This essay is about many things that I have to put in 1,000 words. What I’ll be writing first is my learning style which is do I learn better with a visual or listening. The next paragraph is about brain dominance which is left brain and right brain I’ve taken test to so that I know if I am more right or left brained. Later you will read about my three Everest goals which are separated into my MYP learner profile goal, academic goal, and my behavior goal. Then you’ll read about my color personality which by far was the most fun test that I took because the color result that I had was actually my favorite color. After that paragraph the next paragraph is about me as a global citizen. I’m a tactile learner. Being a tactile learner means …show more content…
Having the brain dominance of the left brained means that you’re a critical thinker, you’re logical, and reasoning of things. If you’re more right brained then that is completely the opposite you’re creative, you might like music, and you are good at recognizing faces. In this test that I took (http://braintest.sommer-sommer.com/en/) it said that I was more left brained then right brained, and I 100% believed this because I am not very creative and I feel like I’m more logical than creative. For example most of the time I win debates last year in the 6th grade we had to do debating about certain topics with about 10 reasons for pros and 10 reasons for con. Anyways, after I made a valid point in the argument no one would really say anything else after that. I got a good grade because I was more dominant on the left side of the brain so I was more …show more content…
I took a test that was made by a psychologist (http://curiousfacts.us/a-renowned-psychologist-says-there-are-4-personality-types-based-on-4-colors-which-are-you/) it made the most sense to take that test first because it was made by a person who studies the mind and behavior. Like I said red was the color result and red is my favorite color which was kinda weird to me, but red means that you’re a person always driven to get the work done correctly and in time. Sometimes this goes for me and sometimes it doesn’t. Now in this test (http://365tests.com/personality-tests/free-color-personality-test/) that I took the color results were the same but it had a little different meaning to what the color personality was. For this test red meant the I was a leader/promoter, even though it was more of a test more adults because it was talking about co-workers, deadlines, and stuff like that I could see that the results were accurate
The worker contacted Misty Black who is a friend of Brittany Hardin. Mrs. Black stated “Brittany was in a situation where her ex (well she told me they were already broken up at the time) had assaulted her. Brittany had called me after Ronita Grady had hit her so I immediately called the police and made my way to Brittany. When I arrived the OCPD were already there speaking to Brittany. The officers also spoke to me and I told him I was the one who called them. After the police left Brittany and the boys stayed with me for a couple days because Brittany was still shaken up. The boys all seemed okay, I don’t think they really knew what had just happened. Brittany thanked me for helping her, because at the time we weren’t really speaking to
When the two men went to the same car dealership to see who would be helped in a decent manner, the salesman of the same racial descent as the African American tester, Glenn, was completely ignored. The white American tester, John, got help within the first few seconds of browsing from the same African American salesman that ignored Glenn (Harvey 1991). I was also surprised that Glenn was assumed to be attempting to commit a crime when browsing the record store, despite no obvious suspicious acts (Harvey 1991). Even when the two show the same need for assistance inside a store or in a parking lot, Glen was always ignored. Even the prices of items John asked about almost doubled when Glenn asked. Furthermore, when interviewed for job positions Glenn got lectured upon laziness, being late, and drug abuse, despite the preference on race over a criminal background (Pager 2007). Lastly, I was surprised they didn’t see who would be more likely to get help or hired in an inner city.
Left-right brain dominance is about the fact that the distinct hemispheres influence thinking. The left hemisphere is associated with logical, analytical thinking and a linear approach to problem solving. The right hemisphere is associated with creative, intuitive and value-based thought process. It is important to note that everyone uses its both hemispheres, but to varying degrees. Four quadrants of the brain, related to different thinking style, have been identified:
I am an African American. You must be wondering what’s my name since im “black”, you might be thinking that its ghetto, right? No need to know where I came from, you must think that I come from the projects right? It’s not like it’s important to you. You probably think that my future plans are that I won’t finished high school and that I will become pregnant. One look at the color of my skin is all it takes. Right? Look again.
I’d like to say I’m a very unique person. Not because of my hair, the way I dress, or how I look, but because of the unique things I bring with the person I am. All my life I’ve been the minority. From my preschool, to my church, my elementary and high school. Being black is something I embrace. I love my melanin skin tone, my nappy hair and I love teaching others about being a young black educated women. It hasn’t always been like that though. For majority of my life I use to try and fit in with the crowd. I use to always wear my hair straight so I could look like the girl standing next to me. My natural hair was beautiful too my mom and everyone else around me, but I felt like I had to step up and wear my hair straight everyday just to feel
Everyone in their life will face a barrier. A barrier is a challenge or obstacle that makes it difficult or prevents you from moving forward. Some examples of a barrier you would face would be a death in your family, drugs or alcohol, etc. My barrier that I faced was of the unknowing. My friends and family were all involved with my barrier. I have my barrier everywhere I go. I've been faced with my barrier for a ew years now.
