I did not attend a typical “brick and mortar” high school. The local school district did not meet the educational standards set by TEA (Texas Education Agency) and therefore was rated academically unacceptable. My parents weren’t financially able to send my siblings and I to a private school so we decided, as a family, to attend a “virtual” school. I knew I had to be organized and well-prepared in order to, not only “pass” my classes, but to fully understand the information that was presented to me.
The experience essentially required me to maintain a strong sense of self-motivation and determination if I wanted to truly succeed. I was very fortunate to be able to complete my education without the distractions and pressures a student attending public school was faced with.
After graduating from high school, I had considerable anxiety when imagining myself at a large university. I always assumed I would go to a community college close to home and eventually branch out by attending a larger university. This plan took a turn in a rather different direction, however, when a member of the international Philanthropic Educational Organization told me about a small liberal arts school in Missouri, known as Cottey College. My first initial thoughts were that

Cottey College’s wide range of diversity among both the students and professors gave me a multicultural perspective and heightened appreciation of the world I live in. The small class sizes and student/faculty ratio gave me the intimate atmosphere that I so much desired. Furthermore, the volunteer and internship opportunities at Cottey allowed me to develop skills necessary for successfully planning, coordinating, and carrying out volunteer events, as well as helped me in improving my communication skills, all of which are skills I hope to continue improving on at my transfer
Penn Charter provided me and my classmates the equal and outstanding opportunity to pursue higher education among the best universities in the country. It also offered an additional advantage. I was surrounded by a wide range of people different from myself, and we became friends, shared memories, and explored similar passions. In class, we worked together to succeed. We got to know each other’s strengths and personalities, both of which were not defined by our cultural backgrounds. By attending Penn Charter, I learned that all people are equally qualified to seek success.
East Carolina University is and has always been a dream school for many students including myself. I have grown up hearing about the University and it is nothing short of spectacular. Many family members of mine have attended East Carolina, and I have always pictured myself at this school. It would be an honor to be a pirate. Throughout high school I have struggled in Science and Math. I know I could have done better in high school but in life you can always do something better, im eager to push myself more and work harder than ever to succeed as an adult, if given the chance There are many times when I should I have put school in front of my extra curricular activities such as dancing, art, work, tennis, and swimming. However, all of those
The variety of people and opportunity adds to the richness of the campus. The campus life offers the level of diversity I seek, the kind I can't find here at RCAD. The depressingly small, 1,200-student school prohibits me from learning anything about the world's cultural foundation, while NYU boasts excellent ethnic diversity. The atmosphere at RCAD is suffocating me. My growth is being stunted. I've done the research, identified my needs, and selected the school where I know I'll thrive. NYU has what I need to become the scholar, writer, and citizen I must be. The most significant thought for me is imagining myself ten years from now, frustrated and dissatisfied, constantly wondering "What if?" NYU has the power to fulfill me now, without any
Through my experiences and achievements at California Baptist University, I can gain an academic advantage over my peers attending other schools. The amount of programs and majors offered at CBU will help me develop as an educated and experienced woman with a strong educational background at CBU. With the help of CBU, I can grow into my full potential and maintain a great headstart in entering the real world with a strong mentality of maturity. I have always maintained upstanding grades and high GPA in high school, and my attendance at CBU will merely continue my pattern of success.
If I could go back in time and relive a particularly difficult moment in my life, I will work part-time in the weekend in high school. I want to save my money. I want to travel other state. I also want to see my childhood friends. I wish I spend more time to have fun with my friends when I was young. When I first came here I went to school and I didn't how many class I have to take the class and to pass the MACS. I spent one more year to get my diploma. I wish if I know all this I will take class that require. I will go to Middlesex Community College early to practice the MACS because they have MACS class. After I going Middlesex Community College I pass the MACS. It is very helpful to go there. I learned a lot of MACS how to answer the open
Looking back at my life to where I am now. I can honestly admit if I did not come to Community College my life would have been different. Here at community college I have made the most out of my experience I not only saved a significant amount of money but, furthermore I have grown not only with myself but with my grades as well. I struggled with a numerous of things in high school. However here at college I actually took the time to listen and observe. I have made friends and individuals that I can honestly call my family. I have taken the initiative to progress in my chosen fields.
