The company I work for is First Texas Homes, which is a private owned new home builder exclusively in the North Texas and Houston area. I office out of a model home inside one of the communities that I work in. The model home office includes myself, a new assistant and our manager who is the community sales consultant, Mr. Evans. Mr. Evans is the community manager so his responsibilities include, selling lots to clients for our company to build them a home, start a home to sell while it’s in the construction process, manage the community, manager the buyers who are on a contract, develop strategy to get new buyers in the door and problem solving, among many other things. I am Mr. Evans community coordinator and designer and some of my responsibilities

I grew up in a city named Colorado City, TX – the city is located in Central West Texas. I had a really good friend, that I became best friends with, named Daniel. We went riding our bikes everywhere around this little town, scraping our knees on concrete and crashing our bikes on practically everything (since there was practically nothing to do in this town – this was before the 3M Palace Theatre was reopened).

My mind will often wander to all the places I've lived in and all those I would love to travel to, or visit again. I think of the streets of Santa Fe, how fresh it would be compared to the over 100 degree temperature of were I am now, the hot dry heat of El Paso, Texas, a place I often come back to, the soil were my roots are permanently ingrained. El Paso has grown significantly in the past 10 years alone and is now the sixth most populous city in Texas (World Population Reviw). The birds, squirrels, and fishes living in tranquility. The daylight there is an early riser, while the night feels like a mother rocking her baby; peaceful. Therefore, the nights are so still that only the beautiful harmony of the crickets could be heard. The green tree looks so alive, they were standing large and stiff. There was even the opportunity of exploring the mountain trails. It was amazing being able to experience something completely different, especially when it was just a few days from starting my junior year. The memories from that trip will be unforgettable.

At the age of ten years old, I had just moved to Arizona and didnt have any friends. I was scared in a new place and we had moved alot so didnt want to make friends if we were going to move again.

Leaving the state of Texas for somewhere new and fresh has always been a dream of mine. This city, this state, has become so stagnated for me. The people, the air, the opportunities, all seem dried out. I have to leave this state and I desperately want to gain a college level of education. This is a thirst for knowledge has little to do with a future job or my future economic situation. Obviously if I saw into the future and learned that I was rich, I would have no complaints, but if I saw that I was rich and uneducated it would be so revolting. Moving from the South to the Midwest was a huge change in my life. For my whole life I grew up to the southern hospitality and the tang of salt in the air since the beach was always less than 5 minutes away wherever I lived. Now I moved to a place where they flip you off to say hi, and the closest thing to an ocean is a sea of grass that seems to go on forever. Although I am now adapted to the change for the most part, it took me awhile to break in to the social norms of an average Midwest kids.

When comparing Texas to others states in regards to providing services for the poor, Texas is considered more restrictive (Brown). In Texas, the primary goal is to provide a temporary aid to a family in need. This way families can start earning an income and provide for themselves, ending their dependency on welfare. The breakdown of Texans that lack health insurance remains high, by age there are an 84.5% of adults and 15.5% of children( Champagne).

I was born in El Paso, Texas to Mexican immigrant parents who did their best to raise me and my three siblings. Growing up in El Paso I never even saw myself applying to college, but then my dad made a bold choice to start a career in homeland security and that was when we moved to the DFW area. Ever since we moved to DFW every grade in junior high, i was talked to about college: how to get there, how to pay for it, and how to make it a reality. The thought of going to college never even crossed my mind before coming here. Now as a Senior in high school I'am doing everything in my abilities to make my dreams come true, to go to college and graduate to make my parents proud and prove to them that all their sacrifices haven't gone by without

Coming from a different county was difficult for me because it was hard to fit in with others. And also because there was a language barrier between other people and that was detriment for me from communicating with other people. When my dad transferred here in Hawaii to work, he was by himself with his siblings. He started petitioning us so that he could bring us in the US. It took years for the process to be over because there were complications with visa, passport information and birth certificates.

The main theme of this week is about figuring out how people live in Texas and how different to live in various locations. Therefore, I have already done the survey of 3 different Texans who speak perfectly Standard English and found out there are some similarities and differences. First, the people who live in big cities such as Austin and Dallas don’t have so many names for the bugs in the grass. Second, the people live in suburb region rarely hear or use the phrase “fixing to or I’m fixing to go to town.” Third, all of the participants have no solid definition for the sour milk. Last but not least, people who live in big city rate the place they live as “excellent” comparing to other areas.

One day my friend and I was playing outside in my yard and then her mom called her in so I went with her.When we got in the house her mom said that they were moving to texas I was very mad because she was my best friend.But I knew I could not tell them that she could not move to texas.

I believe that the situations I’ve been put through hold full responsibility for shaping me into the young, responsible, independent woman I have become. Going through my father’s deportation and having to depend on myself since I was only eight years old has had the biggest impact in my life.

Moving into another state was harder than what I thought. When your family tells you it will be just for a few months, it can turn out to be even more than that. Not being able to talk to my friends and loved ones as often as before made me feel out of place. Being in a position where becoming stronger the only option. Having to leave the past and begin to look into the future. I had to search what was best for me regardless the limits or obstacles.
