Personal Narrative: My Experience In Houston University

There are several things I hope to gain from my experience as a student at California Baptist University. Such things include, a community of God loving, supporting and encoring friends, a Christian based education and opportunities to grow into the person God created me to be.

I am a high school senior at Fair Park, looking forward to my first year at Jackson State University in the upcoming fall. My cumulative GPA is currently at a 3.6 average and anticipating to increase next semester. I would be considered the best person to receive a scholarship simply because I go the extra mile to assure my success. Although college is an extensive goal, it could be quite expensive. There is no better way to pay for college than by being awarded money for outstanding academic excellence.

When I started Chaffey College I did not had a college major in mind. My educational plan was set up to take general education for the first two semesters. It took me a month to realize I wanted to be a Dental Assistant. There was a waiting list for the program, but, fortunately I could obtain all the documents need it to be qualified. Now, my education plan is set up to graduate from Chaffey College by 2018. I will end up with an Associate Degree as a Register Dental Assistant. My education plan was set up to graduate in less than 3 years with the best experience and knowledge I could get. Being in college had made me increase my education goal, not only will I get a career in the Dental field but I will continue to become a mathematics teacher

I started my college education at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, then to GCU. My passion to help others was evident in the classroom resulting in my professors recommending that I became a tutor at the college’s learning center. I worked there for three semesters tutoring math and science. In addition, I volunteered at Chandler Regional Medical Center where I accumulated over 300 service hours working in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). After earning my bachelor’s degree, I was offer a position to work in the CV-ICU at Banner-University Medical Center. I am also an RN supervisor at Southwest Behavioral

Since starting the school year in August, my main goal is to become a more educated and well-rounded individual. After almost completing two full semesters here at Sam Houston State University I feel like I have taken steps to fulfill my goal. I know if I keep giving hundred percent towards my education I can achieve any goal I set before myself.

When my physics professor told me that, I was rather upset than happy. I am here to learn, not to only know couple of equations for the test. College classes are designed to challenge students, not to give easy A’s. My time with Harford Community College was great but not challenging enough. I desire more hands-on experience and research projects, which my community college both lack of. This is when I realize that I need to transfer to somewhere that would give me a lot of opportunities to shine.

Ever since I was younger I was full of wonder, which could be argued that it translated to a love of math and science. As I began to mature this wonder would keep me intrigued in learning an created an excitement for school. I started my education in Houston and am excited to continue it at such a great school like Texas Tech and thanks to this scholarship that will be possible.

Before my admission to Houston Community College, I was lost on how to succeed in my courses. However, my admission to this institute exposed me to different courses which educated me on different lessons on how not only to survive in college, but also how to succeed in my classwork. There are two main lessons that I wish to pass on to other students on how they can flourish in their courses.

I was born Bosnia-Herzegovina and I can fluently speak the language. Coming from this helps me understand tradition that much more. With that being said and how Fish Camp is, being apart of the program and tradition would be great. One of the best decision I had made when I came to Texas A&M was joining a Freshman Leadership Organization, more specifically FORME, Freshman Organizing and Running Mixed Events. Through my entire camp, they kept telling and emphasizing the importance of getting involved and it finally made sense after a month of being in FORME. The strong friendships and the amount of fun I have had throughout my first semester and start of second semester is almost unbelievable. I feel like it is important for me to lead the next

I fully understand the reason for my suspension from North Central Texas College. At the time of classes, my grades were too low and did not show my strength as a student. I would like you/ the school to reconsider my enrollment for classes.

Everyone in my family has attended college and has done something with their lives and I plan on continuing the cycle. In the fall of 2017 I will be attending Sam Houston State University. My major will be kinesiology because sports has always been a part of my life and I couldn’t imagine myself going through life without doing something related to sports.

Working on campus in an influential department, such as the undergraduate admissions office at Sam Houston State University, can present a multitude of opportunities to engage personably with prospective students from all walks of life. Like any other ordinary day in the admissions office, I respond to phone, walk-in and email inquiries related to SHSU’s admissions procedures and policies for prospective students. Unbeknown to me, however, this “ordinary day” would be an office visit that I would never forget. I recall meeting a remarkable freshman who had an aspiration to become an attorney and was interested in majoring in political science, but had some reservations. The transition from high school to college is a dynamic time in one’s life that parallels the change from childhood to adulthood. Both of these changes are dramatic and, as a result, feelings are difficult to put down into words. A messy combination of emotions fills the heart, surfacing in strange ways. Confident high school seniors go right back to the bottom of the chain when entering college as freshmen. These students start all over, just like entering grade school or high school for the first time. The move up from high school to college signals the switch from dependence to self-sufficiency. From a personal point of view, going through the experience of graduating high school and transferring to a residential college campus at STLCOP, made me realize I was no longer a kid and capable of making my own decisions.

1. What experience do you like talking about the most? What has been the most interesting, intriguing, and exciting part of your life- why, and what did you learn from it?

The majority of my academic tenure at San Antonio College has been on some kind of nonacademic probation period. Much of this stems from when I had enrolled at the college I was not aware of the direction I was headed or if I even had made the right decision to enroll into college period. Much of the SOBI reports filed on me many of them I had felt they were injustices and even unfair nonetheless even some of the sanctions. This is just my opinion but I felt I could have appealed many of them and possibly some would have had them overturned by making the choice to follow the appeal process.
