This season of softball is my second season of school softball. Last year was my very first season of softball ever in my life. Over the summer, I played summer softball in Morton,IL. There was only 2 teams total, us and one other team. That was the only team we played against over that amount of time in the summer. We ended up winning all but two games. Then there was the All-Star game were the 8 best people from both of the teams and formed one team and the people who didn't get picked, formed another team. I wasn't there for that game but my team won, and we were the ones with the better people. It was played at the Eastside Center in Peoria. It was really fun. Fun to play, fun to watch, fun to hit, fun to catch, fun to play! Unless you get hit, then you have the pain from where the ball hit. You know what they say, no pain no gain. The best part is hitting the ball, running to 1st, staying safe. When you hit the ball you get this oh-my-gosh-i-just-hit-the-ball feeling.
Olde Severna Park, Maryland, my bus comes to a halt, and gently veers into the collection of radiant green synthetic turf fields, and prestigiously constructed buildings which make up the Severn School campus. In the days since I was last here, so little has actually changed, but being in the upper school now, it seems to different. There are still the same deep red bricks, etched with names, forming the commemorative alumni walkway. There are still the same colossal 100 yard turf fields, lining the left side of the walkway, their radiating scent of sweat and plastic turf beads reminding me of all the good times that were had in my middle school days. On the other side of the Alumni Walkway, lay the magnificent Edward St. John athletic center,
57,308,738 square miles of land on earth and there is only one place, a small percentage of all that land, where I can be completely content. The grass reminds me of summer. The dirt reminds me of injuries and sweat. The softball field is one place I can go to at any point and time and find myself thinking much clearer. Ever since I was really young I have spent most of my time on a softball field, whether it was practice, games, or for personal gain. It seems as though it runs in my family, the diamond being a home away from home. The diamond gives me this sense of relaxation and security. Stepping on the field and realizing how much one person can learn in a matter of time makes me think how much I can learn about other things like engineering and medical
At a young age my dad realized I loved to throw the ball not a baseball in general. I would always find thick sticks with a strong core and hit rocks till sunset after school. With that being said, I also had a friend that played T-ball at Boykin Park. My dad thought it was a great idea to let me tryout. Not exactly tryouts honestly just showing up would have got me on the team. The park looked like was like nothing I have seen before. My dad met the coaches, and soon began to practice my swing. I played three seasons of T-Ball, because I was new to baseball and had to get my mechanics up. I started T-Ball in 1999 and ended it in 2002.
For as long as I can remember I've been out on the field with my cleats and glove. The diamond became my home and my team was my family. Every summer and weekend was filled with traveling and tournaments. Softball was my life, I couldn't imagine doing anything else. thats how I was up until the 7th grade. That was the first time i could every tryout for my middle school's softball team. I knew I had to make the team if I wanted to continue being serious about softball. The Team was made up of 7th and 8th graders which only made it harder to make the team because all the 7th graders who were on the team the year before had seniority and almost automatically had a spot on the team. I practiced harder than I ever had before the weeks leading up to tryouts just to make sure I was ready. Then, in the blink of an eye, tryouts were here. Everything I had worked so hard for was right in front of me and I was
There was cars passing by the trees outside of the metal chain link fence bases set up at every corner ,but it wasn't the happy feelgood setting, no it was the gloomy halloween setting this was my backyard on multiple very unfortunate days. The time I was playing baseball in
Ever since I was seven years old playing t-ball I dreamed of playing high school softball. Every year I waited not so patiently for the season to start. My junior year in high school I was the second basemen for my school softball team. That year my team and I
A young kid growing up with a burning desire to be a great ball player. My greatest love of things has always been baseball. Baseball taught me determination. Baseball taught me the greatness of having a hard work ethic. Discipline, manners, and staying positive all shaped from baseball. It is greater than just a game. Without baseball I don't believe I would be who I am today.
I started playing travel softball when I was twelve years old when a man I had known for several years named Byron asked me to play on his team. Travel ball requires you to have much more knowledge about the game in order to be successful. At this level, we had to begin to use signs while batting and other terminology while playing defense. Byron had been around the game of softball for years and had tons of knowledge to share with his players. For example, when we were working on defense at practice, Coach Byron would hold up a sign that would say something like “6-4-3.” All of the defenders on the field would have to know what that meant so they could execute the play. In this case, it meant we were supposed to turn a double play. It occurred
My First Time Playing Baseball Have you ever tried to remember the first time you did something? This is going to be a story about the first time I ever played baseball in a league. I was four years old when my mom tried to get me to play baseball, so
Softball (Pitching) in the Life of Dawson Softball was not a sport I grew up playing since the t-ball age like most people who are still in the game at my age group. It wasn't till after my grandfather passed away in 2009 that my mother suggested to me that I tried playing the sport that my grandfather had a love for. After him being on of my biggest role model in my life and largest influences on both mine and my brothers lives I didn't hesitate to try. After only one year of playing house league softball in Belleville my coach asked me to join a select softball team. Knowing that this team would not have a pitcher in this upcoming season I practiced with my dad at the pitching mound In our backyard. I quickly picked up on to the skills
As Babe Ruth once said, “Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.” Babe Ruth has given me inspiration to aspire my softball career. I play basketball because I just have a love and passion for the game. Nobody really inspired me to play I just picked up a ball one day and started shooting. I love outdoor sporting, and my stepbrother Brandon Mayhann, inspires me to pursue and enjoy outdoor sporting.
Freshman year, softball was not the greatest. More than half of the team did not know what they were doing and most did not take it seriously. Freshman softball for me was not going to cut it. I would come home upset and complain to my parents. That was when my dad told me I needed to work harder. I needed to push myself because I would only get out of it what I put into it. My dad believed in what I could do.
“Jack wake up tryouts for the gators are in 3 hours and you need to get ready.”My mom yells as I jump out of bed and get dressed.
when I played baseball I was so happy to play baseball because I love to hit things with a bat and I ask my dad if I could and then he was happy I wanted to play sports. When me and my dad went to sigh a paper my dad filled out my information my dad filled in the name box and the last name box then he filled out the age box. Then he had to bring me to practice at 3:30 to 4: 45 every day after school and I went to my coach he told me the basic have your foot that you don’t use and your strong arm back so you can hit the ball with the bat and use all you might get lucky and you can hit a home run. So it was our first game then I played at first base so when it was the other team their batter hit the ball the outfielder ran for the ball got
