I step up to the tee box with my driver. Tee and lucky golf ball in hand, I gaze out onto the fairway and take a deep breath. I set up my ball on the tee not too high but just right and look at my target one more time. I take my club back and swing as hard as I can, “BAM!” I see the ball hurtle towards the hole at a lightning speed and 265 yards down the middle of the fairway it comes to a halt. This was one of my best shots, but I knew there were more things to come, good and awful. I was excited to develop more and more skills and to be able to apply for a scholarship. My very first golf tournament was coming up and hopefully more to come.
I had been practicing everyday and counting down yu days until my first tournament where I would be able to practice my skills and know what it will be like in high school and college golf tournaments. Everyday I would wake up, brush my teeth, put my hair in a ponytail, and get my golf clothes on. I would either practice my swing outside or at the golf course which was about 15 ,imputed away but usually I decided to go to the golf course. My dad would take me and play 9 holes.
About a week before my tournament I practiced every single day and

Every time I tried to hit the ball I ended up topping the ball and not hitting the ground or hitting the ground too much. I was starting to become less confident in myself and quite angry that I could not hit the golf ball. After every shot I took a practice swing and a deep breath hoping that I could finally hit the ball nice and straight, but that wasn't working whatsoever. I was losing my mental focus and could not get it back so I was anxious to go spend time working with my coach on my mental
With my experience with the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour I started to develop some strengths that previously had been more of a burden than beneficial to my professional development. Working in the field, and work in the classroom while beneficial prepares you in a completely different sense. Having the ability to work hands on in the daily operations of the tour allowed me to use my creative abilities to determine solutions rather than following predetermined guidelines. Being involved with this internship allowed me to further expand and gain new strengths such as;
The one thing I buy regardless of cost is to visit the Masters golf tournament at Augusta, Georgia. The first reason is I enjoy the history. I hear about legends like Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player. I listen to Jack Nicolas’s best round. The second reason is the beautiful scenery. I like seeing the beautiful trees and flowers overlooking the golf course. I like seeing the gorgeous greens. Next, I would want to see the opening tee shot. It’s a tradition for many years. The starters are very famous and they won the Masters many times. Another reason is to see Tiger Woods. I enjoy seeing him because he’s very famous. He has won this tournament five times. His first Masters win was in 1997. Additionally, the tournament is in April. April is when
The first day of this event was great. I shot one over par, seventy three, and was in the top twenty five of the tournament. I was confident in my swing and my game throughout the slightly breezy day. Over the course of the round, I had at least 5 different college coaches watching me play. Being watched by college coaches on any golf course is nerve-wracking, but being watched on one of the best courses in the country made me extremely nervous. I told myself throughout the day to just take a deep breath and focus on my game because that is the only thing that I am able to control.
Once, a very long time ago, Vincent Van Gogh was said to have drunk yellow paint, hoping to gain happiness. Three years ago, I joined my school’s golf team for the same reason. I found myself isolated at school, realizing that I was pushing school work over my social life during my sophomore year. It was when I desperately struggled to surround myself with positivity that I found myself at the Santa Teresa Golf Course. The first few practices at a sport I had never touched was more upsetting than enjoyable. Unexpectedly, golf requires a mentality where the confidence to overcome obstacles is essential to successive progression in the sport. Being compared to my older sister at home, and then struggling to fit in at school, made self-doubt a
“Tweet Tweet,” screamed the birds as the sun smacked Tyler and me in the face with its Florida heat hotter than jalapenos.
Next we were off to the University Golf Club! It was kind of pricey to go, but we still had tons of fun trying to golf! Georgia and I have never golfed before, but Anna was a pro at it so she did WAY better than us. Georgia hit her golf ball into the lake a few times, but other than that we had a great time! After a fun day of golfing, crazy sushi places, and the Regional Park, we decided to go someplace simple and quick for dinner. For dinner we ate at Five Guys, and we all got the little bacon cheeseburger, which has always been mine and Sydney's favorite. After dinner we decided to end our day there and get ready for our next big day!
