Geographically and culturally speaking, I know a lot about the world, even the ones I haven’t been to if that’s possible. Traveling however is an ultimate dream of mine, I know you learn a lot by travelling the world but haven’t had the financial means to do so. I’m hoping I achieve that dream soon because I hear its best to travel in your 20’s. I know some things about (Maryland that’s where my home is.) I live closer to Washington DC so I know a lot about the tourist locations, like the national mall, the capital, the pentagon and a lot of the museums and galleries. I’ve lived in Philadelphia for a year so I know a lot about the city. I’m very much interested in parts of the Middle East, and East and North Africa.
My trip to Europe was an eye opening experience. It awakened my senses to so many different aspects of life I had not already been introduced to. It was almost like watching a movie, from the minute I stepped of the plane everything was different. When I think about the trip and what experiences I had many sociological concepts come to mind, such as culture shock, ethnocentrism, culture, social locators, cultural transmission, norms, language, and subculture. It seems being placed directly in the middle of something that is so different made it easier to pick out the different concepts.
“Oh the places you’ll go” by Dr.Seuss was my favorite book ever since i was young. Hearing the title brought my mind to countries, cities and oceans waiting to be explored .As I got older I learned that there was much more than just sites to be seen. I learned that there was human geography, international relations, comparative government and politics, and international law and much more involved into becoming apart of the world .I’ve gotten opportunities to travel to Portugal,Spain and Puerto Rico. Usually when people my age travel they want to be the beach and go to waterparks when I travel i like to learn the government, geography and their politics. I’m very interested in the world around me. In intermediate school and elementary school
I would go to canada and other diffrent countries in discover new things like religion citys
Last year I started a new sport, cross country. I only did it because my lacrosse coach said that it might help me get better for lacrosse. So I went to the first late summer practice last year to see what this was like, so then we did warm-ups and a lap around the track. Then it was the first time I met coach Chase, My first impression of him was going to be very strict, But soon realized that this was false because of one of the first things he said. He said “I know there are a lot of nerves here right now, but cross country isn’t about winning every race, that comes later” then continued with “Cross country is about showing what you can do to yourself.” This struck me very hard because I was not that fast and was near the back. Through that fall the team did very well, I also made some progress myself. After the season was over I made a decision.
I first started running Cross Country in 7th grade. I had never run before, so I was on the low end of the team in terms of speed. I got faster as I ran, and could run longer as I increased my endurance. Soon the races commenced.
I enjoy doing cross country in the fall of the my school year and track in the spring of my school year. I love running cross country after school because it’s a time I find relaxing and nice to breathe in the fresh air after running 3 miles. It’s also enjoyable to talk and bond with my friend on our 3 mile runs together. In the spring, I love hurdling because I enjoy the feeling of jumping over one obstacle after another. My favorite nonacademic activities are playing tennis and American Sign Language. During my free time, I like to play tennis with my friends, especially during the summer and at Weymouth Club. I also enjoy watching ASL videos on YouTube in my free time and learning how to sign new songs. It’s an awesome hobby I like to do
Write a narrative about 3 people who are on a road trip only to stop off at a gas station and pick up a fourth whom they don't know
I just found out that my parents are making us move from Florida to Alaska. I feel so miserable. Saying goodbye to my wonderful friends will be hard and sad. I can not believe that we have to move all the way to the North, where it is cold and boring. I am scared that I will not meet any friends. I loved being in Florida, where I can play anytime I wanted to from sunrise to sunset. There will probably be no sunny beaches in Alaska. I’ll probably be stuck in a house while it is freezing and snowing outside in Alaska. I wish I did not have to move.
I remember the day just like it was yesterday, the pale color and coldness of her skin. The sky was clear blue, soft, with a touch of red, and the trees seemed stiff in their bright green shade. The wind was blowing with its humid dry air. And All I could do was stand silently in disbelief, caught up in my own thoughts and calm as I ever been. Wondering what I could have done differently to change the course of time, life had taken us upon. Since that very day a chunk of my heart was ripped away, and broken into pieces… “Oh how I miss her so much.”
During the course of the last three years, I have went on various mission trips. Most recently I went to Florida my church and I spent a four week giving back to small part in Panama City one day we gave out water and small snacks to anyone that needed another we picked up trash on the beach first we split up into groups then went our separate ways. finally when all the hard work was over our group celebrated having a clean environment the rest of the week went by so fast I didn’t realize how much time passed. When your meeting so many people and doing so much fun and heartwarming things, time doesn’t register. I felt we really made a difference to that community
I went to Burger King with three friends. We walked a long way then I
Confessions of a Ritual Tourist was by far my favorite reading this week. The idea of traveling to places for ritual events seems pretty interesting. Traveling to see ritual events seems like it will give you your own little window into the culture. Although I have not been able to do this kinda of traveling so far in my life I see myself traveling this way in the near future. Being in the army I was able to travel to South Korea, and although I was not able to see an ritual event happening, I enjoyed the culture and was able to learn a lot from the people I interacted with. In the South Korea culture it is looked down upon if you have a big house.South Korea culture unlike the United States culture it is more expectable to own a smaller house
‘“Who are you?” said the Caterpillar.’ (Carroll 1998: 40). Identity is explored extensively throughout Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Amos Tutuola’s The Palm-Wine Drinkard (1952). Both protagonists embark on a journey that questions their inner self; through the distortion of characters, time and plot. Transformations allow each protagonist to distort their own identity and gain self-awareness as they travel. Both texts explore the protagonist’s escape from reality through the episodic structure. Each episode is constructed as they travel, to become part of their identity, and the representation of escape as a criticism of the social context. Both authors carefully structure the narrative for both protagonists to create an identity that is intertwined into their travels.
Sometimes we do not get the opportunities we want, for people with disabilities, those opportunities come less. I think it would be neat for disabled to get the opportunity to have a vacation like my family and I have experienced. It could be informational or factual, fun and be a great experience.
Trying to find memories is like looking for treasure. You look at the surface and see something mediocre, but you dig deep and find something cool, pretty, and meaningful. It took a while to think of a fond memory, but once I thought of some, it was hard to choose a favorite. Growing up I have had many great experiences in the form of vacations. Between going to Disney World, owning a vacation home, hanging out with my grandparents in Arizona, traveling to Canada and more. They all make amazing memories that I will forever cherish. The vacation spot we go to the most, though, is Wisconsin Dells. A few times I have been allowed to invite friends to come with. When I am allowed to bring friends, it is always a ginormous amount of fun. We goof off in the hotel room, play in the arcades, and swim in the water parks.
