It all began at a very puerile age, about the time I re-discovered my extra sharp pinking shears, better known at the time as “squiggly scissors” that I began to piece together my “inspo scrapbook” which had an obnoxious amount of glitter that would surge onto the carpet every time I opened it, as you can emagine, I was vacuuming daily. This book consisted of “the big picture”. I began to congregate magazine clippings, fabric samples, paint samples and those alike to start planning my dream rooms, sort of like in SIMS, but this wasn’t my only inspiration. My grandmother, CJ, was a International Interior Designer who inspired me most, to follow your dreams and stop at nothing to achieve them, and excel. I guess you could say I was bitten by
Journalist, and professor of higher education emeritus at the University of Maryland, College Park, Robert Birnbaum wrote the article “Ready, Fire, Aim, The College Campus Gun Fight” in which he writes about two sides which he defines as “MoreGuns” and “BanGuns” and if one sides argument holds more truth as to whether guns on campus is a positive or negative reality. The article comes from a magazine called Change Magazine. Change Magazine focuses on the modern issues that arise in higher learning. The purpose of the magazine is to inform the readers and stimulate thinking. He reaches audiences on both sides of the argument by adopting a mostly non-emotional, and logical tone that will connect with his readers using facts. Birnbaum builds trust with the reader by being respectful to both sides of the arguments and presenting facts for both sides, at first he appears to be in the middle of the issue, but then as the article continues he shows his favored stance on the legal side by referencing the constitution which increases the strength of his argument.
This is by far one of the most eye opening facts I’ve learned since being here and this help me understand in retrospect why mostly everybody always gave the same answers to what they though interior design was. Most of them based their ideas on popular television shows that –intentionally or not- portray interior design as merely decoration that happens in a very short period of time. In fact reading the article brought me back to the first day of this class when students were introducing themselves and explaining why they chose to be interior designers and some of them responded that they liked what they have seen in the shows to the point where one of them even mentioned that she wants to have her own show on HGTV.
Arthur Miller’s timeless play, The Crucible, is based off the Salem witch trials that took place in the 1600’s. In The Crucible many characters are introduced to the readers as well as their relationships and interactions with other characters. Miller allows you, as a reader, to feel the emotions each character is feeling, and mostly the chemistry between them.
Ever since I was little I have aspired to be something great in life, a chef, a pro. soccer player, and an artist. I still hold on to those dreams in hopes they will come true. All of these dreams shape who I am today. I play soccer for “Charlotte Soccer Academy” and previously for the “Waddell Soccer Team”. Both have kept me being a team player and a stronger leader. I go to visual arts camp over the summer and try to use creativity at any moment possible. I love making cupcakes and baking which also allow me to be creative. I have finally realized that all of these dreams originated from my family. I pursued soccer, like my parents did throughout their lives. I continue drawing, like my mother and father did until it became their life and jobs. I am still love making cakes and cupcakes every weekend, just like how i've seen my grandmother make them. Life has a very strange and mind-boggling way of turning out. I know that sounds cheesy, but it is really true.
Growing up, I was drawn to feminine things. My mother dressed me in skirts and sandals, and I enjoyed helping my father plant flowers in our garden. However, interior design caught my interest as little girl. I adored everything from
While these aforementioned interests represent my greatest contemporary influences, to truly understand exactly who I am today as an artist and designer I would not be amiss to speak for a moment on my childhood. Looking back, it is now quite obvious what my interests were, but in those critical years before college I definitely struggled to define those things. Further back, I recall that as a small child I adored coloring and creating
My interest in interior design commenced in middle school during a project on various careers. Since then, it has become an ever-developing passion. Interior design has manifested itself into my daily thoughts. I constantly look at my surroundings, wondering what I could do to change the room into a more practical space. This fuels my thirst for further knowledge. The only way to gain this knowledge is to get a degree and learn through practical application. My educational and professional career objectives are to obtain a bachelor of fine arts in interior design and to succeed as a commercial interior designer.
Ever Since I was a little girl, I dreamt of becoming a skilled artist and seeing the world to uncover the mysteries that ancient artists had to tell. Art has always been a huge part of my life ever since I first held a crayon in my hand. From redrawing characters from
“With a pencil and a piece of paper, I create WORLDS. What do you do for a living?” This is an anonymous quote that inspires me to make my artwork and write my stories to be the creator of my own worlds. Using the least of tools I can create entire worlds in minutes, with sketches, colors, text and visions that make your head spin. A whole new universe created by my own invention of my own imagination and design. My American Dream is to get a college degree majoring in graphic design and literature, to sell my artwork, publish my stories, and to have a nice house with a family of my own with a legacy that will last forever.
As a young child, I often transformed my grandma's dwelling into my own personal canvas. Fueled by morning cartoons, I would concoct detailed illustrations of the oddities in my imagination and intricate pictures of my family and surrounding. It was evident I had been blessed. I was never discouraged from my routine doodling either, just encouraged to channel that creativity on to anything but our walls. When I started public schooling some years later I was introduced to the scope of what art really was. Painting, drawing, photography-It was a world unknown to me then. The way we experimented with every medium early on was perfect for my inquisitive nature. For years I invested in what I now consider to be my craft, with the guidance of numerous
Creativity allows me to embrace my world through a unique lens. In my essays, I write with a developed and vivid voice, using vocabulary that captures my thoughts and illustrates my emotions. I prefer free writing over a prompt because my words flow with no boundaries; I am able to vent and, therefore, relax. Likewise, when faced with a difficult problem, I like to ponder solutions that people would not normally choose; I envision multiple ways in which a situation can be fixed, and my ideas are far from mainstream. In addition, creativity is depicted in my drawings, which are usually random designs. My inspiration comes from my imagination; I draw what I feel, simply because it makes me happy, and happiness is an important part of who I am. Similarly, my bedroom displays my distinct style with colorful tapestries, pictures, and decorative lights. It is just enough to show
First of all, over the past few years, I discovered that I love designing and creating my own projects and bringing them to life. For example, I enjoy fashion as a hobby, and I had designed several dresses in my freetime, getting inspiration from professionals in the field. The feeling I got after I held the finished version of the dress in my hands could only be described as magic. Nothing felt more beautiful to me than seeing something I imagined on paper being transformed little by little into
When I was about four years old my mom walked in on me cutting fur off my Build-a-Bear and gluing it on my Barbie doll to make a fur coat. From that point on, she knew that she had an insanely creative child on her hands. I have always been engrossed in anything that involves creativity. I have a love for all creative outlets. I danced professionally for thirteen years, attended New Orleans
When I was four, my family moved to a single family home in Rockville, MD, 45 minutes driving distance from the prestigious White House. It is the home that my little brother was brought into when he was born. It is a 5 floor, red - fired colored bricked with a grand backyard. My parents, brother, and I share this beautiful house. Our home is very close to my old elementary and middle school, ten to fifteen minutes walking distance. I am lucky enough to have the backyard facing the famous Rock Creek Park, one step out of the fence and your foot is in Rock Creek Park. My favorite room in my house is my beautiful room. I call it the “Diva Den.” My room is cozy for me. It is the place where I relax when I have stress, need a break or just want
