Have you ever seen the TV show the “Walton’s?” If you have, then you will definitely be able to identify how unique the place was where I was raised. I was raised in North Arkansas in a small community called Onia. In fact, the road that I lived on was called Lawrence Road. It was named this because all of my relatives lived down this road. My Grandpa, who is now a retired Baptist preacher, lived down this road along with his brothers and sisters. The church that I grew up going to was also pastored by my grandfather for over thirty years and it was about two miles down the road. The community bordered the Ozark National Forest so it was very rural and isolated. Most of the traffic on Lawrence Road was mainly the people who lived
Hwy. 395, past a marker grandma green church of my childhood. Our post Ironman week was less than typical. Hence, we are home turning over flagging remnants of overgrown August herbs, a plethora of scarlet blistering shishito peppers, and multi colored bells, discovering another garden dinner in the doing. My mother often made stuffed bell peppers which began with blanched, whole peppers full of ground beef, bread crumbs, bacon, and raw Minute Rice which magically cooked the tiny white bits as they bathed in bubbling stewed tomatoes topped with American cheese. Sixty years later, my sister and I reminiscence about those delicious packages of meatloaf and buttery new
Tom Blaine is a student at Brookdale studying film and communication. His interest in film and literature all started when he was a kid with his father. Tom described his father as a “move buff”, having collected a wide variety of old films, like Star Wars. They would lie on the couch, watching the
I was so nervous to go into a convince store to buy a coke or a water or some food while tripping on acid. But I didn’t have any other choice after I ran out of food in my pockets and water in my bottles – so I eventually convinced myself that I wasn’t that high, and Adam and I stopped at a convince store to buy what we needed. I kept my sunglasses on and the kind old man behind the counter looked like he knew what was up, but I was so thrashed and my mind was swirling around like blender blades, so I wasn’t entirely sure. All was well though, as I handed the man behind the counter cash, got back my change, grabbed my granola bar and can of coke, and started to be on my way. Then, as I turned to exit the store,
One of the most renowned elements of entertainment was the theatre. Getting the chance to see a movie was a great experience not easily forgotten. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Dill, a small child, is able to see the movie Dracula. Shortly after seeing the movie he runs away from home, and knowing that his friends understand his love of the movies, he tells Jim, a close friend,“‘Think they’re still searchin’ all the picture shows in Meridian.’ Dill grinned”(140). A level of pride is developed in Dill when he can gloat to everyone that he has watched a picture show. For the more mature audience during the Dust Bowl Era, attending a movie was a simple diversion. Claire Ellerton states,“During the depression going to the movies
During the spring break, I watched Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One at the Balboa Theater, a long-standing independent cinema that first opened its doors in 1926. Given the theater’s decor and screening of Hollywood blockbusters and indie films, I think the viewing of Ready Player One, a delightful mashup of 80’s pop culture, was enhanced quite well by the cinema’s atmosphere. The theatre appears antique, moreso like a theater that holds plays and musicals, but one that appeals to a film buff or younger, hipper generation. This is in part due to its brown floral styled carpet, old arcade games, outdated photobooth, and classic film posters spread on the wall. Everything was fresh and new to me, as I never attend independent theaters.
