I was raised in the great, small community known as Tigard. I love my community, the schools, the people, and the opportunities. Coming from a background of low income, my family and I were in a constant need of food, clothes, and home goods. I was lucky enough to have a great community with churches and even neighbors who were always willing to extend a hand and guide my family throughout our experiences. I have my community to thank for my childhood. My home always consisted of an apartment. Living an apartment community has always been a highlight of my life because of the great people I met and the unforgettable memories. However, that quickly changed because, for some reason that then, I did not understand, my friends were moving.
Making a foam boffer sword for LARPing (Live Action Role Playing) is quite simple and affordable. Boffer swords are simply handmade weapons used on the battlefield during LARP events, which typically consist of either a small group of friends or a massive gathering of many people. They are quite sturdy and withstand a large amount of hits as long as they are made well. This depends largely on the amount of effort and time given to the project, as well as choices of materials used. Foam boffer swords allow the LARPer to express his or her creativity, while producing a weapon that will aid them on their adventures.
Watership Down takes place in Sandleford Warren, Enbrone Crossing, Newton Common, and Cowslips Warren, Frith Copse. In the front of the book it has a map which shows where the rabbits have lived and traveled. The rabbits first lived at the Sandleford Warren; however one of the rabbits, Fiver, had a vision that danger was coming. A group of rabbits went with Fiver and his brother, Hazel. The first headed toward Enbrone Crossing. “It was in fact the little river Enbrone, twelve to fifteen feet wide and at this time of year two or three feet deep with spring rain, but to the rabbits it seemed immense, such a river as they had never imagined.”(Adams30) In this story it is May. It’s May, isn’t it? (Adams 12)

I am a PhD student at the Dalla Lana School for Public Health at the University of Toronto. I work as a research coordinator under the supervision of your former colleague Dr. Julia Woodhall-Melnik. Dr. Woodhall-Melnik has recommended the Communications and Dissemination Research Assistant position on "The Community Ideas Factory Project" to me as she knows I am interested in continuing my work in this area. I have two years of experience in knowledge creation and dissemination from institutions such as St. Michael’s Hospital, and I can use the skills I have built to help you on this project.
My strongest advocacy point these day is to create Community Powerhouse Collaborations made up of Parents, Educators and Business for the sole purpose of developing what I call, the Kindergarten CEO. Nurturing, supporting and developing each kids unique skills and abilities to be eventually monitized in some form in a high demand job in the global work place. It's the best way to ease the pressure off the Public Workforce Sysrem and ensure that young people get the "first chance" system opportunity right. We're looking to plan a strategy in Bergen County to address this. If you're interested in supporting our initiaitve, please let me
Service is important to me because I’m a proactive person who likes to be involved and initiate change. My purpose is to help others. The influence I have had on my community is tangible. In April of 2014, I helped lead a fundraiser for a local Suffolk County family that lost their home in a fire. The impact of my service can be found in not only the community members I have assisted, but Long Island itself. My hands have worked the soil all over Long Island as a result of beautification projects I have undertaken with Main Street Organization to embellish local neighborhoods. Every fall, I volunteer at Cross of Christ Church to rake leaves and garden. My passion for the environment has driven the type of volunteer work I have sought, such
In metropolitan urban communities, plagued with economic hardships, social injustice, and violence, rising out of those communities is glorified as the greatest achievement one could earn. In fact, most of my family members and peers congratulated me for being accepted into UNC-Chapel Hill with phrases like, “you made it” and “it’s over.” But, I knew different. I was well aware that attending UNC-Chapel Hill, the first public and most prestigious university in NC would be substantially different than the conditions of my hometown. No longer was I around the likes of my melanin, socioeconomic status, or cultural background, and adjustment proved to be difficult. During my first year a UNC, I endured social isolation, homesickness, academic hardship,
I have always taken great pride in my ability to bring myself out of poverty and to become a well-rounded person. I have suffered through many obstacles along the way, and with great determination, I have been able to overcome them. I know that I have been fortunate and I never take that for granted. Friends and family are a great support system and I am blessed to have the best of both. I work very hard to instill strong beliefs into my children and their friends. It is very important to me that I give back to the community. Understanding social culture and economic provides and even greater sense of wanting to help those that need it. I volunteer through my work with Habitat for Humanity and the Houston Food Bank. My daughter also volunteers
It was early in the morning the sun rose and the birds chirped as we headed east, I visualized every move I made and observed my surroundings. As we continued our search for food, I recognized a voice that did not belong there. Slowly making my way out of the woods, I noticed that these people were not alike from us. They spoke and dressed a different ways from ours. I was not sure who they were, though it was a bit extraordinary to have received people down here. I headed back to my tribe and informed them what I had seen. They seemed to be fine with it, although they were unsure of what they had came for. Days had passed and yet there was still no sign of these people leaving our home. At the time we thought it wouldn’t be a problem however,
Every morning we would be waken up by 7 AM. Breakfast was served by 7:30, and we had to have our lunches made before breakfast.
I have contributed to the Key Communities values by getting to know people in my cluster, I learned that we all came from different backgrounds. I am from a community that is not diverse and surrounded with people that had the same type of perspective on political, economic, etc. views and coming to Key was completely different. I learned that not everyone in Key had the same perspectives as me so I learned to understand where they are coming from and that it is OK to have different perspectives. It did not mean I disliked that person, I just learned that because Key is very diverse that we would be bringing different things to the table. As a cluster, we worked on a service project that we made breakfast for homeless people in Old Town. It
Who would have thought that one animal could make such a difference within a community? The following will detail, how a stray dog inspires a community coalition, to assist other animals, and my experience as a volunteer for the coalition’s very 1st community event. Now, take a further look at
I haven’t been alive for too long and I’ve lived a pretty normal life though I do know of one specific event that changed me forever. On January 12 2010 I came home from school like every other kid in Haiti. It was a completely normal day. My mom was cooking in the kitchen, my aunt was holding my little sister while watching TV, my dad wasn’t home yet and I was by myself in the living room playing games on my dad’s computer. Then out of nowhere I hear a deep low loud rumbling noise. Right when I start to wonder what the noise was, the shaking starts. Being a normal eleven year old kid I just sat there in shock and fear and just watched as my whole world came crashing down around me. Paintings, vases silverware, my moms china set, they were
In these event my life has been completely altered. Whether it was through my personality or physical things. I cannot complain about these events because as far as I know, they have changed my life for the better.
Everyone can remember the one decision that changed their life forever. For myself, that decision was to join a swim team. I can remember the one morning when my mom asked me if I wanted to join the team, and I said yes. I did not know it then, but that choice would impact the rest of my life. From that decision I have learned persistence, leadership, and motivation and these qualities will help shape my life forever. I decided to join the team because I wanted to try something new, something exciting, and I had no idea how much of an impact it would have on my life. From my choice, I have learned many qualities that will help determine, shape, and give me an edge for the rest of my life.
