For as long as I can remember, I have loved helping people, and my career at Osceola High School has helped me pursue this passion of mine. From Student Council and National Honors Society, to working as a teacher's aide, to volunteering at PeeWee Basketball, I have found that there is nothing I would rather do than help others.
My passion really kicked off freshman year, when I traveled to Virginia with my church for my first mission trip. I was so nervous and hesitant about going, but little did I know that this trip would change my entire life. I was fortunate enough to be able to help a married couple who were not financially stable, and were facing some health issues. In less than 5 days, my group was able to repair the outside of their trailer house, put new skirting under the trailer, fix the roof, and build a ramp for their wheelchair to roll down. I was very much out of my comfort zone, and at first I wasn't a huge fan of it, but after the first day, all my

Continuing into the rest of my high school year, I had many different opportunities to make a difference. I attended 2 more mission trips, each impacting me more, but I also received the chance to be a member of National Honors Society. Being a part of NHS has also opened my eyes to many new experiences. Through NHS, I was able to go to a nursing home and talk to the elders, trick or treat for non perishable food items for the food shelf, and help at a blood drive through the high school, put on by the American Red Cross. No matter what we were doing, my life kept changing and my passion kept growing.
Being able to change someone's life is so rewarding and it is something I want to do for the rest of my life. From all the positive experiences I have encountered, I have decided to major in social work. Knowing I can go to work every day and change lives one by one is what I want to do forever, and I can’t wait to start my new
I have always been in love with the game of softball. I love all the competition and the thought of working at it brings joy to my heart. I could always go to the field to get my mind off things and just focus. But in May of 2015 my life changed and I had a whole new mind set on everything.
Coming to Citrus Hill High school was a big transition for me within itself. I originally transferred from rancho verde to get away from the trouble and focus more on the things that were important to me, like my school work and baseball. I had heard from the people around that there was a good program there play baseball there. When I came I thought my year would be good new start, new school, new surroundings nothing could go wrong.. Shouldn’t have said that. When i got there my anger issues have gotten in the way and has held me back from achieving many of the goals i set for myself before the school year began. For example, starting off good in all my classes keeping my grades up and making the baseball team. I’ve had previous conversations
The summer of my freshman year I took a trip back to Ghana, my homeland. While I was there, I worked with some volunteer doctors at a local orphanage. My time was spent playing games with the children, helping then with their homework and just spending time with them. I assisted the doctors with a routine check-up for the children and even held the hand of a little girl while she was getting her shots. It was an enlightening experience that furthered my passion for
My eyes repeatedly peered to the stands which had a crowd of at least four hundred students eagerly waiting as we were warming up. Observing the crowd I noticed the left side of the field was full of students in orange Parkview High School shirts while to my right students were in purple Brookwood High School shirts. It was the Lacrosse Region Championships between Parkview, the school I played for, and, Brookwood High School. Both of our schools were ranked top ten for biggest rivalries, we knew it would be a fight to win the most significant game for us.
Hi Algina, I'm Carol and I also went to Ocoee high school but I graduated last year. I think it's really good that you decided to take dual enrollment because you'll be able to get your college credits faster. Even though you haven't chosen a major I think that you should try to volunteer or learn more about things that interest you, so that it will be easier for you to choose a major. Just like you I also enjoy cooking, but mainly desserts and also listening to music. For your two truths and a lie it's kind of hard guessing which one it is because you didn't give any clues on your post, but I'm gonna go with the second one that says you have lived in Florida all your life, because some people move to Florida after some time living somewhere
How are you? I hope this letter finds you well. My homesickness is creeping towards me like an ominous cloud foreboding a thunderstorm. It’s frightening me, but I am sure the storm will pass quickly. The first sense of these feelings were ignited when I was walking to my dorm and it started pouring rain. In Southern California, where I was born and raised, rain is scarce. Deerfield has been great, but I yearn for the salty smell in the air from the ocean and the feeling of the sun on my skin. Thousands of question race through my mind as I recall my time back home. Was the move to Deerfield a good decision? Am I going to make it out alive during the winter? Should I have came this far? As I am writing this letter, the answer to all those questions is a gargantuan yes. I know the commitment I made to attend Deerfield Academy is miles away from my comfort zone, literally, but growth and
You would have never thought that life could fall apart and then come back together just in a blink of an eye, could you? You’re right, no one could ever thought of that, because it never happens. One day everything is fine and moving smoothly and then it just all suddenly explodes with everything being destroyed. It was all just like any other normal day, nothing exciting happens, nothing entirely bad happens, just completely still and normal. I, Natalie Price, am a senior at George Mason High School, North Carolina and I’m going to be graduating in 4 months. Being towards the end of my high school years, I’ve been a little stressed trying to rush and push my school work to get done, but with just one phone call my stress levels are going
Throughout my two years attending Oakland High School, there have been many impactful educational experiences. The choices that I have made during the last two years here have shaped me into the significant leader I am today.
