I am pro-choice, with a few variances. I believe that I have a right care for my body and do what I think is best for myself to a point. If I were raped the first thing I would do is go to the hospital and have a D & C. I am not heartless, I would not want to carry a product of rape.
I know the “back alley” abortions are unsafe. If women is so set on terminating a life of her unborn child then they should be able to do it safely. I believe that it should be hard to get an abortion. That there should not be easily obtained without a lot of soul searching and paper work. This is a life that we are talking about. In the instance where abortion is used as a form of birth control I am totally against it.
At church this Sunday the pastor talked
Women should not be able to make decisions about how to live their lives. Clearly, by the looks of the statistics, with approximately 42 million abortions a year, women are foolish. Women should not have the option of deciding when or whether to have children. They do this by making choices regarding when to have sexual intercourse and what contraceptive methods to use. The government should have all the power to make these decisions. Abortion reflects a women's value, her family, and her career.
I am pro-life. I always have and always will stand firm in my beliefs. I will especially remain firm in my belief that no innocent human being, especially unborn, should have to pay the consequences of someone else’s actions. Realizing that many others tend to disagree, I do not shove my opinions on abortion on anyone. However, being criticized for having the opinion that I do happens all the time and has only solidified my beliefs on this touchy subject of societal controversy. Growing tired of many endless conversations and arguments in my life, I interviewed a member of Planned Parenthood to get more insight on opposing opinions of mine.
I feel that woman should be able to decide if an abortion is right for them and no one else. I feel that this procedure should be legal because if it is not these women will still seek out abortions and will have them performed illegally in unsafe and unsanitary places, which will jeopardize the woman’s health. I also feel that abortions should be affordable since if a woman cannot afford to have an abortion in a reputable place she will seek out a place that she can afford to have this abortion, which can place her health at risk since these procedures are often performed by someone who is not properly trained or licensed to do this procedure.
The foundation of the American Government is built on two ideologies; first, that the majority of the people govern through democratic election and second, that the power of the majority is limited to ensure individual rights. As defined by the American Heritage Online Dictionary a mother is a woman who conceives, gives birth to, or raises and nurtures a child. This paper will discuss the right of privacy of the mother versus the governments’ right to protect the unborn fetus in regard to Abortion.
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. However many People agree to disagree on whether abortion is a legal or illegal matter. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy through removal of the embryo or fetus. I support abortion for the following reasons. Birth control failure, unable to support or care for a child, to prevent a child with birth defects or medical conditions, and a pregnancy in resulting from rape or incest. A woman should have the right to do what she pleases with her own body. For example, say a woman is pregnant with no desire of keeping the child and there was no clinic to help her remove the fetus. She’s most likely going to obtain matters into her own hands and figure a way to abort the fetus herself. Why put women in that situation when they have highly trained doctors who can remove the fetus using the proper tools with no harm done to the mother?
I disagree completely with the idea of abortion being illegal. I also disagree with the government having the right to decide for any woman what she can or cannot do with her body. I am pro-choice. By pro-choice this means that I believe that a woman can and should be able to safely obtain an abortion without being harrassed by pro-life picketers or potentially injured by unregulated procedures or unqualified doctors. Licensed clinics should be set up throughout all 50 states and should be treated by state medical inspectors the way any other surgical establishment is monitored.
I sighed and looked at the test, and she was telling the truth, I was pregnant. It was entirely impossible, but that is not what scared me. I threw the test away and picked up my phone. I dialed Ashton’s number, thankfully he was awake. “Dals, it’s three am? What do you need?” Ashton’s raspy voice had shook me to tears. “Look, I just need to talk to you alright.” I say and went into the bathroom. “Ashton, I just took a pregnancy test, and it came up positive, I really need brotherly fucking advice right now!” I cry and he was speechless. “Isnt Michael..” He trailed off and I stayed quiet. “It’s michaels, great.” Ashton sighed. Brooklyn had stirred awake and asked him who he was talking too. The line was quiet for a moment till Brooklyn had
Overall, I don't believe abortion should be a method that should be restricted and women should not be frowned upon society for her choice over her body, abortion is a choice that a woman would not want to re-live. Harder abortion laws will push women to the edge to make the harsh decision of getting an illegal abortion which may lead to her death. If women can't have the right to have a say over their
Around the world many women are receiving abortions legally and illegally. I believe receiving abortions should be against the law, with the exception of rape and incest. Taking the life of an unborn human being is not only cruel but wrong. The decision of taking another human beings life should not lie in our hands.
Abortion rights are one of the most heatedly debates in society. There are many arguments for and against abortion. Each woman has the right to an abortion and the right to have a child. Women have the resources, rights, and respect to make reproductive health decisions that are best for themselves. (“Women’s”) We live in a free country and women should continue to have the choice to do whatever with their body, concerning women’s rights, health issues, and religious reasons.
Having a pro-choice viewpoint is not something that a person chooses overnight. I went through seven years of sexual education before I really understood abortion and could make an educated decision on my choice of sides. I have gone from being totally against the abortion procedure, to fully accepting it. I believe that before you can really say that you do not believe in abortion you have to come up against it in your own life. I know several women who have had abortions, not so they could party or have fun, but so they wouldn't ruin their entire lives because of a mistake. They weren't particularly overjoyed about it - no one is - and all are good, decent people
I believe abortions are morally permissible. It is a procedure that will occur whether legal or not and I have no moral or legal imperative to prevent a woman from receiving safe medical intervention if she makes that decision. There are no comparable medical procedures where people feel they have a right to prevent a competent adult from exercising their options. Individuals that believe that abortion is immoral have no authority to offer opinions on medical treatment for anyone but themselves. If they are offended by abortion they should not have one.
Being a female in today’s society, I personally do not counsel abortion but it should available for women who want it. Abortions can be very unfortunate, but women should have the right to receive one despite others views about it. Actually, studies show that only 52 percent say they know someone who has had an abortion (Traister). There are far bigger issues to worry about than whether if a woman wants to keep her child or not. Essentially, nobody should be telling anybody how to live their life. I do not agree with extremists against abortions because they harshly judge women who get abortions, calling them “killers”, or telling them they will go to hell. Everyone makes mistakes and we are all not perfect. Additionally, there can be many reasons behind why a woman wants an abortion such as the fear of transmitting STD’s, living in an abusive house or dangerous area, birth defects, being raped, or not being
Almost all abortions occur during the first trimester when the fetus cannot live outside of the mother’s body. People who are pro-choice believe that “at birth, a baby is a human life. At conception, it 's something, perhaps, but it 's not really a human life (McDowell).” In other words when the baby has a heart beat it is not a human life. Or when the baby is kicking inside the mother’s womb it is not a human life. The child is not a human life until it is outside of the mother’s body. In the case of rape or incest, forcing a woman made pregnant by this violent act would possibly cause further psychological harm to the victim (Lowen). More often than not the woman who was sexually assaulted is too afraid to speak up against her attacker.
This also will bring out the chauvinistic side of me but I also feel the woman is more responsible for providing birth control. If a pregnancy occurs because of rape and the woman was not allowed to abort it then I feel that numerous lives would be affected. The woman who has this child would feel the emotional and possibly the physical scars for the rest of her life. This would be carried on to the child and probably onto any future relationships and future children she might have. Every one is not the same, some women might be able to handle the situation with little difficulty and some might have great difficulty. I believe this is the main reason to be Pro- Choice.