There are many teams that I’ve loved being a part of over the last three years of high school. The first is the golf team. I was blessed to be on the Junior Varsity team during my freshman and sophomore years, and this year I’m now on Varsity. The first two years were incredible. I was with Coach Al VanderHart, and we had such incredible seasons, especially sophomore year. I was blessed to be a team captain with Natalie Mason, and I grew so close to the girls on my team. We had so many traditions, including dressing up on match days, bringing food to the Town Square at Break, devotions before every practice and match, and much more. Another reason my team and I became so close was through the tragic loss of Coach Al’s son. We all surprised Coach by going to the funeral as a team. It was one of the moments in my life where I could feel God the most. Our team gave a big group hug, and we all started crying together, including the coach. It felt so good to lean on each other as a team for support, and it showed me just how powerful God is through the people
The sport of golf is a game that many people play competitively and recreationally. Whether one is a tour player or a weekend warrior, everyone asks themselves after an ugly golf shot, “What was that?” or “How does that even happen?”. There are golf shots known as a draw, fade, hook, slice, chunk, blade, shank or other comical nicknames that are used to describe the outcome of a stroke. Most amateurs do not realize what it is that causes the ball to fly the way that it does. Well, frankly there are many components that are in play when any golf ball is stricken. These factors range from topics such as club path, club head speed, attack angle, smash factor and other simple or analytical concepts. Being able to read a golf shot and
My whole life I've wanted to go to college and play golf for a Division 1 school. After my long and hard journey, I'm hoping to go to SFA this fall and play golf. I never realized when I first started playing golf that it would be this tough. It's been an emotional roller coaster for me and I can't wait to see what college golf has in store for me.
When my mom told me that my first game is soon, I was excited. The first and only position I played was right field. The ball did not go towards my direction often when I was on the field. I often watched my teammates chase after the ball that went to the other side of the field. I daydreamed about what I was going to eat after the game constantly when I was on the field. My mom always asked after the game why I was daydreaming. Batting was very difficult for me. It is very difficult to miss the baseball in tee ball. Unfortunately, I managed to make easy things look difficult. One swing changed my life forever. My team was down one run and I was the last person at bat. My coach was nervous because I managed to get two strikes. On the first swing, I missed everything but the air. Next, I hit the tee that held the ball. On the last attempt, I listened to my family's advice. I hit the ball all way to the fence and everyone cheered in excitement. I almost scored an inside the park homerun. The only reason I did not score is that I forgot that the tee covered home plate. I could not find the plate even though the crowd told me where to find it. Therefore, the catcher tagged me. On the bright side, I received two RBI's on one
It just always seemed like something that I had to do. Ever since I was ten years old I’ve been playing, practicing, and talking about golf. I always have had a love for the game, but I never really thought about how stressful and painful it made my life. Even at ten I thought my future had already been planned for me. I was already thinking of life as a professional golfer. I was certain that I would go play golf for a big college, and instant fame would soon follow. It wasn’t until the last couple of years that life has changed for me.
Finally, take a deep breath as you prepare to hit the golf
The pressure is on, I’m on the last hole and I must make this putt in order to win the match. I’m at Meadowlark Golf Club during the burning hot summer at the end of a huge golf match. I slowly walk to the ball my legs are sore, my arms are in pain, and i’m super scared. Everyone went silent and I could smell the grass around me. Clunk! I made the putt the won the match! Golf has been a great passion of mine for many years now and I believe it is a great sport to get into. One reason you can play it for your entire life!
I was first introduced to golf at 5 years old, at my grandparents’ house in the countryside. Being a kid didn’t make me like golf, mostly because I was stressed of repetitively seeing my grandma perfectly hitting all the shots. So I stopped playing golf until recently, and my dad signed up at a golf club, so I followed him and started to take lessons every day. The first lesson really represented a challenge, it came the time where I had to critically think and physically work in order to see if I like or dislike golf. As I was hitting the balls, one by one I felt the adrenaline coming into me, and every shot was getting better, I started liking it. A feeling of accomplishment was sliding in my veins. So the second lesson came, I was relieved
I had high expectations that year. Spending countless hours perfecting the art of hitting and crafting the best way to field, my expectations were to make the varsity team and get scholarship offers. I accomplished one of the two goals but felt that I didn't succeed. Struggling to find rhythm in my swing, I
