Sunday, the morning after my off-site ecology lab. Extremely exhausted from yesterday’s trek through Lakes Hodges, I dreaded getting up from bed. I took a shower and ate breakfast. I had to do a couple of errands before coming back home. And my first priority was to purchase a magazine for my writing class. I drove to a local bookstore called Bookstar, the former Loma Theatre. The traffic was light so I got to my destination swiftly. I parked my car and proceeded to the front door. I took a short pause to analyze my surroundings. The interior design of the theater still remains intact, which provided an interesting juxtaposition between two forms of entertainment: reading and watching films. I admire the aesthetics and how they paid homage
Have you ever seen the TV show the “Walton’s?” If you have, then you will definitely be able to identify how unique the place was where I was raised. I was raised in North Arkansas in a small community called Onia. In fact, the road that I lived on was called Lawrence Road. It was named this because all of my relatives lived down this road. My Grandpa, who is now a retired Baptist preacher, lived down this road along with his brothers and sisters. The church that I grew up going to was also pastored by my grandfather for over thirty years and it was about two miles down the road. The community bordered the Ozark National Forest so it was very rural and isolated. Most of the traffic on Lawrence Road was mainly the people who lived
I am creating a set in a blackbox style theatre which requires a 16 foot square, 12 inch tall raised acting area which also contains a wall with a door on the upstate side. The first thing I must do is create the platform. The platform is 16 ft long and 16 feet wide and 12 inches tall. I will be using 3/4 inch plywood for the flooring of my platform and 2x4 for framing underneath and support legs. Once I use my table saw to cut out my 16'x16' piece of plywood I will also be cutting four 16'x12" pieces for the sides of the platform. Then using four 12 inch pieces of my 2x4 I will be attaching the four 16'x12" pieces together using my drill and screws. Once that is complete I will be taking my 16'x16' piece of platform and attaching it to the top of my now "frame". Once again going in with a drill in screws, mind you I also used wood glue during this
I was so nervous to go into a convince store to buy a coke or a water or some food while tripping on acid. But I didn’t have any other choice after I ran out of food in my pockets and water in my bottles – so I eventually convinced myself that I wasn’t that high, and Adam and I stopped at a convince store to buy what we needed. I kept my sunglasses on and the kind old man behind the counter looked like he knew what was up, but I was so thrashed and my mind was swirling around like blender blades, so I wasn’t entirely sure. All was well though, as I handed the man behind the counter cash, got back my change, grabbed my granola bar and can of coke, and started to be on my way. Then, as I turned to exit the store,
Tom Blaine is a student at Brookdale studying film and communication. His interest in film and literature all started when he was a kid with his father. Tom described his father as a “move buff”, having collected a wide variety of old films, like Star Wars. They would lie on the couch, watching the
Me and my mother absolutely hate most Aerosmith music but Disney decided to play some on TV that morning, it felt kind of strange that this would happen on my birthday of all days, but we continued over to one of the Disney parks. It was the Animal Kingdom we went there for a character breakfast but we decided not to stay at the Animal Kingdom for the day so we went to Hollywood Studios. It was a nice morning at Walt Disney World and my family were so excited to explore Hollywood Studios. Our family started to walk around in the park after having had issues at the fingerprint scanner found a interesting giant guitar and we walked to it. We saw that the ride was called the Rock N Roller Coaster and we decided to go on it, but my little brother got scared so dad
For my interview I decided to go with my Grandma, Delia Lomeli. She was about
Hello fellow classmate my name is Latasha. I am studying to become a paralegal along with my Associates of Art degree. I love to dance and watch action movies with my family. I am a Native Texan, I was born in Houston Texas, but raised in rural city of Conroe Texas. I am interested in politics and believe that I should no more when it comes down to political issues. Propaganda is often information that is biased or misleading in nature. It is used to influence the viewers who look at art. Propaganda is used to manipulate human emotions. People say that I’m too young to have problems in my life but they don’t know that even though I’m only sixteen years old, life forced me to become a mature person at a young age. I see things differently than most teenagers, which means that it’s harder for me to fit in. I’m not good at making friends, I’m very selective but I like to help people if they need me. My crucible started since I came to the United States when I was twelve, and after that my life has been so different.
Life is bursting of tremendous amounts of demands and stresses that completely overwhelm the human psyche. Therefore, it is extremely imperative that everyone takes a break from the daily challenges that bombard our psychological wellbeing. Thus, enjoying a picture show provides a necessary exodus from the problematic pressures of life. Subsequently, relishing in a motion picture in the lavish AMC Theater in Montgomery, AL and viewing one in the coziness and sanctuary of one’s residence extends two dissimilar kinds of entertainment experiences. Nevertheless, this fleeting composition will explore the differences and similarities that exist between the two.
It feels like every day, countless news stations, websites, and social media users break the tragic story of yet another mass shooting in the US, a fact that is shared by almost no other developed countries. Clearly there is something anomalous about the U.S., why else would the U.S. be the only country where this regularly happens? The answer lies in one key difference between the United States and other developed countries, its policies on gun control and ownership. The 2nd amendment to the United States Constitution states, essentially, that every US citizen has the right to own guns, and that the United States Government may not infringe upon those rights. The truth of the matter is that controlling American Citizen’s access to firearms is the only solution to the undeniable issue of mass shootings and gun related homicides, a fact that is backed up by the example of several other developed countries, in which guns are controlled and incidents of gun homicide and mass murder are far less common than they are in America. Controlling guns in America is a task that has been halted numerous times by the antiquated constitutional stance on American armament, and is the only sensible option for lessening the atrocious tragedies that are seen so often on U.S. soil.
I have been speaking to Mike Haggerty with The Film House about various opportunities working on their upcoming films, but I wanted to reach out to you directly too as extras casting is my main interest.
It has usually been my experience that a cocktail consumed everyday, anytime of day is an essential requirement for sanity. For those that imbibe, a cocktail can turn a bad day into a fabulous one. Last year I started a new job, sufficed to say I was happy and grateful but unimpressed, but it was a lot of money. What made everything chill was the bar located in the downstairs lobby of the hotel. Now, this bar was nothing to brag about, I mean it was not the famous Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans that houses the famed carousel bar, this was just a pissant, nothing special watering hole adequately placed for hotel guest to spend money on expensive drinks-you get the picture. Every day at lunch and dinner my small group of co-workers and I pranced
You have some great ideas for lesson planning when it comes to culturally responsive teaching. Also, you are correct with stating that diverse students need to feel and know that they are part of the class community. I think having field trips during certain culture times is a great way for students to learn about how cultures are similar and different. I truly like that you would have parents come into the class when talking about families and culture.
