Think of your favorite thing in the world to do. Something that defines you. Something that you can only experience from your eyes. For me it is soccer, and through that came a rite of passage that will be with me forever. I was born and raised in Haymarket, Virginia. Haymarket is a small town about 40 miles west of Washington, DC. If you were to drive 30 minutes one way you would be in the country. If you drive 30 minutes the other way you would be in the city. Haymarket is located in the middle between the county and city. My point here is that I have always been in the middle. I am the middle child, average height, and I never thought of myself as anything special. I would just stroll through life having a good time never worried or …show more content…
My team the Battlefield Bobcats were never the underdogs going into a championship game. The clock was ticking down, there were only 12 minutes left in the game. My legs were tired, body aching, I was drenched in sweat and my team 's energy was nowhere to be found. Every pass my team would make would not be completed. It was either a sloppy pass due to exhausted legs or intercepted by the other team. My head was down with frustration and my spirit was broken. I wanted to just fall to the ground and crawl into the shade. I felt defeated. I looked up at the scoreboard and the time read 8 minutes left. As I looked at the scoreboard I felt a jolt of energy enter my body. I had felt as if a fire was lit under me. My eyes opened as if I had just seen a ghost. I remember thinking to myself, “how can we lose this game?” I made a promise to myself that I would win 4 state titles while being at Battlefield High School. This was my sophomore year of high school and I had already won one state title, how could I give up now and let my dreams be crushed, I worked too hard for that to happen. In that moment I knew there was only one result I was going to walk off the field with, and that was with a win and another State Championship. I took a deep breath and thought to myself, “My team needs energy. They need a leader.” At this point in the game the other team was holding possession of the ball waiting for the time to run out and for the game to end.
We march onto the field and took our positons to stop the other team. Boom the kick was off I ran as fast as I can and hit the guy with the ball. Okay I said to myself I got the first tackle now the real game has started no time to think about anything else but the game. Surprising we were doing a good job stopping them from moving the ball. The next thing I remember we had the ball. On offense I was lined up against one of the giants from their team. Wow I was scared but once we hit, I notice he was not all that good. Now drive my own self-motivation I began to play like the me I know. As everything was going good I can feel the whole mood of the game change. We were holding our ground with a team that should be beating us. Every moment of the game felt like a dream but the pain was
My freshman year we entered playoffs with a hopeful optimism that in our first year in 3A, the largest division, we could make a statement that we were here to stay. In the end, the game didn’t go our way. There were some questionable calls made but in the end, it is what it is: we weren’t good enough to win. A tough reality but often times you learn more from a loss than from a win. Sophomore
I watched the ball roll into the back of the net; it was 12-12 in overtime against Cardinal Gibbons. This was my last game with my brothers, best friends, and a family I will cherish for the rest of my life. I not only let my teammates down, I let my family down. We lost against Cardinal Gibbons in the 2015 3A State Championship game 13-12 in overtime. When they scored their final goal I immediately dropped to my knees and began to sob, I was not upset that I lost, I was upset that I let my family down and that was the last time I would ever step on the field with
It's a Friday afternoon, I plan to go to Great Wolf Lodge in an hour with my church. I see one of my friends so he says to his mom “ Hey, that's my friend” I said “Crap” So I go inside to sign in to go and see my friends just sitting in a corner on a big sofa. We are listening to music and just talking then a green bus comes.
My dad, for as long as I can remember, has always been a big part of my life. All throughout middle and high school we would have heart to heart conversations just father and son. I can remember the warmth of the fire, the taste of tea on the tip of my tongue, a cool midnight breeze blowing in carrying the scent of grass and fresh rain, my dad sitting across the room telling me about the different projects he was working on, and regaling me with advice to help in everyday life. One night, he told me something that would change my life forever: that all the different clubs, hobbies, and sports that I do are connected to each other in some way, and how each skill I gain from each of these different activities can be filed away to use in a later
Hello! I hope everyone is having a great day/afternoon/night. I’m Mayra Barragan, I’m Mexican, so yay tacos and burritos! No, I’m just playing. I do love tacos, but believe it or not, that’s not all we eat or that we tremendously adore. I am the type of person who would rather keep to themselves than socialize and attempt to make new friends because I’m not so good at it. Singing, drawing, decorating, crafting, listening to music, reading and writing are not only my hobbies but some are also my passions. English is my absolute favorite subject because the ways we can utilize it are endless and can also be very creative.