During admission into Bronx Community College, I faced one of the most stressful predicaments academically. After applying, and having my transcripts mailed, I waited about two weeks before calling to ensure the transcripts were received. An admission counselor confirmed all transcripts were received and in the process of being reviewed. Five weeks later, during the first week of registration, I was informed one of the transcripts had been misplaced. Avoiding any further delay, I hand delivered the missing transcript. A few weeks later, I received a registration appointment. I was put on a list, received a number, and waited 9am to 5pm on a line for two days until my name was called. Unfortunately, while sitting with an advisor I found out
Last week at East, we had students going to the community college two days in a row and a school sponsored blood drive. The county office and community college scheduled the college days for our CTE students and seniors. It was hectic to say the least and the teachers had to be flexible. Some of the drove buses, others covered classes to give our students the opportunity to visit with college representatives and local business owners. By the end of the week, I could sense there was an undercurrent of stress. The feel or pulse of the school was off and by Friday, we had several teachers absent. To show appreciation, and to help combat high staff absents on Fridays I asked for money to buy the staff ice cream and to begin Fun Friday.
I was born and raised in a small town in California called Paradise. I was homeschooled from kindergarten to fifth grade. In middle school, I attended a small charter school. My whole family is very close and most of them all live in the same town. Growing up I lived right across the street from my three cousins and my aunt and uncle, we are all very close. My cousins became my first friends it was a long time before I had friends that were not related to me. I just recently moved here to Hawaii to study nursing at Chaminade University. This has been my first experience living on my own. I have had some great experiences while attending Chaminade University. I have meet many different people from diverse cultures. Through this paper, I will
After graduating high school I began taking classes at Austin Community College. Focusing more on my business and marketing classes, working as a manager at Ashley Furniture Homestore this allowed me to use what I was learning in the classroom and incorporate these skills into the work environment. Over my time at Austin Community College, the classes were becoming harder to fill many of my classes were dropped or the Dean of marketing substituting many of my courses for other courses. I became Frustrated with this process and decided to finish my certification in marketing and return to college at a later time. Following graduating Austin Community College I became sick and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. This diagnosis had an enormous
The sound of thunder went through and my house in the middle of the night. Filled with anticipation, I was just waiting for the long rainy days to be over so I could begin to enjoy my summer. The forecast said tomorrow would have low percentages of precipitations. Plenty of events had been planned for that following week with my friend and I. We just wanted the rain to stop. It was the beginning of the summer of 2016 and I had just finished my senior year of high school heading to my Super Senior year as an Early College Student. The excitement of independence and self-exploration for the following years to come rushing through my body as I thought about the future events. I was still going to attend Surry Community College to earn enough
I can still feel the sting, despite this event occurring nearly three years ago, upon being told by a fellow classmate on the first day of class that he would be more successful than me because I was “just some public school kid”. At my undergraduate school, the majority of students were native Louisvillians and alumna of the local private Catholic schools. They appeared to be cultured, refined, some clearly wealthy, and I was…. Not. I was a cowboy boot wearing, “hey, how y’all doing” drawling, public school educated girl from a working class family.
Today, I was impressed with the show that Kentucky State University put on. If were in high school after seeing what I saw today and hearing what I heard today....well I would be sold on Kentucky State. I did not see any representation from Central State today. Why was that? It's a 30 minute drive. I love IMM but WE have to do
University of Wisconsin-Madison was, quite honestly, not even on my radar for post high school education until I toured the school. Growing up in a house where instead of “family game night” we had “family gopher night”, it never seemed like a viable option for me to attend. I was taught that the only colors that mattered were maroon and gold, and the only colors that didn’t were black and badger red. The tour in itself came as a surprise, my mom being the advocate for it and my dad strongly disagreeing. We made the 285 mile trek, and I was immediately in love with the campus. The tour sold the school to me even more and I knew that Madison was automatically one of my favorites. When my dad got wind of my new-found love, he was less than disappointed.
My experience has also guided me on mentoring students who face similar challenges based on their identity. While in my undergraduate education, I was a member and volunteer at Latina Guiding Latinas de UCLA. Our organization created field trips and programs for High School Students in underperforming schools. In one occasion I had the privilege to host three High School girls in my free time, they oversaw my daily exposure to college and work outside of class. Their amazement and interest to learn more about our campus and the admission requirements to go to a University was such a gratifying experience.
