I have learned so much in these past three weeks. There has been a bit of a learning curve adjusting to legal policies that effect the state of Florida that I haven’t had to deal with in the past, as well as learning about how the USF System operates. My supervisor has been great about helping me understand the institution and filling me in on things that don’t make sense after we meet with other people on campus. Orientation is a lot of work! My days have been filled with small but constantly busy tasks in preparation for our first FTIC orientation happening June 8-9th! I’m looking forward to that experience and processing any questions or concerns I have after having been through a session. Even though my main job is orientation, I have
Walking away from everything you once knew and starting over is never a picnic. Leaving Iraq, and moving to America has impacted my life more than anything. I was only 4 years old at that time, and the only English I spoke was “excuse me, water please.” My family and I did not know it then, but our lives were going to change; we would become “Americanized”. Learning English was one of the massive changes that occurred, the way I dressed (culture), and even the way I had power to go to school and educate myself.
I have enjoyed getting to know and working with all of you over the last few weeks. As always, I learn as much if not more from all of you than vice versa. Best of luck in all
In 2025, I will be twenty-nine years old and hopefully married. I will be married to my significant other of ten years Earnest Palmer III, who is a dentist. I would have been recently graduating with a bachelor’s in Culinary Arts and trying to plan to open my own restaurant, BubbaD’s Eateries. Knowing my big headed husband of mine, I probably had a baby then and trying to have another baby. Hopefully, by then Earnest will get rid of the idea naming our son, King. We will be living in the suburbs near New York City but working in the city. Being a woman with great memory, I probably wrote a memoir about my crazy life and trying to sell it to a publisher. If none of the publishers wants to publish my memoir, I will probably sell it the Lifetime
On February 27th, a plane heading to San Jose with five people on it suddenly crashed in southern California. The two houses it landed on immediately erupted into flames because of the jet fuel. Luckily, no one was in those houses, however three out of the five were killed on the plane, while the survivors just had injuries. The people on the plane had consisted of a husband, wife and three teenagers going home from a cheerleading competition at Disneyland Adventure Park. The competition is suspected to be the Jr. USA Nationals, but unfortunately will not be a celebration to them anymore. The names of the people have not been released at this moment. Many bystanders of the crash have taken to social media to share the horror of what has happened. Undoubtedly, the passengers will never be the same again.
The second day of my practice I felt that I had made some progress towards my goals of improving my time management and getting my documenting done earlier and providing relevant healing initiatives for my client.
“Oh I got my heart right here. Oh I got my scars right here…” With the slow beat of The Weeknd, I took a right onto the highway. Where was I going? I didn’t know. I was just going to drive my thoughts away. Peering down into my windows, the moon shone on my interior, lighting up everything. It was just me, the moon, and my freedom. I turned the radio louder to blast out my thoughts and just think about the song. I do this therapeutically. Driving makes me feel better, especially when I have no certain destination or deadline. My only goal is to chase the moon in an eternal game of tag, but for some reason I’m always “it”.
Hi iam Edgardo Flores i was born in casa grande, az not that far away from our state capital,Phoenix, Az.theres nothing better to do in a hot summer than going out with the friends to a lake and have a blast riding jet skis boats and my favorite, swimming! My activites of the day are shooting, riding horses, and my favorite one is quad riding.Thats right! ive been doing these fun exciting hobbies since i was 9 years old.pretty young huh?
I was incredibly excited. School was starting tomorrow. The first few days were just icebreakers, learning everyone’s names, blah blah blah. Then the real learning began. Of course, teachers started to write our lessons on the board. I started to notice a few changes in what I was seeing. The words they were writing were just...black lines! I didn’t pay much attention to it, I just asked my friends what the board said. As the year went on, it affected me more and more, especially in math. I saw a 2 as a 6, and and an A as an 8.
Based on having three courses, a practicum, and an intensive this summer, I was prone to experiencing burnout during the summer of 2017. If I suffer from burnout while participating at the Naaman Center, it can affect my educational involvement and influence me to not be aware of the information that is being shared amongst the clients in group/individual counseling. Nevertheless, since I would be showing signs of fatigue, I would be avoidant of approaching my supervisor about important information this is required for my counseling education and theoretical/therapeutic approach. At the start of the summer, I believed since I had the summers off, I could handle three courses, a practicum, and intensive. Certainly, there were weeks where I
Last summer I wanted to work and earn a little cash and distract myself and not be home all summer. I didn't know where to apply so I applied everywhere I was even open to working in the fields my parents told me that the fields were the last place they ever wanted me to work. My mom and step dad Raul always told me that field work wasn't easy and that it was not for me but I didn't listen.
“Casey, your group needs to do the stunt one more time!” coach said imprudently. It happened March 26, 2015; it was at the end of a two hour practice. During the summer months in South Georgia, it is utterly hot and humid, especially in our cheer gym (a warehouse with no air conditioner); it only has two heavy-duty fans and a roll-up door. With this in mind, my group became slightly irritated. Everyone was exhausted; nevertheless we still had to do the stunt anyway.
Growing up with a father in the military, you move around a lot more than you would like to. I was born just east of St. Louis in a city called Shiloh in Illinois. When I was two years old my dad got the assignment to move to Hawaii. We spent seven great years in Hawaii, we had one of the greatest churches I have ever been to name New Hope. New Hope was a lot like Olivet's atmosphere, the people were always friendly and there always something to keep someone busy. I used to dance at church, I did hip-hop and interpretive dance, but you could never tell that from the way I look now.
By my second year, I joined the OLÉ! Team to help coordinate Orientation Weekend. While the Team was preparing materials, we began talking about our first year experiences. I opened up about my personal difficulties, and I learned that many others also struggled to adjust. I was inspired to become a Scholastic Assistant for next year’s Orientation Weekend so that I could serve as a peer mentor to guide first year students through their transition. Helping foster a positive educational and developmental experience, I spent countless weekends throughout my third year supporting others and being a friend to those like the lonely, homesick freshman I once was. I discovered a passion for working with others towards a common goal and connecting with incoming
My first semester here at Kent State is coming to a close. It has been such a journey from the moment I stepped on campus all the way to now. Time has gone by so quickly. From new student orientation, practicals, midterms, thanksgiving break, and now finals. Now pausing for a moment, to appreciate everything that has happened this semester. It is honestly hard to put into words. The combination of class I took, the experiences I went through, the people I got to meet, and this whole new environment. College is not what I expected. It is so hard to explain it until you have experienced. This semester has opened me up to a whole new world of perspectives. I have gone out of my comfort zone completely. Pushing myself into awkward situations and
