In elementary school I heard the phrase like a girl used every day. On the playground it was you run like a girl. I did not understand what like a girl meant at that point I thought it was a compliment. I ran like a girl. I ran fast and far and as long as I can. So thank you. However in middle school I started to realize like a girl is just a way of saying that someone cannot do something. Saying like a girl is a way to make girls feel that they are not as important in the world. Saying like a girl is a way of showing that girls do not have a significant contribution in society.
I was sitting in history class on a Thursday morning and my teacher was talking about women’s suffrage and how women got the right to vote. We learned the meaning

Why not? What reason do you have to tell me that I cannot play?” “Well because Krista. You are a girl and baseball is a sport for boys.” “So because I am not a boy you are telling me I am incapable of playing a sport that I am interested in? Because I am a girl you think I am not good enough to be on a team with the guys? I guarantee if you put me out on the diamond and you try to tell me that I am not god enough I will prove that I am better than your entire team.” “Krista, I wish there was something I could do but you are already apart of all of my sports team for girls. I do not understand what you want me to do here. My hands are tied.” “What does that mean because I am not a boy you cannot put me on their team? Because if you tell me that is true then explain to me why various other recreation centers have co-ed teams where girls can play.”
“This is just an issue that happens to be too big for you to understand.”
“What the Hell? No I understand perfectly I understand that because I am a girl you don’t think I am capable of playing this sport. I understand that you do not think that I have the passion, talent, commitment, and dedication that this takes. So whatever I am done here. I am done. I will still play what I have been but I am going to play baseball somewhere that they do not limit me just because I am a
Why does Hester meet the minister in the forest? What does it represent to her? She is going to reveal to him the “true character” of his physician. They met in the woods because she didn’t want Roger Chillingworth to interfere, her heart continually felt suspicion, and that they would need some fresh air to breathe and a nice walk.2. What does Pearl chase along the path of the forest?
There has always been that stereotype of boys being more athletic than girls. The gender segregation of sports reflects more than just physical differences between men and women. It reflects the way men think about women and sports. When someone throws a baseball in a nonathletic way, a friend would yell, “Stop throwing like a girl!” Being reminded of this
“Tomboy”, and was probably cut from any tryouts. In recent times women’s sports are becoming more popular, except the fans are predominantly women. The WNBA is the women’s version of the NBA, but not nearly treated the same or as popular. Colleges and Universities have a variety of sports for girls and boys. Some girls might try to cross- into boy’s teams and it usually causes a controversy or a lawsuit against the University. A boy would never try a girl’s sport. Women are very sensitive about their rights and what they are capable of doing in our society that is why they continue to gain power slowly but steadily.
Many people believe that girls can’t compete with boys because they aren’t strong enough, or aren’t good enough. Those reasons are not enough for girls to not be being allowed to play something they are passionate about. I feel if the girl has the talent there is no wrong in playing on a boys sport team. It is believed girls who get to play on boy’s sport reams gain self –esteem and feel worthy of their selves. Sam Gordon
“There is no reason girls shouldn’t be able to play football, just not with men. The thought of professional coed sports is ridiculous. There is a reason the biggest woman body builder doesn’t even compare in size with the men, its because their bodies are simply not made to do so and look at the olympics, maybe not events like gymnastics but as far as any sport that records times and physical output, men will always dominate. The fastest woman is not faster than the fastest man, same goes with strength. How many of you have actually played a physical sport with a man? Not high schoolers and why not because they haven’t even finished puberty. I could possibly see girls playing limited to no contact sports with men, but something like football? Simply outrageous, they would be destroyed. It doesn’t matter how tough you are, a broken leg feels the same to both sexes, and broken legs and other injuries can easily mean contract termination, hence my point is the girls will suffer a lot more
Many young boys are faced with this thought every day, because they are males participating in non-traditional sports for their gender. Just as society does not agree with women in men's sports, it does not look highly upon men taking part in women's sports either. In the article, Stereotypes Are Often Overrated, a young boy named Daniel Hile who is a sophomore in high school had always wanted to join ballet, but never did. Instead, he picked Tae Kwon Do and weightlifting, which are considered to be more masculine sports. He says that ballet is not accepted in his close-minded and conservative hometown and they stereotype male ballet dancers as being homosexuals (Stereotypes). Another ballet dancer named Julio Bragado-Young who is 20 years old, says that he was always teased in school, because of his love for dance. "Jocks would call me fag, sissy, pansy and stuff"(Stereotypes).
Men should not tell women not to play just because they might get hurt. I think women should play in a men’s sports if they want because of women’s rights, title 9, and title 7.
“You throw like a girl.” “You run like a girl.” “You’re only a girl.” These words are said every day to young women and little girls by not only siblings, but by peers everywhere. They are said with demeaning intentions to make you feel lesser for the gender you are. But I say, what’s wrong with being female? Doesn’t that make you stronger?
“When I originally joined there was only one other girl on the team. It was a bit of a boys club,” she said.
Gender equality and discrimination is a worldwide issue in today’s society. It is important to me that the phrase “like a girl” becomes a compliment, rather than an insult. I firmly believe that all human beings are created equal. Things like gender and race do not make us any less of
Take the story about Kymora Johnson for an example. Stated in ABC News Networks Kymora was a 10 year old girl from Charlottesville, Virginia who plays basketball on a boys AAU team. Kymora and her team were doing an outstanding job in the tournament until they reached the semifinals. The Head Director of the tournament disqualified the team for allowing Kymora to play on the court. Mallory the head coach responds in outrage because the team had traveled hundreds of miles, work extremely hard and payed so much money to get “cheated” as mallory explains. Mallory also explains “ she had on a pink bow and her hair was down… they knew she was a girl” (Kindelan). The NTBA knew that she was a girl in the check in process mallory explains, and they still didn’t say anything about her playing. The issue was taken on by WNBA’s New York Liberty , when they invited Kymora and her AAU team to Madison Square Garden to play a game at halftime ( Kindelan). Essence Carson stated in an interview about Kymora issue that “ it doesn’t matter if you're a boy or girl, as long as you’re playing the sport you love.” As long as everyone is having fun, and nobody's getting hurt, it shouldn't matter what gender you are.
“You kick like a girl”, “You run like a girl”, “Don’t cry man you look like a girl” We all have heard those words at least once in our life right? Even being a girl. But why?, Media has made sure that these words are used as an insult, men are usually called “girl” when they can’t accomplish a task or when they show any kind of emotion.
This dream was way beyond romantic, but of course it also has to be a little weird. It was like the manga I read called First Girl. In the beginning of what I remember; I was following a guy under water. When we had reached the destination, he had said a chant in front of two very large tiki statues and when he was finished they had opened up to a secret passageway. When he went in, I had waited for a few seconds and then I had said the following chant myself and continued into the passage as well (I never saw what was in there).
To all the male listeners, how would you feel if your father thought it was generally typical for all boys to play the sports, in particular baseball because society deemed it as a male only sport? Around the world, there are no recognised professional women’s baseball leagues; they are a thing of the past. So as a young boy growing up being forced to play baseball because your father thought it was
“Come on you have to let me play basketball at gym. But Mom come on it’s basketball nothing could really go wrong,” said John.
