“Everything I know, I learned from Dogs” –Author Unknown
Ever since I was little, I always wanted a dog. My mother and I realized that we had nothing to do. We decided to look up shelters. 11 years later, I finally convinced my mother to bring me to the animal shelter. On November 27, 2016, my mother and I went on an hour long drive to Pets Inc. At that instant, my mother pointed out that Pets Inc. was open. After we examined the website, we decided it was not too far away, and we could make the drive. We got in the car, and drove to Pets Inc. Finally, we got there, and we went inside. At first, I walked around for a while and pet some dogs. There was a dog named Palmetto, I really wanted her. Sadly, we could not get her due to the
Hi everyone, I am new here, but wanted to share an idea I have for a ongoing fundraising opportunity. So, I have this app called Walk for a Dog where every mile you walk the company (Wooftrax, Inc) donates 25 cents to your rescue of choice. I know this isn't a dog rescue or shelter, but when I was scrolling through the list of shelters on the app I passed by a raccoon rescue/sanctuary and that made me think maybe AWWS could benefit from this app. I believe to get your rescue/sanctuary on the app you have to sign up on the website on the computer. Just an idea that I wanted to throw out there and see what you all
A few months ago, my family was without a pet. Now, we have a sweet little puppy named Nellie. The day we got our dog was definitely a memorable one! It was an early morning at the Family Life No Kill Dog Shelter. Since the adoption process was first come first serve, we got there before the shelter opened and signed a little sheet on the outside of the door. On the sheet we were instructed to write our name and the dog we would like to meet and maybe adopt. Lots of people were outside, waiting in anticipation to meet the dogs. After the shelter opened, it was probably another hours wait until we could meet Nellie. Finally, our name was called. We followed an employee into a small room and told her we’re here to meet Nellie. The employee
When they told me about adopting a furry little creature, I was completely ecstatic; I loved dogs and had wanted one ever since I first tried to pet one on the street. This time, I was completly fine with my parents making a decision for me; now this was the best surprise. So a week later, I convinced my parents to visit the nearest dog shelter. As we entered, we saw about 20 enclosure each containing a dog. None of the dogs looked or sounded alike; some were fluffy, spotted, tiny, or even bigger than me. We walked down the hall of dogs and I spotted a furious, little puppy. I read the card on the front of the gate and found that this adorable dog was a poodle and his name was Gucci; the dog was also only a year and two months. But the most interesting part about the small puppy was not on his information card. Instead, it was on his front left leg; his leg was encased in a bright red cast, so he was healing from a broken leg. Soon after, my parents and I realized that Gucci was healing from something much worse than a broken leg.
When we got out dog My mom and dad surprised us last year with our dog in a pink blanket. When my sister and me came home during the winter. We asked our mom what she was holding she said our new dog.
My first day in Pets Forever I was immensely eager. I sat down and paid attention to the expectations and recent programs they had to offer. The first program that caught my interest was the veterinarian team. I was so thrilled that they had the opportunity to get involved with veterinarian clinics that I signed up as soon as I could. Unfortunately, I didn’t get in. I was downhearted because I was so thrilled to think that I could be the person getting the appropriate care for other people’s animals. However, after talking to Sarah and letting her know that I previously worked in an emergency animal clinic, she let me join the team. I didn’t realize how different of an experience being on this team was going to be. I never really spent my time in the waiting room or talking to the clients about what was going on. I had a very skewed perception thinking it was going to be like what I previously did but without the hand on experience. I thought that I would be seeing more procedures as well as new veterinary techniques. Instead, I got more human contact than animal contact. I had a misconception of what I would be doing when I signed up for the team. Even though Pet Forever wasn’t what I thought it was going to be, I still deeply enjoyed every moment and learned many life skills.
I always used to say “That’s just a dog” but I never realized how wrong that term actually was. I never realized how much one dog would unquestionably change my life. I begged my husband Paul for years to let me but a dog, but he was not having it, he just did not want the responsibility of a dog. This left me feeling upset and wanting more in my life. He didn’t honestly know how much we needed to have this dog in our lives. He changed our lives, who would have thought a dog would change your life?
