One extra-curricular activity that helped me learn about myself, impacted my life, and helped me with my future was my experience at the ACMC Academy. The Ashtabula County Medical Center Academy was an educational internship at my local hospital that I competed for, and was selected to participate in over the summer of 2015. Out of over three hundred applicants throughout the local high schools, I was one of only ten students selected. In the Academy program, I had the opportunity to shadow two different departments within the hospital and witness real-life job situations that happen every day. Participation in the ACMC Academy launched me into the "real" world of responsibility and accountability and helped me realize that the actions of
Through this program I learned a lot of leadership and teamwork skills. EAMC highly encourages its staff to be leaders for team members to provide the best possible healthcare to its patients. During My first year of volunteering, I had great leaders and team members that helped me learn all of the aspects associated with being a TAV. When our leaders graduated, I in turn had to take on the role and help all the new members learn their jobs throughout the hospital. EAMC believes in high quality patient care and as volunteers it was our job to make sure that we also meet their patients needs in a responsible manner. I learned a lot of leadership skills throughout my years of volunteering and teaching new members our jobs roles as well as picking up teamwork skills needed in making healthcare at EAMC the best it can be. I believe I can bring my work ethic and dedication to Auburn’s campus and help lead engineers to be the leaders in our world while being one
Winner of the Alpha Omega Contest is the highest honor that can a student at Joliet West High School can receive. To win this award, to me, would be a realization of all the hard work I have put in over the last four years. The goal of my efforts was not to build a strong resume for college applications or even for the Alpha Omega contest, but to challenge myself to grow as an individual, and to serve my community. Joining clubs and sports because they interested me, rather than in an attempt to have something else to write on applications in the future, is a strategy that helped me to excel in these endeavors. My passion for community service was cultivated in Students of Service (SOS), when I joined as a sophomore. However because I of my dedication and leadership ability, I was awarded the position of Vice-President the following year, and those same traits have resulted in me being awarded my current position of President.
Participating in the CGAS Program is helping me develop into a better student and leader. Attending MMI is challenging me through classroom competition with other service academy students. It is humbling to know others are smarter than me and through this discovery; it has raised my academic standards even higher.
While I have been blessed with many opportunities that helped me grow by pushing me to new limits, my volunteer work at South McKeel Academy through National Honor Society is my most memorable. The way I was brought upon this experience was not with the average vote. One morning I showed up to the 7 A.M. meeting ready to hear about how all
The saying goes “if you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it is yours forever. If it doesn't, then it never was yours at all.” This past fall semester I had to set myself free from the one place I loved to be the most and that was Millersville University. Millersville has been a place that I can whole heartedly call home. From the view of Miller and S’ville at the pond to walking through the SMC to being welcomed by all who see you on campus. I even loved my classes for I had professors who put everything into their teaching and wanted the best for their students. I had to give it all away this past semester and it hurt me so bad.
I took advantage of the opportunity; while other students laughed and giggled I took notes, asked questions (a hard feat for an introvert), and took a more hands on approach to my bourgeoning success. I maintained my academic success throughout the summer courses, Saturday sessions, and after school tutoring provided by Upward Bound. Upward Bound has stressed the importance of becoming more productive citizens by inspiring us to help our community and prosper in our academic endeavors. Perhaps the most involving team project I have participated in this Trio Program was Live United Day of Action volunteer service. The official Live United Day of Action is on June 21 and it’s a day that encourages people to take the pledge and make a change in their community. While in Upward Bound I took fifteen Honors courses, received a CPR license, Microsoft Specialist Certification, CNA licenses, and took the initiative to volunteer at
Being at the Chief’s Academy has been a great experience for me. I have learned many things during my time here that I will take back to my unit and apply to my day-to- day work. In the following paragraphs I will talk about three things specifically. The first thing I will take back will be my dedication to working out and my overall fitness. I will take what I have learned about fitness and share it with my subordinates. Secondly, in relation to the generations class, I will think about how people are different and how they come from different places and how I need to adjust my self to those differences. Lastly, I will take what I have learned about coaching and use that to better understand my people by listening and asking thought provoking questions. Even though I have learned many things, these are the three that I believe I will
This week I found myself in the OR. Lakewood Ranch Medical Center specializes in orthopedics. Specifically hips and knee replacements. This day one hip and three knee revisions were on the list for the day that I was able to witness. The surgeries themselves were something to see but the meat of the day was the nurse I was assigned to. He demonstrated and educated me to the duties of the RN in the OR: Stocking the general supplies needed, assisting in bringing the specific tools and supplies needed for that surgery, documenting everything from orders to supplies to medications, prepping the patient physically- cleaning and draping the patient leaving the surgical site exposed, assisting in the cleanup and turnover of the surgical suite.