My alarm went off at 4:45a.m. As soon as I heard it, I knew I had a long day ahead of me. My parents started screaming and telling everyone to get in the car. My mom, dad, two brothers (Nico and Adrian), grandfather, and I all put our luggages in the car and got seated. At 5:00 a.m. we were out the door and on the road for a 10 hour drive to Seaside, Florida.
Being kind to each and every person you talk to can be challenging, but the impact that you may have on them can be remarkable. School is one of the cruelest places for a pre-teen or teenager. Girls and boys can single you out and laugh at you because you do not look the same. Many children feel as if they are not as good as others.
Jayd and I planned and planned for weeks. I went on 90.3 The Bridge and made an announcement and I put flyers up everywhere in Columbus yet we had gotten no calls or emails about teams so we could only hope that people will show up at the event. We had our tournament at Columbus East High School in the auxiliary gym on March 12, 2016. As excited and prepared that we were we still had no community participation making our senior project a failure. Jayd and I were devastated because we had no idea what were gonna do. At this point our biggest fear was not being able to graduate and having to repeat our senior year. Nothing could be worse than this and Jayd and I were freaking
I am currently a student attending Grandville High School and am looking for my first job. Although I do not have actual work experience, I work well with people of all ages and have experience with organization and time management, skills I have learned from my 5 years of volunteering at the local library, helping with events such as carnivals, registering people for the summer reading program, and also promoting the library and its programs. This past school year, I have taken 3 honors classes, 1 A.P. class, 1 foreign language class, and participated in the school symphony orchestra. I worked hard to learn my material to keep up with the fast pace of my classes and finished the year with all A's. Outside of class, I play the piano and was
I was always interested in volunteering and helping others, but I did not get into it until I got involved with the National Honor Society at my high school. The program required us to do at least 10 hours of volunteering each semester. During the time, I was also in the process of becoming to be a volunteer at United Hospital. I already had the ambition to do volunteer work, but now I had the opportunities to actually do it. Volunteering at a hospital was not what I had expected it to be. To be honest, it was quite boring, because it felt like I was just sitting around most of the time waiting to be needed. But the feeling I got after volunteering made it all worth it. Knowing that I could have spent the day doing something else, but choosing to be here and to actually make a difference have me a feeling of elation. Same with the work I did with the
The interconnectedness of math, science, and humanities epitomizes the beauty of education. Throughout high school and even college students will often isolate themselves in a specific field, thus disabling their ability to see the true beauty of the entire educational picture. Hofstra University, miraculously, superimposes the field of Natural sciences and Humanities and develops new understandings in student’s philosophy, ambitions, and traditions. Living in Hempstead, I have the privilege of integrating Hofstra’s campus and amenities as an extension of my high school experience. Just last year, for instance, a few peers and I were invited to the presidential debate at Hofstra; we conversed with media outlets, professors, and
I have a passion for serving others and putting people before myself. I am someone who loves people and loves doing what I can to help out in others lives. I enjoy being able to brighten peoples days and just show kindness and compassion. It’s a passion of mine to help others and serve. I have been involved in a total of four mission trips that have been organized through my church along with other service projects. Two of the mission trips I have been to the Dominican Republic and the other two have been to South Carolina. One of the service projects I have been involved in is called Feed The Hungry and I’ve also helped with the Bryantsville Hunger Relief Project. These mission trips and serving opportunities have been life changing for me and really show
