As a scholar practitioner I am constantly being challenged with quoting and paraphrasing other resources. I would like to say this has been an easy journey, but really I feel that I am still learning . I try to be self aware of this when completing assignments and I try my best to follow the feedback from instructors. To me, an individual who does not follow these standards is being careless, unethical and unprofessional. Plagiarism is also described as not giving credit to the source and identifying the material as if it were your own (American Psychological Association, 2010). The following paragraphs will identify where plagiarism has occurred and offer a solution.
The passage that was provided presented challenges for me to identify the
Plagiarism is a serious issue that may diminish the value of a scholarly work and interferes with the professional growth of an individual. For example, in 2003, Jayson Blair resigned from his position as a reporter for the New York Time because of “alleged plagiarism” (Dolak, 2003). Another case of plagiarism would be Matthew C. Whitaker, an associate professor at Arizona State University who in 2011 and 2015 was accused of plagiarism (Ryman, 2017). In both scenarios, Jayson Blair and Matthew C. Whitaker failed to properly paraphrase and cite sources (Dolak, 2003; Ryman 2017).
During my two last years of high school, i've been in contact with a lot of colleges and universities. Many of which don’t get my attention. Throughout my whole high school years, there was only one college that i wanted to go to, Liberty University. I have heard so many wonderful things about Liberty and what i loved the most was that it was a christian school. Liberty had the number one thing that i am looking for in a college, that is a christian school, but many of my other things that i look for in a college where just not there. I used to live in Florida approximately 11 years ago and let me tell you, it's hard not to miss the sunshine state. Liberty is in Virginia, a state where it doesn't feel like home. When i received a brochure
The authors stresses the importance of “Any idea, explanation, or argument you have paraphrased or summarized must be properly cited.” as “without proper acknowledgement is guilty of plagiarism”. Plagiarism is a criminal offence and many students have lost their opportunity for higher education in college as well as businesses who have been sued over this matter. The writers also mentioned a shocking fact “even it if was unintentional”, it still plagiarism. Some solutions to avoid plagiarism is paying “attention and effort can eliminate” the chances of plagiarism. Finally, always check and double
I have worked for The Advocate, a Baton Rouge award winning newspaper, for more than 23 years. When I first hired on in May of 1992, it was only to be a temporary job until I finished college. Before computers and electronic layout programs simplified this process with the click of a button, people had to cut out and paste the stories, pictures, and advertisements that appeared in the daily newspaper. This was my job: I was a Compositor. I worked evenings so this allowed me the availability to go to school during the day. I have always been a hard worker and taken pride in whatever assignment I was given. This character trait was recognized by others and I was quickly promoted to other jobs. As the computer age and world wide web came to life,
Scholarly personal narrative (SPN) was developed by Robert Nash who integrated the personal story into resect. SPN study tells a story that can clarify an issue beyond a specific case studied (p. 127, Brookfield). SPN is a research method that brings the researcher’s personal experience as a legitimate study form (p. 1, Heidelberger & Uecker).

When I first think of education making an impact on my life, my immediately goes to the teacher that inspired me to pursue the field of education: Mr. Quesenberry. The truth is, I never expected to enjoy his 8th grade Civics class. Though I had many wonderful social studies teachers before 8th grade, each year history was always one of my least favorite subjects, and I expected Civics to be the same. Before I took his class, I thought that the government was just a bunch of old rich guys who made laws and ran the country, and I didn’t have the slightest idea about the many complicated issues that the United States was facing or about what I could do to get involved and fight for my values.
We human beings are all works of art. Every experience that we have is a new stroke of paint to our canvas. The things that influence us do the same. I am not a completed work of art, but I can show my progress of what makes me. I am influenced by the media, my teachers, and the neighborhoods I lived in. Now here is the showing of my work.
I would be an outstanding student in Spelman College's faculty classes because I am hard worker. My work has always came first even when I had experienced a big transition in my life I didn't allow that to stop me from doing my work. My work was always a outlet for me to express myself and to show my teachers how I really think. For instance, in my English Composition Class we read a poem called "I Want A Wife by Judy Brady" then we read a book named "Fences by August Wilson", and one day we were in class discussing the poem in the book and it shocked my teacher when I made the connection between the two. I thought my teacher made us read "I want a wife" because in the book "Fences" the main character named Troy expected everything in that
My plan for academic literacy involved active engagement in my learning by participating in blackboard discussions and collaborates, as well as working on my time management skills and motivation to ensure that I was able to keep up with the required readings and complete all required assessments on time. Following the first Assessment, I contacted Open Universities Student Coaches who offered me advice on how to better manage my time, which I had intentions of implementing prior to a health issue that proved to be both ongoing and debilitating. As a result of my ongoing health issues, much of my planning fell by the wayside.
Learning opportunities have been employed throughout the project that have helped me grow as a student and leader. During the being of the project the social science team were assigned to complete training to prepare for field study, laboratory work, and greenhouse procedures. In order to conduct focus groups, training was needed from the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). The curriculum for the CITI program focused on social and behavioral research. It discussed topics such as the Institutional Review Board process and important cases that set future standards for social science researchers today. After completion of the CITI training course I received a certificate. Since our research project consisted of teams from
This semester I have improved so much in my academic skills. The one area where I improved the most was note taking. In high school, I would copy word for word what was on the slides, and nothing the teacher would say. In college, I no longer copy every word, however, just rephrase it and write more of what the professor says during the slides. I do not think I improved my organization because I am already a really organized person. I still do not like to study as much as I should be, so my study strategies have not improved this semester.
On March 16, 2016, I shadowed Michelle in 7A (toddler unit) and radiology, which was an eventful day full of thought-provoking and noteworthy patient interactions. Through my shadowing experience and observations, I gained knowledge on the way that child life is utilized in unique patient situations, how fast-paced inpatient units can be, how to properly prioritize patients, how to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team, how to properly rate psychosocial distress risk, how to handle bereavement situations by providing memorial based activities, charting techniques and so much more. This week I was able to reflect back to my knowledge of development so that I could better relate our coursework to my practicum experiences. In this journal,
Nicole would like to achieve the goal of leading well both spiritually and academically. She wants to achieve this both for herself and others. This matters to Nicole because to be able to lead others you first must be leading yourself spiritually and academically well before you can pour into others. Learning how to become both spiritually and academically has been a journey for Nicole throughout her college career as she has made changes to herself along the way and has been able to learn from others what this means to be both spiritually and academically well. Nicole would like to be able to do this for herself because being rounded in these areas will better herself ultimately and even if she doesn’t hold a leadership role publically, knowing that she has improved in these areas will over all be in her best interest.
