By working with the Childhood Leukemia Foundation, it made me realize that I do want to pursue a career in the medical field or even maybe do cancer research. Through this experience, I learned that no action is too small, and that one person can make a difference in anyone's life. From my experience, I would tell younger people to get involve and if they have the opportunity to help someone out do it. Do not volunteer because you need hours for a club or whatever because at the end of the day none of that matters. When it comes to community service, it has to be more than just obtaining hours. You need to be passionate, and truly care for others. The happy joyful feeling and the positive impact you can have on others is the most rewarding
From day one my mom taught me that you will get more satisfaction giving to and helping others than you ever will by just doing things for yourself. I truly believe this. Volunteering to teach swimming lessons, organizing recycled items, and visiting the nursing home are all things I have been involved in and doing each of those I have learned more and more about how important service is. Just recently my classmates and I helped an elderly woman move all of her belongings out of her home and into the 4H building for an auction. The 4H building is on the fairgrounds where I have volunteered to clean up every spring for the last 3 years. Service is very important but also very rewarding. I look toward to doing more service projects in the
It takes time out of your day and usually goes unpaid. In my life I have been involved in many service “projects”. One service that I have always participated in and enjoy doing is helping the boys in sixth grade and below. I have worked many boys basketball tournaments and helped out at these tournaments. I have also went to the saturday morning boys basketball practices as well as the camps that have taken place over the years. At these practices and the camps I lead the boys in drills, help them out, and teach them. I have also helped out at the preschool, the dinners, and other celebrations at the Landeck Church. I believe that I do posses the qualities of service and that I always will.
Serving others is a down deep way of learning more about yourself and helping others to see past themselves. Our Business and Professional Communication class participated in several service projects, which were interesting and exciting to be involved with helping others. As I am studying the major courses of Early Childhood/Special Education, our group project with the “Big Brothers Big Sister” program was very memorable to me. It was wonderful to have fun and participate in various activities with the kids. The environment was caring due to everyone helping each other accomplish different tasks. It was a great feeling to be able to share our time, talents, and hearts with the kids.
Service in the school and community is an insight to your character and work ethic. I have over 20 hours of community service from many different experiences. Last summer I worked for Camp Barakel, a summer camp, in the kitchen. I assisted in serving food and cleaning. I learned discipline and teamwork through this valuable experience. Not only this I’ve worked with the Elderly in Rehabilitation centers and the patience and nurturing qualities is something that will forever be valuable in my life. Last but not least working as Big Sister or Buddy to a 4th grade girl has given me the chance to positively impact and influence her life as simply as having a friend is immense. All of these service opportunities as added to my character and prepared me for the responsibilities of
For my service project, I chose to work at the Meadowlark Meals organization. This organization takes in donations of food and uses them to make meals for children at the school to take home on the weekends. If these children did not take this food home, they would not eat at all over the weekend. I chose to work at this organization because I love kids and it is sad to see them hungry when I have plenty of food to eat. I wanted to make a difference in their lives and I thought that this organization could help me accomplish that.
This crucial four years of Highschool is what shapes up a person. Things like friends, families, and new experiences are what teach life lessons and morality. I believe that through the service activities I have taken part of this few years, I learned new qualities about myself and new aspects in life. I have learned the role of a leader, all the charitable things service can offer, and I have built a character. What impacted me the most was the “Jessey J Mcray Elementary School” program, and the Service Day activity I did in freshman year. Volunteering is a great way to bring people together and it provides physical and mental rewards for whoever decides to do it.
For my third trimester service project, I provided help to my school. I went to daycare for two hours helping Mrs. Riley. I helped kindergarteners with their homework inside so that they wouldn’t have any homework to do when they got home. I also helped run a couple games and make sure everyone was making smart decisions on the playground. I then helped Ms. Maynes in the 5th grade classroom for two hours as well. I helped her with cleaning the students desks, I helped with correcting papers and putting them in numerical order, I finished coloring a Mary drawing to put on the bulletin board, and I also helped punch out some letters so she can use them in the classroom. Ms. Maynes was also kind enough to bring me down to the Kindergarten classroom
The service learning activity that has been the most meaningful to me is the Backpack Program. Over the past four years, I have been involved with the Beta Club which is a big contributor to the program. The reason this activity is so meaningful to me is because if affects the peers in my schools who are in need. Every year we are told a story about a student who was receiving items from the program. One afternoon while selecting items, he picked some bananas and stated "My little sister will be exited about these. We have not had fresh fruit at house in over a year." Every time I here that story, it motivates me to help out my fellow Chase High Students. Not only do I bring food, but I bring necessities that someone would need to maintain
Last year I gave my service to others two times. I participated in a community service project, and a service learning project. First I did the community service project.
I chose to do the service project because I love volunteering. When I was younger, I volunteered many places including a camp counselor for 5 years. Volunteering is a great way to help your community. It provides you with a valuable experience that is hard to find anywhere else, because you get to meet great and inspiring people within your community, while also being a helping hand to someone else. Volunteering helps shape young individuals
Not only was I required to find a service project, but I had to plan it and create a proposal, gather materials, coordinate efforts of volunteers, as well as lead the project during the work hours. The project was a period of personal growth for me because I had to adopt new responsibilities that I had previously never even fathomed, even as a leader in my scout troop. I was responsible for the quality of work and everyone’s safety, as well as planning the logistics including work hours and the organization of
An activity that I participate in after and before school is Boy Scouts. In this activity we do many things such as service projects and fun activities during meetings. I have been participating in Boy Scouts since sixth grade, during this time I have participated in many service projects. One example of a recent service project in which I have participated in is, a fellow Boy Scout’s Eagle project. An Eagle project is a service project that, an individual does as part of many requirements to earn the eagle scout rank. The project is organized and run by the scout with little to no help from adults or peers. At the Eagle project we helped renovate roadrunner food bank. More specifically we painted four walkin fridge/freezers, while cleaning

When you think about your family when you were growing up do you remember being together at mealtime or going off doing your own thing? Where these experiences you would like to carry onto your family or change them. As the years pass we as a society become busier and busier with work obligations, our and our children’s extra curricular activities and trying to keep with the everyday things that need to be done. Sometimes it feels as if there is not enough time to cook a meal and sit down together, or is this something that we have just become accustom to saying? It has also been mentioned that eating out or getting take out saves time and money, but even then are we getting the quality time we need with our families? Does it benefit our families to skip this quality time together?
