Most of us at one point in our life or another have had a friend in which writing comes easy. They can write anything from a personal narrative to a research paper with no issues. However this is not the cause for most of us, we worry and stress about getting a good grade or even how to format our papers. This is writing anxiety, and it can cause some major road blocks, when it comes to getting the results we want. I hate writing and have since I was younger. I had to take English as a second language when I started school not because it was my second language but because I am dyslexic and it prevented me from reading almost at all and severely limited my writing skills. I was finally able to overcome most of my issue by the time I turned
How can I become a better writer? Throughout my writing experiences, I have learned I have many weaknesses along with strengths. My experiences with writing has not always been the best, but over time, with lots of practice and instructions from my instructors, I can proudly say that I have gained a better understanding on the layout of essays and papers. As well as understanding how to write correctly my goal as a writer is to learn how to overcome my weaknesses and use my strengths to my highest ability. I have many strengths, weaknesses and goals that I plan to achieve and overcome in my college career.
My earliest experience with writing was my learning period that formed not only my style of writing but how I studied and the ability to apply words and concepts into a structured format. The process at first was difficult because it was my first time being exposed to structured writing which caused me to put it off until the last minute or lose interest in the topic I was writing about. The rowdy classroom was eager to release near the end of the day, but we knew we had to face one of the more uninteresting subjects of the day: middle school English. The teacher thoroughly explained our assignment which made each one of us cringe. The class finally initiated work mode and I was clueless. I would start to make progress but would be constantly
My experiences as a writer have been both very engrossing and strenuous. I have learned a great quantity on both reading and writing, though, I continue to struggle on things that I have learned by this time, making the same mistakes that I do not even realize. Sometimes things are not so easy to understand when reading information, especially if the wording of an article is difficult for example. I love the idea of learning new things everyday. These past years as a writer have been very interesting, and I have learned and grasped many concepts I have been taught along the way.
Through this assignment, I have learned some new writing skills and recalled some of the writing strategies I learned from my previous writing courses at UC Davis. For instance, I learned that free-write is a good technique in writing because it allows writers to write down all their ideas without judging them. I will definitely apply this technique in my future assignments not only in this course, but also other courses that require me to write.
Ever since I can remember I have always struggled with writing. I believe that Spanish
I've loved writing since I was a young child, especially creative writing. It allows me to express myself, and it seems almost magical to be able to create things simply by writing down a few symbols and twenty-six letters in various ways. I've written many fictional stories of various genres over the years. Unfortunately, while I have done a lot of creative writing, I haven't done as much academic writing. I would like this class to help me become the kind of student who earns A's on her papers by assisting me in becoming more efficient in the overall writing process.
The writing process feels different to me depending on the topic I am writing about. Topics I don’t care for feel very long and tedious and it seems like I’m spending more time thinking about what to write than actually writing. Topics that I do like on the other hand feel much easier to write about and can feel like I’m almost rambling. My writing process begins with a fairly lengthy brainstorming session.
My first thought about writing is dreadful, writing does not come natural for me is hard to focus on a main theme and then tried to expand on it. So for me writing would be the sooner I can finish the faster I can get it over with. However writing has also improved many of my lacking skills. I learn how to shape the body for writing, creating an outline and different ways on brainstorming. I still need a lot of help improving or developing writing skills. Also taking a few of writing classes has even improved any basic writing work I do, I improve my resume, referral letters also I can say that my communication has improved.
There are many aspects that I would like to change to improve my writing skills. The first thing I would like to do is imply what my main idea is instead of stating it. The main reason I want to improve on this is because I feel that my writing style doesn’t change. I want my writing to be complex. I know that implying the main idea can be a little tricky. I’ve been researching and I’m learning that I need to find the common bond among the details in the passage. I think this issue affected me when I took college composition one because I chose to write an essay about school lunches affecting children’s diets. For the body of my paragraph, every sentence began with “the school association needs to”. My style was just too plain and boring. I
I gathered the Information and skills to learn this by writing a lot and always asking someone else their opinion or how to do it if I didn’t know it.
I believe my approach with writing has drastically changed throughout this semester. I have learned to become more prepared and take my time in writing my essays rather than just jumping into them without a clue of what is to come. I grew even more than I had originally expected. I’ve been able to share some things that have happened in my past, and I have been satisfied with how I was able to write them. I’ve learned more about commas and sentence structure this year than I’ve learned in the last two years combined. Two areas that still need improvement are my grammar and my commas. I do not always pay attention to what I am saying, and I just ramble on without going back to check what I wrote. Most of the time it gets pretty crazy.
In this semester my achievement of improving my writing skills has increased significantly. My sentence lengths vary in a positive manner along with my word choice improving, becoming more complex and of writing expectation. My main struggle this semester would be the peer editing. Although I have improved significantly I still find it difficult to edit others papers. Further more than the common spelling and grammatical errors. I believe my essays have improved drastically from the beginning of the semester towards the end.
Writing is one of the components in English that gradually took many effort and dedication. My experience in writing so far has improved. Writing was one of the things, I struggled with in school. My writings were on topics, books, and poems. In High school, I knew I needed to improve in writing, so in my Junior and Senior year I took Advanced Placements classes for English.
“Most of the time when I want to write I get depressed when I think about writing. Sometimes I do have an idea but it's hard to me to put them on paper, I don't know why but sometimes when I'm trying to write about idea its look like I forget everything” this is the sentence that I start my first Journey of this semester and from this time until now I learn a lot of new things and now I have an idea that how I can write correctly. I think that I find my fear of writing was because I don’t know how to write and now I have an Idea about writing and all I need some practice. As I see my biggest problem is how to use verb tense and where should I put a comma, but that problem is not big as the problem that I have at the start of the semester. I
In my freshman year, I needed that help with my grammar and writing. I sought an assistance from the teachers or tutors, but I didn’t not receive the help I needed. These are the reasons I cannot be a good writer as I want to be.