Too black for the White kids, yet somehow too white for the Black kids, oh the perils of a cappuccino mixed race kid. But it’s true. My life since I was young, at least younger than my eighteen year old self, has been about which group do I most fit in with. Between the four school changes over the course of twelve years, all in white suburban towns I’ve molded myself into an array of characters.
Hello my name is Trenard Jackson. I’m 20 years of age I am from Prattville, Al . I will be telling you about my experience of being black. Being raised by a single mother of 5 boys but also by my father of many wives and 3 mixed race kids. I never could actually find myself or at least I didn’t know how to. I always had diverse friends. Growing up I would visit my white friend house almost every weekend and they taught me how to present myself as a intelligent young man I am today. When I left they’re house I would go back home to this dysfunctional home I would be taunted with words from my older siblings with words like “ did you have fun over your white friend’s house.” or things like “did you enjoy your new family”.
The whit jelly bean fits my personality the best. Firstly white’s surroundings are very neat and organized. This fits me because my room and backpack are always clean and everything has its own place. I love being clean and organized which is one reason white fits me. Secondly whites like to know the exact requirements to their work before they start. When writing a paper or doing some other work I like to know exactly how to do what I am asked so I do not mess up. When I know the exact requirements for my work I am more confident in my work. Thirdly whites are very deliberate when making decisions. This fits me because when faced with a decision I think of all the consequence before I make my choice. When I know I made the right
The role that my racial identity has played in shaping my educational and career goals begins with how it has shaped me as a person. Growing up as Half-Somali and Half-White and learning to embrace my biracial identity was one of the biggest struggles I have overcome. Being faced with a severe lack of representation and microaggressions as something that I dealt with my entire life, and still continue to. Now, the difference is how I feel about my racial identity. Before, one of the main aspects I dealt with is not feeling fully accepted by either side of my identity and by society as a whole. My parents separated when I was two, and I have lived with my mother since. This isolated me from my Somali identity completely. Although my mother did
I am a woman of color. I grew up in a city with 90% hispanics yet my community still has ideas that the entire world believes, white people are better. Although that was the collective thought of the city, my parents did not allow that thought to resonate in their parenting style. My parents came from El Salvador and became American citizen just before I was born. I grew up with them showing me how the world was viewed, full of race, but explaining that the concept was something my generation could push through. They believed in me and allowed me to express myself in any way. My parents understood that having multi languages and playing sports were ways of surpassing the boundary that white people have put on colored communities; so even in
In a previous class based on diversity I remember reading about Susie Guillory Phipps and her astonishment to learn being classified as black on her birth certificate when she had spent her entire life believing that she was merely a caucasian woman. I can understand her dismay and learning new and valuable information about herself but what I can not fathom is why she wanted so desperately to change it. What would have been wrong with knowing you had some African American lineage? I then remember that those were different times and I’m sure Susie was raised to think and act a certain way about others who she deemed unlike her.
I come from a middle class background. My mother is a criminal defense attorney and my father is a neurosurgeon. I was fortunate enough to have parents who always provided everything that my siblings and I ever wanted or needed. However, my parents definitely put limitations on what all they would buy my siblings and I. For example, when I turned 16 I wanted a new car that cost around 30k. But, my parent’s thought that the car was too nice and too expensive for a 16-year-old girl to have. As a result, my parent’s ended up buying me a much cheaper car that only cost around 20k. Although I was annoyed that I couldn’t get the car that I wanted, I realized that I was lucky to have a car at all. I also feel fortunate that with the help of scholarships and my parent’s I’m able to pay for my college education. So, although I don’t come from a rich background I’m fortunate and thankful to not come from a poor background either.
Left brain thinkers have a different way at arriving to solutions then right brain thinkers
Most significantly, the left-brain is often described as being better at: language, logic, critical thinking, numbers, and reasoning (Cherry, 2014). The positive effects of the left sided brain learners are that they can easily and quickly evoke names rather than appearances and express with very few gestures thus evolving much more robust communication patterns. Left sided learners are also highly systematized and and have great time management skills and enjoy creating lists to plot out plans day to day. Left brainers are more likely to thrive in certain careers such as; computer programmers, accounting firms, engineering plants and many more technical career fields.
