About me: Growing up in Miami Beach, Florida, I’ve had a different perspective on demographic issues, the political process, and local politics than most. Currently, I am a junior at Miami Beach Senior High School where I am an avid participant in the National Speech and Debate Association, my school’s Student Government Association (SGA), and United States Grant Committee. Something different about me is that earlier this year I started a political action committee (PAC) called Teens for Teens. As the youngest director of a PAC in the country, I have definitely had some interesting experiences that other 16 year old students don't experience too often.
Passions: Local political activism, public speaking, tracking current events, international
One sunny, hot afternoon at switchback mx in Orlando, Florida I was preparing get two rookie supercross riders here train. I was getting very nervous that adam cianciarulo, and ryan lojack would not be here on time to train. I stepped out of the van and smelled the 2-strokes, and heard the roaring bikes. Then finally Adam and Ryan finally showed up! Ricky Carmichael and Ryan Villopoto and I told them to go get ready, because we had a lot of work to do today. Ryan, and Adam went to work on the track battling it out, when I waved them in.
I first encountered the ocean in 1958; I was ten. Being a map enthusiast, I knew exactly where Florida was, and I was excited to swim in the salty Atlantic Ocean. Born and raised next to frigid Lake Michigan I understood a large body of water as well as a sandy beach, but no book or encyclopedia prepared me for understanding the flavor or immensity of an ocean and its adjoining shore. Arriving at the beach I raced across the hot pure white sand to keep my feet from burning, stopping in wonder when I saw ocean waves gently caressing a seashore that seemed to go on and on forever. I knew I was somewhere special.
Before coming to Miami, I used to live in a small city in Colombia called Barranquilla, where the weather is really hot like in Florida, but very humid. When the rain season comes, is when people usually get sick with the flu. As you see people sneezing, coughing, with high fever and headaches there is a pretty good chance to get infected too. September 2007 is a time that I will never forget because it changed my life forever. I have always worked as an esthetician, where to be in contact with people is part of my job. During that month the weather was really bad, there was a lot of rain and it was very windy. People were getting really sick with all kinds of symptoms related to the flu virus and I started feeling the same way too. Usually
The United States has always been “home” to me because I feel that I am a bit of the quintessential American story. I was born to immigrants hoping for a better opportunity than what was offered from their third world home country. I was raised and went to school here, which blended many of my parent’s home culture and the new American culture. As I have matured, I have noticed how much my life has been influenced by society’s opportunities and issues. The American character is the crossroads of opportunity, struggle, and hopefulness because the it is not only a reflection of the founding father’s ideas, but also a reflection of minorities who have interjected their experiences that shaped my American journey.
Most of the members of the group are of the age below 25. As many political institutions require a candidate to verify the certain criteria for experience and some qualifications, a young American may not acquire all of those requirements. At this stage of life, the foremost priority of them is education, and they don’t want to hamper those getting involved in a political conflict. Politics is believed to be monotonous which does not offer variety or interest. Young people think and are aware that, by getting involved in politics they are limiting their career opportunities which will refrain them from competing and succeeding in a political matter. But they can influence a political party to develop a particular
I have a lengthy history with Urban Promise Miami. I first joined their program when I was ten years old along with my brother and cousins. The mission of their organization is to equip Miami’s children and young adults with the necessary skills to attain academic achievement, life management, spiritual growth and leadership rooted in the Christian faith, and that is a goal that I have become testament to them achieving.
After attending the debates my PAC held for the Mayor Group candidates in November 2015, a local business owner asked me to start a business association for the seven businesses in her complex. It was an interesting dynamic to lobby a commissioner on the minimum wage at seventeen. To speak about wage compression for businesses that make less than $300,000 in revenue per year is an exhilarating experience that taught me age is truly only a number. Additionally, I was able to create a Youth Commission with enforcement powers in the city. When Mayor Levine appointed me as chair, it gave me a body of my peers to implement youth policy in my city. This experience transitioned me from a child benefiting from policy decisions to an adult helping others with my legislative choices. The bang of my gavel can make a difference for every student in my city, a responsibility that made me a de facto caretaker of my
Growing up in Southern California, I was surrounded by coastal culture, which has influenced me in many ways. No matter whether I lived in San Diego or Ventura county, I was never more than ten minutes away from the beach. Every weekend, it seemed, my dad would take us to the beach as family so we could play in the water, build sandcastles, catch hermit crabs, see the tide pools, and most of all, spend time together. I was enchanted by all the beach had to offer. Every sandcastle built was a palace for a hermit crab and every tide pool a thriving community. Whenever I stepped into the water, my imagination would run wild. Despite how often we went, I always enjoyed our days at the beach.
As the airplane touched down in sunny Florida, I knew this will be a start to a new life. Stepping out of the airport, I began to take in my new surroundings in the sunshine state. This state is nowhere near New York, the hot weather gluing onto my skin was just dreadful. Glancing around, I noticed a lot of elderly folks taking their sweet time to travel to their destination. Florida is all about driving, which I was not familiar with at that time. Florida drivers are known for driving slow; the light turns green and then they continue to hold back traffic. The weather is horrible humid and unbreathable; especially with hurricanes and tornadoes that are always lurking. Florida is quite tedious; the beaches makes you weary and make you feel
That day, when I applied to South Dade was a choice that I didn't really care for at all. To me, it really didn't matter what school I go to, one bit but to finish high school. Until all my year's of being in South Dade. Not knowing what I will become in the future or what to do with my life at all one bit. So, I just started at the base and tried out for clubs and tried new things that I can take in. To give me a sign of what I want to be in life. So, after going to several clubs and noticing I have no interest in them. And just gave up. Till I heard about one club from a friend of mines in the hallway. As I was really interested because it was part of a hobby I like to do and that was cooking.
I did it. I moved to Miami. I let all of that shit that happened in Texas go. I no longer care what happens to Trevor. He can get out of jail, stay in jail, have ten kids with ten different women, and I wouldn't give a damn. That man almost drove me nuts with his antics, and I'm not going to waste any more of my time dwelling on him. He's not worth it. The further that I got away from Texas, I felt the chains that Trevor had on me breaking.
To conclude, I am highly motivated to share my experience, participate in the SUSI and to collaborate with other “to-be” political youth leaders in order to obtain a “real touch of the USA” and help
Road trip! Mom gave me a great assignment, I heading to Miami U and a trippy trip with Lil promises be fun if the rain gods behave. Lil drives a convertible. Lil’s mermaid gig doesn’t pay the bills, the Mustang comes as a perk for working as a stripper and having a beautiful body. In the Land of Lap Dances, she’s known as, The Beaut.
I was not cleared in my message, what I meant to ask was once we arrive in Jacksonville, FL, we spend the one night there (21SEP) waiting for the rotator the following morning and coming back we spend another night (26SEP) before we flight back to SA on the 27 Sep. I usually stayed on post, but currently there is no availability for rooms.
Back when the 2016 election was full-force, there was one candidate that drew in younger voters more than any other. He was a 76-year-old career politician. This man was Bernie Sanders, and even though my peers and good ol’ Sanders were insurmountably distant in age, he understood the political culture of the United States’ youth. He discussed issues that affected the kids of our future, such as education,