I am creating a set in a blackbox style theatre which requires a 16 foot square, 12 inch tall raised acting area which also contains a wall with a door on the upstate side. The first thing I must do is create the platform. The platform is 16 ft long and 16 feet wide and 12 inches tall. I will be using 3/4 inch plywood for the flooring of my platform and 2x4 for framing underneath and support legs. Once I use my table saw to cut out my 16'x16' piece of plywood I will also be cutting four 16'x12" pieces for the sides of the platform. Then using four 12 inch pieces of my 2x4 I will be attaching the four 16'x12" pieces together using my drill and screws. Once that is complete I will be taking my 16'x16' piece of platform and attaching it to the top of my now "frame". Once again going in with a drill in screws, mind you I also used wood glue during this
As a child, every weekday I would stand on the corner of my street, and wait for the bus. On this corner was a largely unused parking lot, only containing cars during Sunday mass at the church across the street. It was a a blemish on a street that otherwise held a picturesque depiction of American suburbia. A few years ago, my mother took it upon herself to organize a movement to rid our neighborhood of the lot. From this inspiration emerged Linwood Park, the brainchild of my environmentalist mother. As the project gained legs, it became a constant source of work and frustration for my mom. She frequently recounted the various distresses of dealing with government bureaucracy, obtaining the funding, or getting the necessary supplies,
Me and my mother absolutely hate most Aerosmith music but Disney decided to play some on TV that morning, it felt kind of strange that this would happen on my birthday of all days, but we continued over to one of the Disney parks. It was the Animal Kingdom we went there for a character breakfast but we decided not to stay at the Animal Kingdom for the day so we went to Hollywood Studios. It was a nice morning at Walt Disney World and my family were so excited to explore Hollywood Studios. Our family started to walk around in the park after having had issues at the fingerprint scanner found a interesting giant guitar and we walked to it. We saw that the ride was called the Rock N Roller Coaster and we decided to go on it, but my little brother got scared so dad
Life is bursting of tremendous amounts of demands and stresses that completely overwhelm the human psyche. Therefore, it is extremely imperative that everyone takes a break from the daily challenges that bombard our psychological wellbeing. Thus, enjoying a picture show provides a necessary exodus from the problematic pressures of life. Subsequently, relishing in a motion picture in the lavish AMC Theater in Montgomery, AL and viewing one in the coziness and sanctuary of one’s residence extends two dissimilar kinds of entertainment experiences. Nevertheless, this fleeting composition will explore the differences and similarities that exist between the two.
A place that changed my life was when I returned to Indiana for the second time. I felt very free, there weren't any very big buildings around me. There were only small houses and a big area that I could run around in. I wasn't very used to a big and open space where I could do whatever I wanted to. I was used to having many buildings around me that were tall instead of small and the buildings that did not take up as much space. Returning to Indiana changed how I viewed the world. When I was little, I used to think that I was trapped in a place with very little room to run in. I discovered a place that had a lot of space for me to be active.
Here’s a little about myself hopefully it can spark inspiration for an ideal costume. My physical features include longer brown wavy hair with brown eyes and that’s about all I’m going to say. Personality wise, I am outgoing and love talking to different people. I am involved in a campus organization called the Cougar Counseling Team. I love volunteering anywhere available such as orphanages, animal shelters, etc. My favorite sport to play is volleyball; I play at every opportunity given. I come from a small town and am a Christian, however, I am a liberal. I am very open minded and accepting in all aspects. The things that are most important to me are my family and friends. I adore my pets including my cat: Cinderfella,
I have been speaking to Mike Haggerty with The Film House about various opportunities working on their upcoming films, but I wanted to reach out to you directly too as extras casting is my main interest.
It was about two hours until the doors opened and I was sitting in staring at my television, appearing to be in a trance. On the screen a mob of what looked like 30 or so zombies were chasing me through a maze of pilars and various piles of rubbish as I swiftly navigated the ceiling of an upside down temple in Tokyo. I was supposed to be headed to the ATM to withdraw gas money and a bit of spending money-in case I wanted to get a t-shirt or something but my Playstation's grip on me was as strong as ever. Fortunately, it wasnt long before my undead counterparts overwhelmed me and ended the game. I hopped up, grabbed my vynle copy of Return of 4eva and everything I would need for my journey, and darted out the door. I was embarking on my journey to the Granada Theatre where, after a lot of waiting, I would not only watch Big K.R.I.T. perform, but also I would also be able to meet him afterwards.
Walking into the theatre, it took my eyes some time to adjust from the bright and sunny outside sky. The smell of fresh popcorn with butter and cotton candy filled the air, as my Dad rushed us through the crowd to theater number 4. It was already 10 minutes after the movie started so the light jogging through the lobby was very necessary. The sound of the sticky floor as we shuffled up the stairs to get to the “good seats” in the center of the stadium seating reminded me of the sound of packaging peanuts. All I could smell was concession food. The hot dogs and nachos filled the theatre as I hurried to take off my coat. I was ready to see my favorite actor, Denzel Washington grace the screen in the movie, Remember the Titans. This movie
