicans and Democrats are becoming further apart, thus creating a lack of understanding and compromise between the two parties.
It was another monotonous, scorching summer Friday. We had burgers and hot dogs on the grill sizzling and calling our taste buds. Then we had finished supper. Dad had a gig at Hudson Booster Days later that night. We went back outside to shoot some hoops. Jonah, Hannah, Eli, and I played a pickup basketball game and then got bored again. We went in to cool off a little and took a little break.
The game would start promptly at seven and for the first time in our school history there was going to be a packed house. Alumni returned home for the big event and people took the day off from work to through tailgating parties and had most of the school busses canceled. There was little need with parents already at the school and dinner would be a group activity. I wasn’t left out of the festivities and had helped Mrs. McGuire prepared enough food that had me drooling and losing my appetite at the same time. I had hoped my parents would show up, but I knew that was impossible. There was one thing above all that gave me the biggest hint how wonderful that Friday was going to
The article “ A Classroom of One is a Community of Learners: Paradox, Artistic Pedagogical Technologies, and the Invitational Online Classroom” shines a light on how students in an online classroom can experience the feeling of being in a traditional classroom. Online learners often feel separated and alone and find themselves easily distracted without a traditional teacher in front of them. To improve that problem the educators must develop an online curriculum that encourages social interaction between the students and teachers causing them to build an online relationship. This curricula must create and invitational classroom that prevents student isolation, lack of accountability, and the perspective that the online learning environment
Several drinks later the frustrations that had been coursing throughout my veins had ceased and were replaced with a sense of tranquility. The dispute between Audrina and me had been forcefully driven to the back of my conscience mind. I could vaguely hear the low hums from the granite countertop, but I was trying with every ounce of strength to remove the agitation from my ears. Audrina was fuming at the ears; she was in no mood to talk kindly to or about me at this point. I had never fully grasped her concept or hatred towards my drinking; I just knew she incandescently angered by it. Any chance she got the chance she would ramble with no end about the ‘negative repercussions’ that I would have to face. She would always go on about how my addiction had no benefactors for my body or my mind. She would always have this small crease that
“Head inside and straight to the back where there will be a door, then knock three times and wait till they ask you the password,” the gangster who was waiting outside told my family. He was a taller young man who was there to usher people to the speak easy and keep the coppers away, because of the illegal selling of alcoholic drinks. Once we completed the instructions that we were given the opened the door for us and it seemed we had transported to Chicago of 1931.
I prefer beer. I am unable to imagine myself placing a blot of LSD under my tongue and surrendering to what comes my way. However, I can imagine myself traveling around the country on a bus seeking to bring others to a state of greater peace and understanding. Do I have to be tripping? Perhaps a little buzzed will do.
I opened the door of the gas station, the bells on the door ringing to announce my entrance. I smiled to myself and picked up a basket from beside the door.
The average day was going just as I imagined it would’ve. I went to school, went to lunch with Jake, Spencer, and May, then had my daily boy talk and rant session with May while doing homework. Everything was going just average and it was fine up until May brought up the soon to come, Prom of 2014. Then, as expected, the Student Body called an emergency meeting and announced the theme for Prom.
was pretty uneventful. Well actually, I take that back, there is something that is worth mentioning; during this time is when I started my sobriety stage.
