Personal Narrative: My Experience At North Carolina

East Carolina University is and has always been a dream school for many students including myself. I have grown up hearing about the University and it is nothing short of spectacular. Many family members of mine have attended East Carolina, and I have always pictured myself at this school. It would be an honor to be a pirate. Throughout high school I have struggled in Science and Math. There are several things I hope to gain from my experience as a student at California Baptist University. Such things include, a community of God loving, supporting and encoring friends, a Christian based education and opportunities to grow into the person God created me to be.

My Northern State University (NSU) American Indian academic advisor, Lara Nelson has inspired me and encouraged me for the two years of my collegiate career to be extremely involved and active in leadership roles. She is the leader of the Native American Student Association at NSU as well, and has encouraged me to be an active participant in the association and consequently, I was elected as the treasurer of the association in September 2016 and I also serve as student advisor on the NSU American Indian Advisory Committee which serves under the direction of the university’s Provost. In recent days I had the opportunity to go back to North Carolina for a few short days. There, with a heavy heart from a loss in the family, I had nothing else to look towards. I’ve always heard of individuals finding peace, faith, blessings, and love of Christ from attending church. I’ve never been a person who put their faith into a higher power. As I was growing up my parents never wanted to force me into any religion without me knowing everything about it and choosing which route to take on my own. As the years treaded on, I never bothered myself to learn about the many different religions and what each stands for. So I used this opportunity as mine to attend church for the very first time. On August 10, 2016 I started my journey at Roanoke Valley Early College. My older brother and sister both attended RVEC and they would always try to tell me what to expect. The RVEC experience is an experience that had to experience myself. My first month at RVEC has really been a learning experience. I’ve had some good experience and only one bad experience, but I guess that’s just part being in early college.

I love how UNC Wilmington’s population of students was so diverse. I knew coming out of high school I wanted a fresh start and I wanted to make my own way into this world. I felt like UNC Wilmington was the best place for me because it was going to allow me to do just that. The diverse amount of students meant that I was going to meet so many new people that were different from the people I had known all my life. Compared to the other schools I visited, UNC Wilmington stood out to me more than the others. The whole staff was so much more welcoming and helped me really feel like I was already a part of the Seahawk family. I think the staff reflected the atmosphere of UNC Wilmington and really made me want to work hard to be accepted into the school. I am the type of person where the size of the school really matters to me. I did not want to go to a school that I knew was so large in size that what I did was not going to matter. I think the main reason why I fell in love with UNC Wilmington is the size of the school. I know that at UNC Wilmington I will be given the chance to get to know my professors and to be

The saying goes “if you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it is yours forever. If it doesn't, then it never was yours at all.” This past fall semester I had to set myself free from the one place I loved to be the most and that was Millersville University. Millersville has been a place that I can whole heartedly call home. From the view of Miller and S’ville at the pond to walking through the SMC to being welcomed by all who see you on campus. I even loved my classes for I had professors who put everything into their teaching and wanted the best for their students. I had to give it all away this past semester and it hurt me so bad.

The only state I have ever known as home is North Carolina. I was born and raised in Charlotte and the only time I have ever moved away was last year to start a new chapter of my life as a college student. Growing up in Charlotte has had such an impact on what I plan to do with my future. As a young child I always thought of Charlotte as the next best thing to New York City. I shortly realized after visiting that was not quite the case. New York City introduced me to a new world of opportunity.

       On Thursday, August 20th 2015 I was accepted into College of Southern Nevada. On Friday, August 21st, 2015 I arrived onto the CSN West Charleston Campus at around seven o'clock in the morning to be one of the first people to take the math, reading, and writing placement tests for the day. After I took the placement tests, I went to the Student Recruitment office and spoke to a woman named Kimiko Walton. I told Kimiko about what happened to me and she recruited me. Afterwards, I purchased my textbooks from the bookstore (a typical mistake made by college freshmens). As I existed the double doors of the CSN bookstore, I told myself: "Nobody can give me the life I deserve expect myself..." On

Wilmington started out as home, then became just a vacation. After years of moving and resisting the pull to move back, I finally made the best and brightest decision I think I have ever made. I am moving home, and in the process, I thought there would be no better place to further my education than The University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I have recently taken a year off in between high school and pursuing my college education, and frankly, I think it has been one of the most humbling experiences of my life. I have learned to appreciate everything that was taught by my parents and the schooling I have received. After graduating from TCU I hope to discover that I am equipped with a superb education and that I am more than qualified to compete for employment in the global market. The internships I serve, while attending TCU, would have made my resume stand out from the rest. I would hope to discover that because of my experiences at TCU, I am able to do great things throughout the world, connecting with the very accomplished alum from TCU. I never thought a white woman from North Carolina could make a change. Back then, everywhere I went I can feel the town's eyes follow. You don't grow up thinking that your beliefs could/would change. Hell, you grow up thinking much of nothing down here. In North Carolina, the only thing you have time for is making money. So you can buy more time.

Where do I even begin? Well, first off…. THANK YOU! You have no idea the impact you have made on not only my life, but so many others. Speaking on behalf of my peers, you truly are a one-of-a-kind and remarkable professor. In my time at Eastern Kentucky University as an undergrad in the History Department, I had my fair share of good, bad and okay professors. You are in none of those categories because you created one for yourself.

I lived very close toNSU while I was in high school, so I have been familiar with NSU for a while now. I was considering attending NSU for undergrad, but at the time it was not the best choice for me, financially. I also attended a NSU ASDA event last year through my universities Pre-Dental association and got to explore the campus much better, especially the dental aspect of it. My goal at Clark college as a running start student is to graduate my Senior year in high school with both my high school diploma and my AA at Clark in Spring 2018.
