his family members and most of my moms. JJ was there and my girlfriend was there to for me to support me. Everybody loved my dad he was a special person to me and to everybody he touched. After the funeral i felt drained and in my mind i knew i woild have to step up and be a man to my family and to become a man. My mom was still a peidiatrician at peidmont and she still gets a lot of money for her job and we still can do all the stuff that we used to but the time part is going to be a problem so i am going to have to ride home with JJ after practice. The high school still needs to find a new head coach for the team ASAP and we need a new head coach for our AAU team. I go to basketball training that northgate has called summer league and meet …show more content…
We had basketball tryouts on october 31st and i was doggin them folks on the court they couldn’t handle me and i was just a little 9th grader and they were all 11th and 12th graders they must have felt bad but i know they didn’t because i used to play against them all the time in practice so they already knew what it was. I was 6’3 and JJ was 6’4 by the time we were 9th graders and we made varsity when we picked our jerseys i picked my dads old number because i always wanted to be different from him but htis year i had to honor him by wearing his number the number is 1. We had our first practice and i kinda started to tear up a little bit because i know my dad would be proud of the man i became and the ball player i became he always said i will be better than he ever was just because of the passion i had for the game and the little smile i had every time a ball was in my hands. Practices kept going on and on and me and JJ earned the starting spots on the team we were getting very popular amongst the student body. The first game came up and as always me and JJ weren’t scared we were ecstatic to play against better competition and show the world what we can really
I was only a sophomore at the time, so I was still new to high school football and I wasn’t the greatest athlete either. I am on my second year of highschool football, and now is when football got very intense for me because the coaches were getting us ready for Varsity football. Early in the season our starting center on the team got injured with a very severe concussion that kept him out the whole season. I was playing Junior Varsity as a left tackle so I never thought I would have to play center. However a few weeks and games went by and one day our backup center got hurt in practice. The next day my coach called me into his office and said, “you are the backup center now so i’m going to need you to be ready for the game this week if we need you.” My heart sunk into my chest because I was so nervous and scared at the thought of playing
It was just another school night in the seventh grade. Our recreational tackle football team had a practice at 730pm until 9. It was a very swampy night and from that I felt myself very sluggish. At the time, I was a backup running back. I was always left on the sidelines facing the chills of the cold wind during games. I typically didn’t get to see much playing time on the field, but that night I got my opportunity. I was receiving kicks during a punting audition and all I was doing was catching the ball and throwing it back, nothing unique. One throw after another, my coach began to praise my arm strength. Seeing me pass the ball was a true eye-opener. That night, I went from a backup running back, to the starting quarterback of my rec
I was confident. I was a better basketball player and everyone knew it. Each day after tryouts I told my dad "I've got it this time." Needless to say, once again my name wasn't on the list. I was so dejected that I couldn't even look my dad in the eye when he picked me up. That night, I went straight to bed and skipped dinner. I later found out both my mom and dad silently cried because they knew how hurt I was. My friends kept telling me I should have made the team, but that didn't change the fact that they were playing and I just had to sit in the stands and watch night after night. I went to every single game that season, and supported my friends; all the while feeling empty because I couldn't be out there with
I was 12 year old when I started playing basketball. My dream was to be similar to Michael Jordan. However, my GBL team has lost every game since I’ve started playing basketball. I was also playing with my older brother Jeremiah for the first time, but we were always fighting about whose better. I knew this season would bring us together. With a lot of hard work we finally won. It took me and my brother to work together to win.
In my freshman year of high school I made the freshman baseball team, a couple weeks into the season I received news that I was being promoted to the JV team. I was so excited I was gonna be able to play at the next level. That night I played in my last game on the freshman team and I broke my thumb after a bad hop. I was devastated when the doctor gave me the news that I’d be out for the season and in a cast for the next month. Soon after my coaches heard the news, I was sent back to the freshman team. After playing out all the hypothetical ways approaching the next few months could have gone for me I decided right then I was going to go to every practice and game to help my team even though I physically wasn't able to. At the team banquet
How did Roger Banister break the 4 min mile? How did Dennis Kimetto run a marathon in 2:02:57?
