I would like to share a short anecdote about an amusing incident that happened to me. Two years ago, I was selected to officiate at my first Georgia State Cup, a large soccer tournament held over Memorial Day weekend with teams competing from all across the state. The four-day tournament was held at a university in Columbus, GA. For the referee crews, it means long days officiating many games with few breaks. Typically, evenings are relaxing, however, as all the referees stay in the same dorm together, sharing humorous stories and building camaraderie. On the second day, four of us made plans to go to the laundry room together and wash our uniforms immediately after we returned from dinner. As soon as I got back to my dorm room, I received
Another key factor is the development of downtown Charlotte including the best minor-league ballpark since opening last season; paired with Bank of America Stadium downtown has become a great atmosphere for fans of all ages to enjoy the sports the Queen city has to offer! Another great thing about sports the fans that have been a part of Panther nation from the beginning are now carrying on the tradition their parents started when they were younger and now are PSL owners cheering on the Panthers season after season passing on the joy to their kids. It's amazing the trickle-down effect sports can have on fans and what that has done for the Queen city. I'm an example of that as my first Panther game was when I was six years old and I am now 19
Number 4 is breaking a tackle heading for the end zone... The crowd is going crazy… 4th down, 5 seconds left after a called timeout. Johnny Mox rolls out of the pocket, can’t find an open Receiver. He takes off sprinting for the outside… blockers taking out enemies left and right like it’s WWll. He makes a cut to the inside, number 11 shaking in his boots, Johnny Mox does the jab step spin move right around him! Amazing! Number 11, hanging on to Mox’s towel as he watches it rip away. 30… 20… 10… Touchdown! The Johnny Mox takes the Tigers to the Louisiana State Championship! No one believes what just happened. Johnny Mox, first time starting, breaks a finger biting tackle that will be within this team forever. Number 11 made full
Before coming to UGA, I was a huge LSU fan. My mother went to LSU, so I was exposed to LSU football at an early age. I loved watching LSU football on Saturdays, and still do. I would spend most of my Saturdays during the fall on the couch with my dad and brother watching LSU play. I remember how nervous I was for the 2008 BCS National Championship between LSU and Ohio State. That night was one of my most memorable nights. With my love of LSU football, I felt as if I could never learn to like another team.
I have never won a Kansas State Kids Wrestling state Championship out of my nine years of wrestling. But, this year I was determined that it would change.
The South Dakota High School Football Championship was an experience that I am grateful for having. During the process of getting ready for the event, I was more worried about my grade of the course compared to the success of the weekend. As each week passed on, I realized that this weekend is bigger than just a grade for a course, but it’s a dream that many children have had since they first touched a football. After I realized how selfish I was, I volunteered to lead the game script group that was part of the social media/marketing group. The reason behind that was because I believe I want to go into the marketing aspect of sports, and I thought it was easy. Now that the event is done, I still want to be in sport marketing, but I learned
It has been 2 1/2 years since I left Kent State Geauga. Looking back I am so glad I made that decision because it lead me here. After I graduated High School I did what I was expected to do by going to college. I had no idea what I wanted to major in, but I new I wanted to do something I love and am passionate about. The problem was, how do I know if I love something if I’ve never done it before? After a semester of college I decided I would drop out and figure out what I wanted to do before I went back to school.
We were not expected to be in this position after starting the season with two wins and six losses. With the bases loaded, I stepped into the batter’s box for my second at bat in the 2017 PA District 2 AAAA High School Championship game. Our opponent was stacked with three prospective Division 1 pitchers. I was nervous to say the least, but then my “moment” arrived. I saw my pitch, and launched a bases clearing triple that added to a lead that would eventually produce a victory for my team. We moved on through the playoffs, and eventually landed at Medlar field in State College, where we delivered our first baseball State Championship in school history.
It was the Pennsylvania State Championship. Almost everyone in the state was at the game it seemed like. The Panthers were playing the Lions. The ball game was tied. The Panthers took a timeout with 10 seconds to set up a play. The Lions were also thinking of what to do on defense.
It was great talking with you. I always enjoy meeting someone from SC. Plus you are a Gamecock fan like myself. I went to the A&M game last year when they came to town. Hopefully this season is better than the last one.
When we arrived at the hotel we all got our rooms and then our coach held a meeting to talk with us. This wasn’t my first time at hotel for a wrestling tournament, so I was comfortable with it. When we had our meeting, our head coach talked about the tournament tomorrow and about getting us food for the night. At the end of the meeting he said when he gets back with the food he also had a surprise for us. Everyone was intrigued by this. Our coach always does nice things for us. We were eager to see what it was this time. When he got back he brought four huge boxes with him. Inside the boxes were brand new warm up uniforms. Everyone’s jaw dropped when they handed them out. These were the coolest, nicest, cleanest looking warms I have ever seen in my entire life! Now I had some
When I qualified for the AAU State wrestling tournament I never thought I would have done so well. Being in 8th grade and it being my last year to go to AAU State I put in the hard work and qualified for AAU State and I was overjoyed with happiness. For the next 2 weeks, I practice my heart out trying to get better for AAU. The day that wrestling starts the older group doesn’t wrestle till 4, so we went to the mall till 12 then Wells Fargo. The team started to warm up around 3:30 and I was one the first matches up. I won my first match with a pin and my second with the 11-3 win. My third match was against the kid that won the tournament and I lost to him 2-5.
Well the week of our trip to Memphis Tennessee had finally arrived ! My colleagues Beverly,
Five years ago I never would have seen myself as a college student at Georgia Southern, I knew I would be in college, but why here? I was so young with my entire highschool life in front of me. I knew I wanted to be a nurse, but I had no idea how to get there. College was obviously in my future, but I never would have guessed I would be at Georgia Southern (a party school). I got here three weeks ago and was honestly still not sure I should be at this school. I have always been known as a “good girl”, so what was I doing here? God always has a reason for the things he does though, so I came here ready to see what hHe was going to do with my life. I found a church and have been actively involved since the day I got here. Now I have a bunch
