Personal Narrative: My Growth As A Christian At Campbell University

In reading Bill Davis’ book, In All Things Christ Preeminent, it is evident that receiving an education at Covenant College will be a unique spiritual and intellectual experience. With Christ present in all areas of the school, the structure of the college and what it as an institution aspires to accomplish varies greatly from that of the high school I attended. Based on the Christ-like goals, student body, and instruction of Covenant College depicted in In All Things Christ Preeminent, receiving an education from Covenant seems vastly different from my secular experience at LaFayette High School.

Christendom College offers many compelling reasons that have increased my desire to attend this great school. Some of the things that I love about my high school are found at Christendom, such as its challenging, Classical curriculum. I simply loved the classes I was able to attend at the Summer Program and found that I felt at home in those lectures, which were deeply rooted in our Catholic faith. The lectures helped us examine their relevance in our own lives and encouraged us to always seek the truth. I observed that this inspired the whole class to consider the situations and messages in the themes we discuss in class, such as the value of friendship or how history shapes our identity.

The first goal I have is to understand the scriptures in the Bible and grow in my faith. When I started to look at colleges, I didn’t even think about attending a Christian college. I contacted a junior college in a nearby town to see what they had to offer me. By the grace of God, they recommend me to CCU. At the time that I enrolled, I didn’t realize that I would be required to take Bible classes. At first, I wondered

There are several things I hope to gain from my experience as a student at California Baptist University. Such things include, a community of God loving, supporting and encoring friends, a Christian based education and opportunities to grow into the person God created me to be.

The event or experience in my life that will influence my academic work and goals here at Colorado Christian University (CCU) is much more than a single event. I believe that everything in my life that has brought me to CCU to further my education and pursue God’s calling: helping people.

My personal faith grows daily by my choice to follow my love and savior, Jesus, every day I wake up. It was by no accident that God showed me Liberty University, and has now become a top option in my choices of colleges. I believe in the deep mission Liberty University has to develop Christ-centered believers because it is the same mission I strive to live out daily in my walk as a follower of Christ. My season of life will not always be the same as someone else's, but I pray that what I have walked through and what God taught me in those seasons can give perspective to others. Ever since I was six years old, the year I was baptized, I have been on fire for the Lord. I attended a Christian school for eight years and have always been very involved at my church. My first experience outside of my “Christian bubble” was when I went to a public high school. For the first time in my life, I was out of my comfort zone. Being at a public school challenged my faith, strengthened my leadership skills, and forced me to branch out and meet people I would have never encountered otherwise. However, even though being at a public school helped strengthen my faith in ways I would have never guessed, I believe attending a Christian university—like Liberty—is the best choice to further my education. I spent a year of college trying to be African. Afrobeats vibrated through the walls of Beets-Veenstra’s first floor dorm. My Christian college had an open-door policy. Walking past the ninth door on the left gave visitors an eyeful of my black hips swaying in circles as if an invisible hula-hoop entangled my waist. I had to get the moves I learned at the parties right. The beats were different from the hip hop music I regularly danced to. They were smooth tempos, but faster than reggae and bodies rocked with more control. My roommate complained about the hours I spent dancing in front of the mirror. We were not flat mates the next the year.

Dallas Baptist University has been at the top of my college enrollment list for quite some time. I fell in love with the campus after my visit in November of 2015. The chapel was the number one thing that caught my eye. The beauty and the structure was just breath taking. I could see myself attending the services and worshiping along with newly made friends. I have been in contact with a current student at DBU, and she has been very helpful in answering my questions and encouraging me to attend the college. There are many reason why i would love to go to DBU. First, the school is very diverse, and it will be nice to see so many different personalities and cultutes around the campus. Second,

My Christian liberal arts education is a major factor in establishing my current vocation. As a junior at Wheaton College, my current vocation is to be a student. I feel called to give my best effort at everything I do, and every assignment I work on. In reading C.S. Lewis’s essay on “Learning During War Time”, I was encouraged by his explanation of how the pursuit of knowledge, and my vocation of being a student, are worthwhile and valuable, no matter the circumstances surrounding us (Lewis, p.43-45). Through my experiences and achievements at California Baptist University, I can gain an academic advantage over my peers attending other schools. The amount of programs and majors offered at CBU will help me develop as an educated and experienced woman with a strong educational background at CBU. With the help of CBU, I can grow into my full potential and maintain a great headstart in entering the real world with a strong mentality of maturity. I have always maintained upstanding grades and high GPA in high school, and my attendance at CBU will merely continue my pattern of success.

I completed a summer Internship at Britton Christian Church. The Church is over Eighty years old, and is located in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. I discovered the availability of this internship through one of their new pastors Irvin Rodriguez. Over the past few years I had a growing interest in youth Ministry. My time at Dallas Christian College helped me to realize my passion for the youth. I then began to look for an internship position relating to youth Ministry.
