Personal Narrative: How Soccer Changed My Life

People in this world, have a heart that makes them fall in love. I'm not talking about, love with another person, but instead with an activity, a hobby or a job. As for me, my heart pulled me towards soccer. I was born in Mexico City, and us Mexicans are huge soccer fans. I was raised in a soccer family and ever since, a ball has followed me around my whole life. I have been playing soccer since the age of 3, and I fell in love with the sport as soon as I felt my foot impact the beauty of the ball. All through my childhood, soccer was my life, it was my passion, and I couldn't go a day without playing. I went through what no one wants to go through. We moved to the States and left everything we loved behind. I was young and very easily influenced, so America began to change me. All through middle school up to 8th grade I was still deeply in love with soccer. Although other sports like football and basketball came into my life which I enjoyed playing, soccer was still my favorite.

I became a big football fan, and I drifted from soccer. I began to only watch football, and everything I loved about soccer, was taken its place by the American sport of football. Since, this change of moving to America exposed me to new things that Mexico didn't have, I fell for football. Not only did I like it, but I also wanted to fit in, just like everyone else.

It was the end of the 8th grade, and that love and passion I had all my life for the sport was gone. I didn't have that feeling when I touched a soccer ball and it all just seemed to fade away. During this time, of not playing soccer, I lost myself. I started doing poorly in school, found different friends, and really began to take a different path in life. I began to care more about fitting in and being cool, and I lost the sport that I loved the most. I left my hobby, my sport, and my culture I was raised with that brought me the most