It was the 11th of January and we were going to get a new dog. The road has ice, snow and sleet. I had a headache and I was really tired. It was cold, cloudy, and bright. The ride was like a 4 hour ride because I slept through the whole thing and it was awesome. When I woke it we were still not there. So my mom, brother and I all played car games. When we got there it was loud and it made my head hurt even more than it did before. It was wet and really icy so I had to crawl. My mom asked “What are you doing on the ground.” I said “Crawling so I don’t fall on my butt or my side like I always do. When we went in we saw Peanut. The women said “The reason he has bad back legs is because he was at a puppy mill.” He was funny because he was slipping
My dog’s name was Aspen after the beautiful mountain in Colorado my parents had their wedding on. She was a boxer, with a mix of light brown and dark brown fur. Aspen is one of the easiest dogs to train. Also, she loved everybody. She defiantly wasn't the cutest dog you will fine but, I believe that she has this soul inside of her that no other living organism had. She had a connection to me. When I was sad or hurt, she immediately knew something was wrong and came over to cheer me up. It would always work. Sometimes I thought she was a type of medicine. She was more than just an ordinary dog. Her and I went through some of the happiest and saddest times. She loved playing, my
I have one dog named Josie. She is a German shorthaired pointer and she is 6 years old. We got Josie about 6 years ago from Timber Hill Farms. Josie loves to hunt and retrieve tennis balls. She also likes to go “fishing”, by fishing I mean running up and down the shore of the lake chasing the fish. The first time we brought Joise up north was when she was a few months old, that was when she discovered fish. Now every time we go up north she goes fishing, even when it is 40 degrees outside.
“Mom!” I screamed, “Call an ambulance!” I remembered we were in my room and blood was everywhere, my mom was shaking as she grabbed the phone to call the hospital. My sister acted like she didn’t even know what happened, until she heard me scream for help then she got scared and started crying when she saw the blood. “What happened!?” my mom asked very scared, “Something happened to Alicia!”
4-month-old Connor recently discovered his voice and pitches. At three, he demonstrated his unique talent. The dog and I were painfully aware it was the start of a long day. regretting singing him Do Re Mi these past few days, I realize while laying in bed muffling the sounds with a pillow.
Christmas, everyone who celebrates it loves it. Well one of my Christmas’s was so important. You know that feeling where your tingly wondering what you got and putting out milk and cookies for Santa. It was a truly happy time especially the wesel 2007 Christmas. why is it so special well that's the Christmas when our dog was brought to us and it was lovely. In 2007 my parents decided to have Christmas in Florida because we have a house there. We asked for some toys and the usual stuff that six through ten year olds get for Christmas but what we wanted the most was a dog. We pleaded and pleaded and we were extra nice. We watched A Charlie Brown Christmas and that was really fun but what was in my brothers mind was getting a dog.
I will remember this day if I get my own dog. One sunny day in March, I was at my grandma's house to celebrate my great grandma's birthday. My grandma's house is brown-walled, three-floored, and smells like dog. We were about to eat dessert. Dessert was on the table for a couple minutes and then I saw that Rudy ate my cousin's gluten-free cake off the table and left a mess. Rudy is my grandma's reddish-brown miniature dachshund. There he was, sitting on the chair with cake and frosting all over his face. Grandma got grumpy. "Bad dog Rudy!" she yelled. Rudy responded with a whine. Rudy's eyes looked heavy with guilt.
Think about this. What is the biggest surprise that you will never forget? I have had a lot of situations where I was surprised, but there was one specific one that I will never forget. One that will leave a huge impact on my life.
One Saturday morning I woke up and didn’t feel right, I was much shorter than usual. I went to my sister’s room to look in a mirror. When I went in I was shocked to see what had happened. I had turned into a dog! How had this happened, when, and why me?