On a not so typical friday night, after a long day of school, my team and I knew that the day was not over. We had a fight in front of us and we knew what needed to be done. Coughlin high school was going into the ballgame as underdogs. Having everyone look at us as “the team that never wins playoffs” really makes you push harder for that title. It was very typical for my team to get the “short end of the stick” when it came to playoff rankings. The only thought that crossed my mind was to win so my team can move on to distracts. In the locker room before the game, everyone was getting ready and our coach told us something that i would never forget. He said “play this game for the next 48 minutes as if it was the last 48 minutes of your life.” After hearing this, we knew that we had work to do and that we had to accomplish the goals that we came in wanting so badly.
I glanced up at the scoreboard. 20 seconds left on the clock, down two points. My teammate passed me the ball at the corner of the three point line. I looked around and before I could blink I was kissing my season goodbye. All the blood, tears, and sweat that was shed on the court suddenly seemed as a waste to me.
I am not one to pick up hitchhikers, it’s just not safe, everyone knows that but for some
My guilt was trapped behind my heart, knocking and pinching at the organ to open up and let it free. But I found a secret route. It could leave without anyone knowing it was even there.
Everything that has a beginning has an ending, never have I thought to myself that my ending would be losing the family I grew up with for over 20 years. The car accident which took all their lives will forever be encrypted in my memory until the day I take my last breath on this world. I warned my father it would be dangerous to take the entire family upstate in a van but he just yelled at me. That's something I never appreciated about my father, having a different opinion than him would just lead to him yelling at me and starting a massive argument. I called him a bastard and left him with the rest of the family. That was the last thing I said to my father, now I lie here, organizing the entirety of their funeral at my expense and leaving
The day of my championship game I woke up with my girlfriend Michaela. Smelling cooked breakfast, laughter down stairs with multiple voices, and we headed down stairs. Seen my friends that also played for the team that wanted to ride in together to the field. Jaylon, Josh, And Jaylon father. Also my grandparents was coming through to my house so I knew how big this game was “I’m so excited at this point”. Everyone got to the field and started working out at our home field; therefore, we were waiting on the other team going through some of our secret plays. PG Spirits get to the field the game started. The captains ran up to the middle of the field and we are the Temple Hills Bison’s that kicked off the ball first. It was a tight game back in
Bicycle tires lifted dirt from the narrow path, filling the Scandinavian landscape with dust. As I swallowed the thick air, fragments of the earth entered my windpipe. I forced a dramatic cough, as though I was a movie extra overdoing my role as Choking Girl. It was the summer of 2007 and at the ripe age of ten years, my toothy grin and chicken legs were lugged across Denmark on a bicycle trip by my bickering immediate family, sheltered cousins, and nonconformist aunt. After yet another lengthy day of riding, a portrait of my rear was indented into the leather covering of my seat, and vice versa. After crossing paths with enough countryside sheep to make Polyphemus envious, the time had finally come to find our campsite. Instead, we found
I went camping this summer for my friend’s birthday, It was a lot of fun and I have so many great memories from that trip. Marshmallows roasting, going swimming, screaming was so much fun. We also played volleyball and our ball almost fell into their fire. They didn’t care though everyone here was happy, happy kids, happy dogs, even elder people had smiles on their faces. We took a walk down to the dock and at one point it came up and bounced. For that moment I thought we were about to go flying into the water. Everything stopped and I grabbed a hold of the dock. Then we roasted marshmallows and most of them ended up on Jaydin’s little cousins' faces. When it was time to go back into the camper we played the try not to sing challenge.
I overheard my owner that I am having visitors from Texas coming. I hope they have warm clothes on because it is sunny with a lot of snow here in Minnesota. I think they are coming here for my birthday, I turned 8 today. “BAM!” I think that was a car door. They are here!! “What's his name?” I heard someone ask. It was a little girl, she has blonde hair. “ His name is Teddy.” my owner said as she opened the door to my stable. My owner starts to saddle me up. I thought it was a birthday party not ride time. She takes me out to the indoor field. The little girl gets on me and my owner pulls me around the field. I think she is teaching the little kids how to rid a horse. The little girl was first she had to use a step stool to get on me because I am a big horse. I heard the little girl say “I am so glad it is winter break.” After the little girl got off she started to pet me. “I love his black spots with his white fur.” I start to walk around and a lot of wind comes in and it is really cold.
