Hurricane Katrina It was 5:00 AM me and my brother was at our grandparents house. Suddenly we woke up to hard heavy rain pounding the window like rocks were being thrown at it. We got up and went into the living room and sat down. My grandparents just informed us that Hurricane Katrina had just made landfall. What we didn’t know is that we were all about to be changed forever. I still see myself sitting on that couch and listening to the wind whistle outside but not being able to see anything outside because it was so dark. My parents arrived not long after that and we were all together. My grandpas and dad both tried to go to work but got turned around by a police officer. The time that it was day light our power was already out. My grandpa …show more content…
I walked slowly up the stairs and water was rushing down them. I got upstairs and my dad and grandpas was moving stuff out the bedrooms and trying to stop the water from leaking in. My grandpas ran outside with a chainsaw and in the middle of this storm he was cutting it up and rolling this tree off of the roof. This time my mom and dad probably smoked a whole carton of …show more content…
It was my first time walking outside and when I did I was in for a surprise. The trees that were in between the house and the highway were all knocked down. Power lines were down everywhere. I was worried about nothing else but out house which was about 3 miles down the road. The look on my family’s face is one that I will never forget there were no words spoke just disbelief. We got in my dad’s truck and headed to our house. I still remember this like the day was yesterday my dad turned to me and my brother and said “I hope you boys never have to experience anything like this ever again In your life’s.” We got back to our house and it was perfectly fine. A tree fell across the road which would become our tree house for weeks to come. There was no power what so ever so at night there was no air or lights. My dad pulled a mattress into the living room and me, mom, and my brother laid on it and my dad would sit up all night basically fanning us with a huge piece of card
There we were in a house that was so cold and alone. Only one month before the storm hit I was there with a bunch of friends enjoying my world and my life and this house saw so much laughter, fun and good friends come together. It was alive!
We were all scared. My grandpa, dad and I running straight into the track. The only thought there was in my mind was, he isn 't okay. Making sure that he turns over and lays on his back as someone calls 911, I left to go get the cart from the trailer. As I left the track to get it, I start crying, fearing the worst. I run back the track and have my dad help me put the car on the trailer cart and pull it back to the trailer and run back to my uncle. As I got back to my uncle, he was talking some intolerable words. After a few minuets, I heard my name from him.
I remember the day I had to move to Atlanta, like it was yesterday.I remember watching the news and the reported kept repeating that the state of Louisiana was under state of emergency because Hurricane Katrina was coming and that everyone had to leave as soon as possible.Knowing that my home was going to be destroyed, made me feel so broken just because of the fact that there was so many memories there. My family didn't have big enough cars so we was able to take everything that we had in our homes,so most of my childhood pictures,toys,clothes..etc got destroyed. We didn't have a place to stay for like a week or so but eventually we found a shelter in a different part of Louisiana.
We were so scared that we went back up to our rooms and locked it. When we opened our eyes in the morning, the first thing we did was open up the blinds from our room. We were so surprisingly shocked because the whole beach and many other things were destroyed. We were all then thankful for our safety. It was then Tuesday and my parents decided to head back home. But before we left I decided to download the audio about the Olympian Gods, specifically about Poseidon vs. Athena.
My mom parked the truck near the back of the library, while my dad managed to park in front. The library had two floors, one for books and one for events and shelter. Once we were inside I notice there was about 30 people, and at that moment there was no panic so they were spread out. As the noise picked up outside we were asked to have all women and children head to the back of a small hallway near the back corner. I recall looking for my dad and he was by the window with the other guys just looking in awe. Suddenly there was a yelp and an older man order us to duck down hand over our heads. The lights flickered on and off as the wind roars like a lion, the building itself creeks and the floor almost feels like it shivers. The tension is high the mothers try comforting the few kids who panic. Personally I couldn’t panic, but not because I wasn’t afraid it was simply blank. As the sounds subsided we all let out a breath of air thinking the worst had passed. We all relaxed and some of us stared walking toward the door when a swift yell told us to get back into position the tornado was coming back. This time the tornado was worst the roaring, the shaking, the lighting flashing out with a loud boom. Without warning pounding was heard on the other side of the hallway door as we took notice that there was people on the all glass floor. We tried to open the door but it was jammed. A horrifying shattering was
5 days, we were only out of power for 5 days, and yet it felt like an eternity. Hurricane Irma was by no means the worst storm that Florida has experienced but its effects were brutal. We had lost all of our power and our backup generator was suffering from some technical issues. We had no light so my family and I had to take turns using a handheld light to walk around our house with.We had no running water so all 7 of my family members had to take sponge baths. All of the food in our refrigerator had spoiled. The house was so hot that we all decided to sleep on the marble floor downstairs.