Starting high school was nerve-wracking for me just like everyone else. I had made the Varsity competition cheerleading team as the first Freshman to do so. I was also one of the first three Freshman to audition and make it into the Wind Ensemble, the top band. Being a Virtual Performing Arts School, where arts are weighed as college courses, it was very competitive to get in. I was surrounded by upperclassmen on both ends of the spectrum and was determined to prove myself.
It was the very first game of the season, Montessori, but I had no clue how good they were or what they looked like, I was so nervous I could barely eat that day. I was hoping we weren’t going to be thrown to the wolves. Then, that fateful moment came, we were all dressed out in our jerseys waiting for the girls game to end. Then, I heard that last game buzzer go off, I can still remember the sound of everyone smacking the bar above the door as we ran out onto the gym floor. As we were all getting into positions I look back and see the tallest guy is 5’6. I was so relieved that everyone wasn’t going to get murdered that day. That game I didn’t start but about two minutes in coach took all the starters out and put in all the second string. I can still remember when Nate Paul ran to the other side of the court and almost scored for the other team. That game was probably the one game I will always remember because I scored so many points in the paint, got around ten rebounds, and blocked their whole team. I was so hyped up that my heart was going a million miles an hour. I can still remember fighting over this kid for jump ball that when I ripped it I slung him across the court and almost got a technical foul. That game was the highlight of my season because I got in for almost the whole game. I really thought I was the man. I was taking their cookies left and right
As a freshman walk-on to the Football team, I had no idea what an impact it would have on my future. The skills I learned through football at NAU, such as perseverance, teamwork, the pursuit of excellence and the wisdom to overcome both physical and mental challenges, led me to find what I’m passionate about. Football at the college level is somewhat robotic, everyone hits the same, breaks the same, and even runs the same. There is zero personality in it. What I found through NAU though, is that I’m not identified as just an athlete.
Making the decision to become a collegiate athlete was not one of ease. Having participated in sports my whole life, I was used to the commitment it took to play and could see myself continuing my career after high school. However, collegiate athletics is in no way similar to high school or travel club sports. No matter what division played, the sport is very intense and requires individuals to commit on an entirely new level.
Stop drop and rumble! I remember the first time making the Atkinson county cheer team. At first I did not think by any chance i was going to make it.Going by that you should imply that when I saw my name on the paper ,stating who made it, i was so happy nothing could bring me down.I felt as if I just made a million dollars, that is exactly how happy I was.
Right after the season ended my dad got a call from the head coach (Coach Bryant) and was told that I didn’t even have to go to the tryout. I was one of the only kids the didn’t have to go to the tryout I was already on the team. About a week later we had our first practice, it was kind of cool to see all of the kids that got picked to be on this team. It surprised me to see my coach from last year (Coach Colton) because I thought he was coaching the team I was on last year. The other coach (Coach Tony) I knew because our old team practiced with his old team. I also knew most of the kids on the
The environment I grew up in was really involved around spending time with my family and friends and being apart of sports teams and organizations. I love nothing more than being able to hang out with my friends and just having a great time laughing together and being ourselves. I have friends that I have been friends with ever since the first grade that I can truly call my brothers and that will be at my wedding when I get married, be there when I have my first child, and be there when my parents pass. A lot of these unbreakable bonds have come through and started with sports. My family and me are constantly watching sports and talking about new things going on in the sports world. My little brother, Cameron, and I have now won state
One thing that I have accomplished that I am proud of is making the state basketball team. Five months ago I went to the state tournament but sadly we got 11th place out of 24 teams. A few short weeks later I went to the movies with McKenna. While I was there my dad got a phone call from my mom saying that I made the state team so my dad crept into my movie and said “macy you made the state team!” As he was trying to hold his excitement back so that he would not interrupt the
When I was in middle school I tried out for a basketball team at school there I had a challenge of going against the best players in the league. The people that are the best have been playing for many year's before me and they started young on the other side I started when I was in 6th grade. I didn't have that many years of experience but I still persevered through and went on to take on the challenge and then I was on the court playing 5 v 5 and made a couple of shots after practice coach calls me over and tells me that you made first cut I was so proud of making the first cut. After the first tryout the second was coming up in a week so that means I need to practice shooting, handling and defense so I have a better