Finishing high school and going to college can be quite overwhelming, yet incredible at the same time. However, taking classes at LaGuardia Community College meant that I was no longer in high school, and I need it to do things on my own to strive for success. In my first year seminar class, I had to adapt to a new environment where the majority of the work was submitted online at a specific time, and I also had to get used to using the websites needed for the class. Furthermore, I witness how students are when finals are just around the corner, many students in my class were rushing to get things done before the deadline. Overall, becoming a college student meant growing up and being independent where I no longer needed to ask for others to help me succeed.
Getting into the specialty center would mean a lot to me. I love art and want to learn more about how I could improve to become better and better. I have always wanted to become a famous artist or just any regular art teacher when I grow older throughout the years. My favorite art media to use is just using pencil or making objects out of clay. I take art as a way of focusing on what you feel by not physically talking it out like an art therapist. It gives me confidence knowing that what I feel like doing is the best thing for me to do.
I have earned 5 hours for this activity by learning about my career goals and medical schools in general. I recently visited the University of Florida's campus and visited the UF Health Center. They have a very nice facility and they do a lot of research. It is now the goal to get into UF's medical school. We did talk to an admissions counselor, who suggested that as soon as I get into college, I should started doing internships and be a part of a research team. This will be an area of growth I will need to work on since I tend to be shy when it comes to going certain organizations I am new to.
A semester into school, I was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor society. I nervously attended my first meeting to see what it was about. I was immediately inspired. Talks of community service, volunteering, and research projects motivated me to get more out of
I expect that I will feel very comfortable at the University of Delaware since I have lived in Delaware for all of my life and several of my friends already attend the school. However, I am not too used to northern Delaware, so that will take some getting used to but that excites me. I am also used to both large and small classes since I went to a positively tiny middle school and a very large high school, so I do not expect to be shocked by the class sizes. Although, I do hope that I can remain as close to my professors I have been with my teachers for the past twelve years.
I began my first day of medical school on crutches. During a long bike ride the previous day, the skies opened and it began to rain, as it so often happens in New Orleans. Nearly home while taking a corner, I slipped off my bike and split my knee open. As a result, I ended up spending the rest of the afternoon in the emergency department getting twenty sutures and was diagnosed with a torn patellar tendon. The following day at the White Coat Ceremony, I clumsily crutched across the stage to begin my medical school career.
I went to CASL and I am in the WIA youth program. That’s a program could help me in my homework also for me to prepare my ACT test.I went there everyday after school.I also learned a lot of colleges information in there, they told me about ACT,college requirement, volunteer, etc.I had learned a lot those information through a long time in CASL.I knew that I had to do volunteer for the requirement for graduate high school and also for apply a good college.I started looking for volunteer, the WIA youth program found a lot of volunteer for me.My first service learning was the Chicago Marathon.I did volunteer a lot after school or on the weekends.I knew that volunteer was not the only thing I need to be able to apply a good college,So I was looking for school activities and clubs.I went to gear up for tutor those students who need help. This was a good way for me to be have leadership and also it’s a good experience.I joined the clubs and went to the meeting once a week,I met friends there and they taught me a lot.I love the time in gear up and in the
