    On Friday, October twenty-second, Simi Valley High School had their fall concert, however, they only had two bands so there was not much to write about. The concert band opened up with, Apparitions, by Brian Balmages, which was a song with a very mysterious intro with the percussion. The song is later developed into a soprano winds melody which was very well balanced with its counter and support. Unfortunately before a very beautiful, yet eerie flute solo they were somewhat out of tune, and during it, the flutes were talking to each other. Later, the soprano melody turns into a brass dominated scene, with the trumpets being slightly too loud and overtaking the rest of the band. Overall, the piece was very well executed with great attacks, releases, and flow. However there was little to no vibrato in the song. After that song, The Magician's Secret, by Joseph Eidson was stated by a flute squeak, but evens out into a nice jumpy beginning. Throughout the many brass and high winds chords, they were mostly out of tune, but the pulsing and tempo was very well done and controlled which gave the theme of smoothness and elegance. While the band was going great with strong and obvious dynamics, one of the trumpets messed up and showed it. Luckily, a great story of adventure and curiosity manage to cover him up and retain the moving melody. As the song ended, I personally felt the end was a bit too staccato and the overall song had no

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is an important story as it has a meaningful theme of change, as the quotes states above. But that isn’t the only theme that this beautiful story shows us. Many different spirits encounter him to help him realize why Christmas is important (I’m pretty sure that is the meaning of the spirits). When the first spirit of the past encounters him, he realizes what he has done, and regrets some of the things he did. The second spirit helped Ebenezer Scrooge recognize how what he has been doing has had an impact in other peoples life. When the frightening third spirit came and showed him his future and others futures, he discovers about himself and how people didn’t care that he died. When we read A Christmas Carol, we learn that it can have many different themes that can be a very important component to the story and even our lives.

It is curious that as children, humans have the ability to observe and remember details of specific situations and instances yet lack the ability to describe them. Truman Capote, as a grown man, took advantage of his vivid memories and composed the short work, "A Christmas Memory." The story begins in late November, a month symbolic of all the years gone by that Capote could remember beginning preparations for Christmas fruitcakes.

Imagine a staged production of A Christmas Carol set in 1843. See the stage set in the exact time it was written by Charles Dickens. The foggy, crowded streets abuzz with carolers and shoppers, the children staring wide eyed into the shops and bakeries. Hear the bells ringing as a round of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” fills the gaslit streets with joy. As a child, going to see A Christmas Carol was one of my fondest Christmas memories. To witness Scrooge 's’ transformation from a mean, greedy old man to a joyous, loving benefactor always left me smiling and filled me with hope.

Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. I love seeing the shinny Christmas lights that decorates my street and the sound of fresh fallen snow on the ground. Christmas reminds me of family, the laughter and loved we shared, and the gifts we gave to each other. My house on Christmas became the center of my joy.

Somehow, no matter what we are facing we always seem to pull it together during the concert. I loved the 2 soloists in 1-2 and how much courage they had to give it their all even though it was their first time being in choir. Choir 3-4 always amazes me with their rich sound. They sound so sophisticated and mature. It was also interesting to hear them perform another rendition of a song we had sang last year. Also, the middle schoolers did wonderful with their carol of the bells. In terms of our set list, I would say Gborn was our best piece. I heard the most feedback from the audience about how that song was beautiful, angelic, and just rich overall. I think we could have worked on dynamics at times but it is definitely a song that should be taken to tour. My personal favorite was “Merry Christmas Mozart” because it showed the fun side of us and gave the audience some perspective. Plus, as I looked around during that song I saw nothing but smiles. The most touching part of the performance was when the alumni came on stage and sang “Carol of the Bells” with us. It brought back memories of them being with us. It also signified how much of a family we are even after we go to

I think Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays. Maybe because of the special atmosphere that you can feel everywhere, in shops, restaurants , pubs and even streets, where you can hear the magical carols, or maybe it's because of its religious background, but what I can tell you for sure is that I can't think of anything more exciting than the image of the entire family preparing the Christmas Tree or fixing the Christmas dishes.

Twas the night before Christmas, pale and yellow moonlight illuminated a house deep in the woods. Tall pine trees surrounded the house, like giants pointing at the inky black sky. Flurries of snowflakes swirled in a hurry around the house. The house stood alone and abandoned, adorned with Christmas lights, but not the ones you would see on any ordinary house. Some lights were fading, once bright and colorful but now a former shell of what they once been. Others burned out in a spark while the ones left were shattered. The front door was decorated with a rug that could be mistaken as an animal. The tree inside the house was not in the most pristine condition, either. The tree slumped in a dark corner. The top of the tree stretched out like bony fingers grasping at the air. The shiny, glinting ornaments that once fashioned the tree were now shattered. The wallpaper plastered to the wall was now peeling off, like it was rotting. The paint on anything on the house was now faded and chipping away. Stale air filled with dust occupied the house. The house was indeed creepy and not in the most pristine condition. Even more mysterious, the house would only ever appear on the night of Christmas Eve. Despite this, many local teenagers and explorers were drawn to the house. Anyone who was brave enough or dumb enough would enter and see the house in its deteriorated state.
