In April 11, 2005 I started as general labor. I used to stack bags of different weights of 40 lbs. 50 lbs. and 51 lbs. on wooden pallets. After a year I learned how to operate a Forklift, later I also learned how to mix the different product in order to be able to bag them. After 6 years I was able to perform all of the different job on the warehouse including how to drive an 18 wheeler truck. Before my 7th year I was promoted to floor supervisor. Now I was in charge of a group of 8 to 10 people. A year later now I was in charge up to 20 to 30 people. Mid way on my 8th year I was promoted to Warehouse and Scale House Assistant Manager. I was in charge of 70+ people. I learned how to operate a heavy truck weight scale. There were no computers
Walking away from everything you once knew and starting over is never a picnic. Leaving Iraq, and moving to America has impacted my life more than anything. I was only 4 years old at that time, and the only English I spoke was “excuse me, water please.” My family and I did not know it then, but our lives were going to change; we would become “Americanized”. Learning English was one of the massive changes that occurred, the way I dressed (culture), and even the way I had power to go to school and educate myself.
Throughout the conversation, Susan did not inform me that the home was still in First Look and not open to investors at this time. Susan did not highlight any features of the home, nor did she talk about the neighborhood or the surrounding area. When asked, Susan paused to reference the property file and stated, "In looking at the pictures it appears that it needs interior paint, carpet, appliances, and a few windows, which the previous seller must have taken." She stated, "I don't know why they have to remove things from the homes." I asked, "Do you have offers?" She paused to check the property file and answered, "No offers." I asked, "Is the property behind the home farmland?" She paused to reference the property file and replied, "It appears
After working a long fifteen hour shift, my arms and legs feel like wet pasta. In Dover, it is still legal to send your children to work in factories. My first day working at the linen factory, which was three years ago, I passed out and when I woke up I was still laying in the same spot. I quickly realized that from now on I was on my own. That was a very hard lesson to learn at the age of eight, but it made me into the young person I am today.
My first example of one of my peices of work is my Garage Sale flyer. I choes this as one of my examples because it demonstates my understandings of our unit all about creating flyers, business cards etc… The strongest aspects of this peice of work is the way I have all the information needed in an organized way. It does not look super cluttered. I think i could always work on something with any peice of work i do. With this peice i think i could work on my spelling and puncuation. Some of the skills i use to create this peice were; Change the backround, Bordes and accents, Text and
At the career fair, I received an opportunity to have a conversation with a rep of Iowa Department of Administrative Services. We first, made an eye contact with a hand shake. We talked about what my interested, following what I see myself doing in the future. I told her I am not sure if I want to go and get my master’s in health promotion or go into occupational therapy. She told me they have job openings in public health. When it comes to Occupational therapy they work with hospitals.
“Hey you want to drive”, my step-dad yelled over the loud engine of blue grizzly 4x4 quad I yelled “yes!!”, so as I got one the quad I put on my helmet and fased the strap on the same color helmet.
Ugh! A sink full of dirty dishes. Hours of bending, scrubbing pots, and hearing the chef yell “We need more cups, we need more plates!” Leftover food running down the plates, as I pre-wash with warm water. Food sticking onto my hands and the feeling of hot heat circling the air is unspeakable. Working as a dishwasher in a restaurant was my worst job on the account of my working condition, working for inconsistent number of hours, and the pay only being minimum wage.
Have you ever had something you were “super passionate” about be stripped away from you? Roughly one and a half years ago I started my sophomore year of lacrosse. The lineup of students on the lacrosse team this year promised us a spot in the championship. Throughout fall practices, the majority of the sophomore class played amongst the varsity team. As the season ramped up in the spring, we waited for our first game against Saint John Paul’s Christian Academy. First game of the year, we enveloped ourselves into the game and became one as a team. Running downfield with a clear, open shot on the goal “whoosh” I shot the ball bottom right, a bare miss. Suddenly “crash” I was hit from both sides and struggled to stay standing. As I came to my
1) Tell me about a time when you did repetitive work that required a high degree of accuracy.
We Three Kings Daycare was the venue in which I chose to complete my field work. Luckily for me, my mom is one of the employees and so gaining access, setting up a theme, date, and time was one of the easier aspects of this project. The group, my mom, is typically responsible for ranges from 8-11 children ages six through eight. Due to the slightly older age group I was working with. I forego beginning with a song partly because I could not find anything relatable to my theme, and also because I planned on doing my story time after they had come in from playing outside. I figured outdoor play would be enough exertion to keep the jitters at bay. Gathering everyone in a circle, I introduced myself and had everyone go around and tell me their
Oh man.. diet this.. diet that!! what will they think of next!.. what an industry.. I am not saying that it won't work.. but i know that if I do a set program, i will end up getting off it in the end and gaining my weight back.. I started cooking for myself.. I found it was a great way of cutting the calories!..but i didn't know how to cook... then my friend bought me this dirty little beginners cookbook that was so dang funny that I just couldnt put it down... I've made some great stuff with it and all a helluva lot healthier than eating out!.. I can't tell you the name of the book cause it's politically incorrect.. but if you google "whipped and beaten Culinary works" you'll find it.. but if you get offended easily and can't take a joke..skip
I wake up at five every single morning. I need to in order to provide for my family, my boss closes off the factory at six every morning. If I do not make it to work on time I will be fined a twopence and not get paid for the day. My favorite part about my schedule is before I go off to labor. Everyone from my apartment is out and stirring, drinking hot cocoa and having a great time before their miserable day. Around half past eight, we settle down and eat breakfast after a solid hour and a half of work. I bring my lunch to work since we only have half hour break and I live too far away. I never have to worry about hot water though because my boss always supplies us. At five minutes to nine the bell sounds and we are back to work. I continue
I called Mrs. Glasgow and visited Providence Hospital 1:30pm this afternoon in reference to the required documents to start field work next Wednesday. I have both the volunteer application and observation application completed however, I was told I need a PPD/TB test, drug test, and background check from the police department. I would like to know if there is anyway I can use the background check from Sentry instead of paying for another background check. In addition, I tried to schedule a PPD/TB and drug test with the hospital's occupational health services but was told I could not schedule an appointment today and I will be contacted tomorrow. However, I plan to take the initiative to call Occupational health services tomorrow morning
In the agricultural community I live in, it was bound to happen. Against my father's will, I woke up at the break of dawn, along with my aunt and a few other women to go work in the field. I jumped out of bed and prepared my belongings. I wore an old pair of jeans and a flannel. To add to my look, I wore tennis shoes and tied a bandana around my neck. I wanted to look the part. My aunt loaded her truck with our lunch boxes and water and we were on our way to work.