After I could move again I went and grab every thing that meant the most to me and held them tight in my arms. My dad went outside and let the dogs lose, so that they can run and find shelter. When he came back in we were sitting in the middle of the den floor holding on to each other. My dad came and set down beside us and told us that every thing was going to okay. I could tell that he was scared that every thing was not okay. When it was ten we could hear the wind blowing up against the house. My dad got up and turned off all the lights in the house, and came back and said that maybe if we didn't see the lights go out it would not be that scary. My brother asked are we going to be okay. My mom told him that we didn't know if we were going to be okay, but we had to hope that will be okay. We started to listening to the wind. It was getting harder and faster, that's how we knew that the tornado was getting closer. My mom told us that if we started to hear a whistling that the tornado was here. I asked her why and she said that the tornado is going so fast that it puts off a sound. I nodded my head and started thinking about every thing I have
The power goes out. Trees are rustling outside due to strong winds and rain. The cause of all this was hurricane Ike. The apartment was dark and hot. There was no AC because of the power outage. We had to use candles and flashlights in order to see. I was uncomfortable for the next 2 days. I could not sleep because of the lack of cool air. The stove and microwave didn’t work so i couldn’t heat up my food. I was 7 or 8 at the time so this was my first hurricane experience. No wifi, no TV, or warm food. I was extremely bored. On the second day, in the morning, my only source of entertainment which was my Nintendo DS, was about to die. The light was blinking red indicating that the battery is low, so I ran for the charger to plug it in. Only seconds
My mom was panicking trying to get my seven brothers and sisters (and of course me) to safety. As mom led us through a small forest, a large lightning bolt hit, I was blinded for a moment and to my terror I heard a large boom. When I could see again a tree lay broken on the ground. Mother screamed for us to run to safety, that was when I realized mom was stuck and I was never going to see her loving face again. I almost cried but I didn’t. As I said, the world is a harsh place for a stray, you have to learn to live on your own at some point in time.
I remember my dad yelling at me to go back in the room and saying “mind my own business.” I became mad, I felt like they put me in their business. I stayed right where I was. My dad started to walk out of the house to leave and my mom began to ran after him. After she grabbed his arm, my dad turned around and pushed her up against the door. Her back was shoved into the door knob and she fell to the ground. I ran over there and got between them and pushed my father away. He ran outside and got in his car and drove away. I never seen someone whip out of the driveway so fast. In the background I hear my little sister crying in my room. My father came back a couple minutes later crying and asking for forgiveness. That was the scariest moment of my life. I felt helpless, I could not protect my mom.
When I was three years old, there had been a hurricane watch forecast for the area. This was somewhat common for that area but not nearly the major emergency that they have become today. We did our preparations and waited out the storm. The next day after the threat had passed I ran out to the backyard to check on the playhouse. It was a cute little one room house painted white, trimmed in red that Daddy had built for my sisters and me. Not knowing that he had nailed the windows shut for the storm, I tried to push it open. When it stuck I pushed harder and put my hand through the glass, cutting the inside of my wrist. It was pretty bad; blood was gushing everywhere, I ran for the house. My parents were
Bang the car door shut and the engine roars with the smell of exhaust on that Easter morning. I was 5 years old getting ready for church and my dad went out and light a burn pile before we left. It was one of the biggest mistakes he ever made and it turned out to be the last mistake. Instead of watching the pile like he should have he left it unattended and came inside the house to get me and my mom that's when everything went horribly wrong. A ember got out and light the grass on fire so we called the fire department to come put it out but by the time they got there we had put the fire out. The fire men wanted to talk to my dad to find out what happened so my dad told them but about five minutes into their conversation my dad fell to the ground. The fire men came and told us that he had passed away right there in a minute I didn’t even get to say goodby.
I was 4 years old. Being the eighth child born in my family, I never really had much attention. I didn’t have any early childhood friends. It seemed as if I were growing up alone, just I didn’t have to make my own meals. Well In the summer of 2004, My youngest sister was just born As Autumn and about half of winter passed over, it was the night of January 9th. My dad was at was at work and my mom was taking care of all the kids at home. The house, usually all rowdy, was quite different than normal. Instead of all of the others playing some board game or playing Hide-n-Seek, they were wandering the house trying to search for the source of a slight odor of smoke. There after a while of them searching, my mom, with my little brother on her hip, opened the hatched to the attic. The smell of flowed throughout the upstairs and that’s when we realized, the house was on fire. My mom called my dad and the fire department. All 10 of the kids rushed to the summer kitchen, only about six feet from the house. Right as the fire trucks raced into the yard and driveway, our helpful neighbors offered us a safer place(their house) to stay while they put out the fire. I wasn’t ready for this escalate of the event. I was wearing only boxers and I was so cold. We weren’t able to reenter the house so i had to improvise to the neighbors clothes which were a bit too small. After watching the house soon turn to flames with the firemen trying their best to get through
It was mid summer. It was basically like any other day.I was careless and kinda didn't realize how fast something so terrible could happen. The night before my dad told me that Kosmans corn pick was the next morning. This is where a lot of people come down to Fort Morgan from all over Colorado and help pick sweet corn for the homeless people in Denver. We were friends with the kosmans the farmers of the corn who we had helped with the corn pick for many years previously. I told my dad the night before to not wake me up I would sleep in and then go. So about nine thirty my dad called and told me to get over there. So I woke up and got dressed and headed over.
I was six years old, sitting in the back of my dad’s truck, my mom was yelling at him, telling him it was time. She stated that her water had already broken. We were going to visit our family members which would’ve taken around half a day to see them. I was afraid of what was going to happen, but also incredibly excited about it. I looked out the window and saw nothing but barren land. There was nothing but dirt and a few dead plants for as far as my eyes could see. I began to slowly roll down my window, but immediately rolled it back up due to the immense amount of heat. My dad called 911, and said that his wife was in labor. He then proceeded to ask if it would be possible to go back to Anaheim, but they
